I've been posting these in my blog, one post a week, until DH comes out. Here's Philosopher's Stone :This is where it all began. Not even JK Rowling could’ve guessed what she had unleashed upon the world. A modern epic, along the lines of C.S. Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and countless other classic writers.
For me, it all began on 1999. I was around 8 years old. My mom had seen a TV interview with JK Rowling, and she became interested when it was said that these books got kids to read. So of course, she bought it. She gave it to me (that’s the second best thing she’s ever done for me; the first one is obvious) on a Saturday, and after breakfast, I sat down, and began to read.
I think I had read stuff before; books for young children, and such. But I wasn’t the avid reader I am now, and I certainly hadn’t read such a “long” book before. I began reading, and the first chapters were slow and kind of boring. But then the letters arrived, weird things kept happening, and… “You are a wizard, Harry” – Rubeus Hagrid.
I was hooked. I stayed in bed, reading the book for 7 hours straight until I was done. I was elated. I had never read anything like that: a book that engaged my mind, didn’t patronize me (being a “children’s book” and all), and kept me mystified.
Sure, it’s plot is simple compared to later books, but still…everyone was sure that Snape was the bad guy, and no one suspected Quirrel. But while re-reading, you notice all the clues that point to Quirrel. JK Rowling has always exceeded in foreshadowing, and building an intricate mystery.
And the world building….this books sets up an incredible world, one that she’ll fill in later. Sirius Black and Cornelius Fudge are mentioned (and both were set up quite nicely in this book; Hagrid places Sirius at the Potter house, and he mentions to Harry that Cornelius isn’t the man for the job, and asks Dumbledore for help every once in a while). Diagon Alley, Hogwarts, Quidditch… these are all wildly imaginative ideas.
Okay, this wasn’t exactly a review. I suppose, that it being the first book and all, I got carried away in remembrance. Next week it’ll be more about the story, I promise
Favorite quote: “But we’re not stupid – we know we’re called Gred and Forge.” – George Weasley
A little thing I’ll be doing each week. I’ll select my favorite quote from the book. Choosing one will take me longer than just writing the post, I think. But I chose this one, because it fits the tone of the book perfectly. It’s funny, and simple. An indication of a simpler time, one not riddled with deaths and wizarding wars. And today, 11 years after I first read it, it still makes me laugh every time.

I loved the part when Hagrid came to find Harry, from that point the rest of the book was brilliant.
I give it 8 out of 10.

Nice introduction.
My favourite part was when Hagrid came to get Harry and told him that he's a wizard.
After that, it became more interesting. |

I'd have to give it a 7.5/10.
Yes, it's not exactly a high rating but even though it is introducing the series and whatnot I just find it to be my least favorite book. Why? I'm not really sure. Probably because I found the book to not be as "action-packed" as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, I love the movie absolutely love it, but the book is just such a drag. BORING. But it's still amazing. It started the series off perfectly. Having Harry set that python on Dudley at the zoo..all the owls trying to give Harry his letter from Hogwarts...Having Hagrid show up at the cottege uncle veron took them to hide at..the troll.. the first quidditch match..
Amazing. Just not enough action for my liking. Still a great book though. =]

One of my favorite books! I probably have read it more than once, and have found it enchanting. It brings a new light into the story. Your introduced to the characters and everything. The Dursley's are cruel, but that's their nature.
As for the characters--Hermione was a bit bossy, Harry was just well...Harry. Ron was a goof. Neville you don't really hear much about. Draco-a character you love to hate. Snape-A character you just hate in the beginning but begin to love near the end. (Only a few I'm giving).

| Harry Potter and Sorcerers stone
My first time reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone the book had just come out and I couldn't read past the first chapter because I was young and it was pretty boring. Then a couple years later I picked up the third one and randomly started reading the third one and I loved it! I put the third one down and started from the beginning and I adored it. Now I am a complete Harry Potter freak and I love it!

I thought it was amazing, it took me about 4 days (nights) to read it all, hehe.
The start, was very good, she indroduced the characters really well, and I understood what was happening quickly. The middle and end, were both also amazing, they show how much though Jo had put into making it. Very nice.
I would give the book 9/10

I thought it was a fabulous start to the series and that J.K Rowling introduced all of the characters well. I give it a 10.10! |

I love love love this book it's the book that SPARKED the world of Harry Potter. I just started re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reading it again and I just can't stop laughing!!
Here's the highlights so far (referencing JK Rowling) Harry often said that Dudley looked like a pig in a wig.
...as much to Harry's surprise as anyone else's, there he was sitting on the chimney... Harry supposed that the wind must have caught him in mid-jump.
'Your new school uniform,' she said.
Harry looked in the bowl again.
'Oh,' he said. 'I didn't realise it had to be so wet.'
'Do you mean ter tell me,' he growled at the Dursleys, 'that this boy - this boy! - knows nothin' abot' - about ANYTHING?'
Harry thought this was going a bit fat. He had been to school, after all, and his marks weren't bad.
'I know some things,' he said. 'I can, you know, do maths and stuff.' |

When I first read it, I found it a little boring, but the bigger I became a HP fan the more I began to love it!
It's a nice read as it's the most simple in the series and it's also where it all started!

I absolutely loved it. The first book in a series that really made me start reading - I'd been reading for a long time, but this was the first series I really got into and thats all down to this book. It is fantastic, the whole discovery of the magical world, everything being so strange and unfamiliar and wonderful - I was there with Harry throughout his discovery of everything; spells, quidditch, all sorts. It was the book when everything was stunning and new, and that's the main part that made this book so lovable to me. Fantastic. <3 9/10 |

Review: Who could dislike the first book? This is the introduction to our world. Our first taste of magic happened right here. We are introduced to these wonderful characters and for the next six books, we watch them grow. It's such a beautiful process and it all starts here. The story itself is quite lovely. Ms. Rowling has quite the knack for weaving intricate storylines. This book really couldn't have gone any other way; it's a perfect start to the Potter world.

I loved it, yeah it started slowly, but it built up to something. And it was more fun and 'cute' in the beginning, so if you want something more light than the later books, you can read it again. 8/10.

It's a little bit boring for me, but maybe it's because I'm not in a good mood when I read this for the first time.
