Name: John Marwood Cleese
Date of Birth: 27th October 1939
Where: Weston-Mare, England
Height: 6’4 (1.95m)
John attended private schools from a young age, which is where he discovered and fine tuned his natural ability for comedy. He was often teased because of his height, having reached 6 feet by the age of 12. But he soon discovered that he could use humour to deflect the tirade. John also excelled in sports and his school work, but his real love was comedy.
His next destination was Cambridge University where he went to study law. However, he spent a great deal of his time performing with the school’s Footlights group in many different shows, often to great acclaim. Going on to write for the BBC and returning to the Cambridge shows, there he would meet future Monty Python actors Terry Gilliam and Graham Chapman.
After appearing in several more BBC and television productions, Monty Python was born. He appeared in the series for three seasons, but also participated for years to come to produce the Monty Python movies. John also replaced the legendary Desmond Llewelyn as Q in the James Bond movies. We know him best as the Gryffindor ghost Nearly Headless Nick.
