Default Thewlis, David - Remus John Lupin
T l Guitar ♥ l l Bed Police l S

Born Blackpool, Lacashire, England, UK, on March 20, 1963, parents, Alec and Maureen, toy/wallpaper shop owners, welcomed their second of three children, David Wheeler (Thewlis is his mother’s maiden name). David originally came to London with his band Door 66, but changed his plan and studied in the Guildhall School of

Music and Drama and graduated in 1985. He did various performances in theater and minor roles in film (his first film was Mike Leigh’s Life is Sweet), but it wasn’t until 1993 that he got his first big break.

That break was with David’s performance as Johnny in Leigh’s Naked. The film was a success (winning The New York Critics Award) and so was David's performance - his screen behaviour in the film was praised and David got awards and nominations from the Cannes jury, The New York Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics.

Since then he’s been in various films, such as Restoration (1995), Total Eclipse (1995), Dragonheart (1996), Seven Years in Tibet (1997; which he was banned from China for his role), Besieged (1998), and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004), which he plays the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Remus Lupin. In 1995 he wrote and directed a short film called Hello, Hello, Hello. In 2003 he wrote and directed a film called Cheeky.

In addition to his film and television work, David has also starred in Sam Mendes' The Sea at the Royal National Theatre, Max Stafford-Clark's Ice Cream at the Royal Court, Buddy Holly at the Regal in Greenwich, Ruffian on the Stairs/The Woolley at Farnham and Lady and the Clarinet at the Kings Head.

In 1992, he was married to Sara Sugarman, however divorced in 1993. But, it wasn’t until 2001 when he found true love again, when David met Anna Friel years ago on a plane when they were both doing a push to help the British film industry round the world, along with Jude Law, Rachel Weisz and Emily Watson. They then re-met at a party and have been together ever since.

David and Anna were both seen in time-travel adventure, Timeline, in 2003. The happy couple lives together in Windsor and misses each other tremendously when being apart because of work. Their back garden, with signs that say "No Muggles Allowed" and "Quidditch Played Here," overlooks on to the Long Walk near the castle where the Queen often rides. At London’s Portland Hospital on July 9, 2005 Anna gave birth to their first daughter, Gracie Ellen Mary Friel, and weighed 7 lb. 4oz. Gracie's named after Gracie Fields and Anna's grandmothers.

David has also written a novel that was released in 2006. But we know him as the wolfish Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter series.
