Name: Zoë Wanamaker
Born: 13th May 1949
Where: New York, USA
Height: 5’3 (1.61m)
Although born in the US, Zoë and her family moved to London when she was just 3 years old. Her father Sam was an actor and director, and her mother Charlotte was an actress and radio star. Zoë decided at the age of ten that she would like to follow in their footsteps and become an actress, despite their objections. She also trained in dancing and attended art school, and even considered becoming a nun before she decided to seriously pursue acting.
Zoë attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London for 3 years before diving straight into theatre work in 1970. She established quite an impressive body of work, then also moved onto television and film work. She is probably best known for her role as Susan in the BBC series My Family, but we know her as Madam Hooch the flying Professor and Quidditch referee from the Philosopher’s Stone.
