Hogwarts RPG Name: Cat Murtagh First | I love/hate PoA. I hate the fact that they messed with the story line so much and the scenery. But I also love the movie as a movie, it was good and not as little kidish as the first two. So I guess I give it 7/10. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Daphne Jones Fifth Year Ministry RPG Name:
Lola Adams Magical Law Enforcement | It seems that lately, many a number of people have been bashing PoA for the drastic changes, the cut scenes, the artsy direction. I remember after my first viewing, I hated it. All those things drove me nuts, I mean, how can you do PoA without the Mauraders! Blasphemy!
But then I saw it again, and I was able to let go of the changes, and what I enjoyed was a more mature Harry Potter, a movie that matched the tone of the book. Alfonzo Cuarón successfully captured the darker world in which dementors guarded Hogwarts and the effects of reliving your darkest moments. The previous two films were fun and adventurous, but the later books were darker, grittier, and Cuarón was the perfect director to take that on.
Notice that every film afterwards used his vision of the school, his robes, his grounds, his wands. He strived to make Hogwarts more real than fantastic. Sure it had the mystery and wonder, but it had a familiarity that grounded the events in the real world.
The picture also was a harsh reality that plots needed to be dropped. The books were getting longer, and longer, and somewhere things needed to be dropped. Sure many were angered, and upset, but more and more elements were cut in the later movies. The trimming needed to start somewhere, and unfortunately Cuarón had that burden on his shoulders.
So I give the movie a solid 8.5/10, it wasn't perfect, I did miss some elements, but I loved what the movie meant for the rest of the franchise. |

Hogwarts RPG Name: unsorted | Well I would only give it 3/10 because there were only 3 things I liked.
1) Harry's flight on Buckbeak, the scenery, the music and Harry's look of joy were wonderful
2) Remus Lupin- He was brilliant, the scene with Harry on the bridge, the Patronus lessons and the Boggart class were so good.
3) Aunt Marge and the scene with the Dursleys. That was well done.
I hated the Shrunken Heads, the Toad Choir, Ron being reduced to a pathetic, cowardly clown, Hermione stealing all the lines and the limelight, that fat kid with the stupid lines, all the parts that were cut and ESPECIALLY, that horrible Freeze Frame at the end! |
