Matthew Lewis, best known for playing Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies was born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, to Adrian and Lynda Lewis. He has two brothers, Christopher (who is a chief editor for a TV company) and Anthony (an actor).His mum Lynda is his PA and chaperone, and also a Magistrate (Justice of the Peace) in Leeds. He attends St Mary's Comprehensive School, Menston, and is currently studying for his A-Levels. He plans to take psychology, theology, law, and English language.
Matthew first started acting when he was 5 years old. It was in a TV drama called 'Some Kind of Life' which starred Jane Horrocks, in which he played her son Jonathan. He played minor roles in television programs and then tried out for the part of Neville Longbottom. At first, he did not care about what role he got in the Harry Potter films, but it was afterwards that he realized how much fun he could have with the role. He has been doing the role of Neville Longbottom for six years and has said multiple times that he would love to continue all the way to the end if they let him.

- He loves to read. Darren Shan & J K Rowling are his favourite authors.
- After reading the first Harry Potter book (this was before he actually landed up with the role of Neville), that he would dress up as Harry and run around his room
- He's into music and likes a like lots of bands such as Greenday, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes, The Killers, Guns n Roses, Velvet Revolver
- Football - both playing and watching. His favourite team is Leeds United (who got relegated from the premiership). He also likes watching Super League (rugby), his favourite team is Leeds Rhino's
- He also likes playing computer games on his PS2, his favourite games are Tiger Woods PGA Tour, FIFA Football, Pro Revolution Soccer, Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty
- His brother is Anthony Lewis who played Marc Reynolds in the soap Emmerdale
- In the break between filming the third and fourth instalments of Harry Potter in April 2004, he appeared as the special Harry Potter guest at the Armageddon Sci-Fi and Comics Convention in Auckland, New Zealand
