When you first start reading it, it starts a little boring but then gradually it becomes more interesting as Harry's introduced to the Wizarding World. We find out the charcter's basic personalities, the book worm, the loving brave one, the original one and find out Harry's actions when he faces Voldemort. The main characters, Hogwarts, the wizarding world, the school mates. All this and more. A fine introduction to Harry Potter from JK Rowling.

Rating: 7/10.

Like my dog loving friend, I was completely, uh, O.O when I started reading this book. Wizards, witchs, muggles??? Even though it seemed interesting it was still all soaking in with me. Definantly not my favorite in the series but it was a very good start off in Harry Potter literature. J.K. Rowling has a very creative mind that is most poured out in this book.

I give it a 7 out of 10

I loved it.. But a part of me wished that Harry's cousin was a wizard.. And
he could have fit in perfectly in Slytherin..

We learned about wiches and wizards , I am soo happy Jo decided to write theses books...

I really liked Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone. It was easy to get into & didn't rush into things... which I think is perfect for the first book in a series. It was slow at first but I soon got used to it after reading.

This book came out when I was four and my sister was six. But my mum read it to us and apart from being such a young age and not really understanding most of it, i really enjoyed it.
A review from the age I am now after reading it quite a few times is:

I loved how JKR introduced the character to the world, she said on her website that she had written lots of different openings for the book, and found it hard to put everything in it yet concel so much at the same time. I think she did it very well.
I love how she gave Harry a lonley start, not a big celebrity childhood like he would have had. It sort of says that Harry always knew he was a little bit different but is shocked by how different he really is even in the wizarding world.
He shows all his talents in unecspected ways even for him and learns how much like his father he really is!

At the part where Hagrid comes the book is nothing but pure awsomeness.

P.S they said they tried to 'beat it out' 'it' being the magic....did Vernon (or/and) Petunia beat him or was it just Dudley who did?

I love this book so much! This book, and the fourth book, are my favorite books of the series. My favorite character in this book is Albus Dumbledore. I think this book is innocent enough so that I won't cry of sadness (like I did in the 7th book), but it has enough mystery, so I will want to read it again and again. This is the book I have read the most of the series, I think I read it 15 times. It is not as well-written as the 7th book, but somehow I like it more. My favorite parts are all the parts with Dumbledore and Fred & George.

PS was a bit slow to begin with, but after Hagrid's arrival it definately started to pick up. I loved the way Ron and Hermione were introduced and the fact that Harry and Ron didn't become friends with Hermione straight away, they had to prove they could be good friends to her. Fred and George were the best characters introduced, I fell in love with them straight away (Fred especially!)

It was a great start to a great series.

Yeah it was a bit slow and I sort of found the Dursleys mistreatment of Harry as a little over done -_-
But, it was a great introduction overall.
The new world and characters esp Fred, George and Peeves Loved how 'light hearted' it is compared to the other books.

7.5/10

The first boook for harry potter was the main reason why everyone got hooked and it has got to be as the original humor and danger was fully in this. It was also a good plot builder for what was going to happen in the later books and described thecharacters really well.

I give it an 8.5

This is the book that introduced me to the worderful world of HP so I love it! I love how it set things up for the future books - you could read as little or as much into the story as you wanted. I have course been back over this book (and all the others) many times with a fine toothcomb and I just love the way JKR ties everthing together, she is a genius.

This is the book that started Pottermania, which is why it is so beloved. It introduces us to Harry and his world with the Dursleys, and then to the Wizarding World. We go on that journey with him, and because we get to see everything he experiences through his eyes, we feel we are right there with him, experiencing his sorting, Hogwarts life, the classes, the charms, the friends (and enemies) he makes. We are Harry. Hermione and Ron are OUR best friends. WE took on that troll in the girls' bathroom. WE played Wizarding Chess with our lives. WE found the Philosopher's Stone in our pockets in the Mirror of Erised. WE thwarted Voldemort. We are witches and wizards in the world of Harry Potter.

The first book is the book which I'll never forget. It introduced me to the world of Harry Potter and make me sick about it. But I must say that it's not better than than the books 4,5,6 and 7, but i left in me a good impression. I will give it 7 of 10.

I thought the first book was really good.
I brought it in to school one day and started reading it and my mate also brought it in and we were instantly hooked and just kept on reading all of the books.
I also just bought the first one in German i hav'nt started it yet but it looks really good.

The beginning was a little slow but nessesary. We needed to know the background information before we got into the story. Now as I read it again and again and again, its not boring and I see the need for it. After I read the first couple informative chapters, I found gold!! It was an amazing magical adventure. You really can imagaine it as a real true world. I was in love and obsessed ever since.
