Full Name: John Vincent Hurt
Born: January 22nd, 1940
Where: Shirebrook, England
Height: 5' 9"
Being forced to move around until the age of 12 and forbidden to play with other children, John Hurt had a lonely early childhood. Nor did film play a part, not allowed to visit the local cinema, until he saw his first movie at age 8. He hated school, except for drama, and vividly still remembers the time he decided he wanted to act at just 9 years old. At 19, John won a scholarship to St. Martin’s in London. His parents didn’t like the idea of him acting, and instead forced him to train as a teacher. But he still had the desire to act.
He was lucky enough to win a Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts scholarship, staying there for 2 years. In 1962 he made his stage and screen debut. The following years he continued to develop his theatrical abilities, while occasionally taking on a cinematic role. He has now taken part in over 100 films. In the Harry Potter series he is known as Mr Ollivander, the wandmaker.
