Where: Birmingham, England
Height: 5’8”
Julie was born in Smethwick, Birmingham, and was the youngest of 3 children in an Irish catholic family. From a young age she knew she wanted to act, but her mother influenced her to go into Nursing. The feeling didn’t go away though, and eventually she joined a theatre group in Liverpool. Here she performed in many successful productions, and formed contacts with people she’d go on to work with again in future.
Julie began to perform widely on both the stage an on television. She played the starring role in a play called ‘Educating Rita’, which was later made into a hit film, for which she received an Oscar nomination. Later she went on to star in the dance film ‘Billy Elliot’, for which she received her second nomination.
Next came the first Potter movie, and she has continued to work extensively in between the filming of each one. We love her for her portrayal of Molly Weasley, just as she is on the page. Julie also found time to publish a book in honour of her daughter, who was diagnosed with Leukaemia at the age of 2, and to do widespread children’s charity work.
