When you first start reading it, it starts a little boring but then gradually it becomes more interesting as Harry's introduced to the Wizarding World. We find out the charcter's basic personalities, the book worm, the loving brave one, the original one and find out Harry's actions when he faces Voldemort. The main characters, Hogwarts, the wizarding world, the school mates. All this and more. A fine introduction to Harry Potter from JK Rowling.

Rating: 7/10.

Like my dog loving friend, I was completely, uh, O.O when I started reading this book. Wizards, witchs, muggles??? Even though it seemed interesting it was still all soaking in with me. Definantly not my favorite in the series but it was a very good start off in Harry Potter literature. J.K. Rowling has a very creative mind that is most poured out in this book.

I give it a 7 out of 10

I loved it.. But a part of me wished that Harry's cousin was a wizard.. And
he could have fit in perfectly in Slytherin..

We learned about wiches and wizards , I am soo happy Jo decided to write theses books...

I really liked Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone. It was easy to get into & didn't rush into things... which I think is perfect for the first book in a series. It was slow at first but I soon got used to it after reading.

This book came out when I was four and my sister was six. But my mum read it to us and apart from being such a young age and not really understanding most of it, i really enjoyed it.
A review from the age I am now after reading it quite a few times is:

I loved how JKR introduced the character to the world, she said on her website that she had written lots of different openings for the book, and found it hard to put everything in it yet concel so much at the same time. I think she did it very well.
I love how she gave Harry a lonley start, not a big celebrity childhood like he would have had. It sort of says that Harry always knew he was a little bit different but is shocked by how different he really is even in the wizarding world.
He shows all his talents in unecspected ways even for him and learns how much like his father he really is!

At the part where Hagrid comes the book is nothing but pure awsomeness.

P.S they said they tried to 'beat it out' 'it' being the magic....did Vernon (or/and) Petunia beat him or was it just Dudley who did?

I love this book so much! This book, and the fourth book, are my favorite books of the series. My favorite character in this book is Albus Dumbledore. I think this book is innocent enough so that I won't cry of sadness (like I did in the 7th book), but it has enough mystery, so I will want to read it again and again. This is the book I have read the most of the series, I think I read it 15 times. It is not as well-written as the 7th book, but somehow I like it more. My favorite parts are all the parts with Dumbledore and Fred & George.

PS was a bit slow to begin with, but after Hagrid's arrival it definately started to pick up. I loved the way Ron and Hermione were introduced and the fact that Harry and Ron didn't become friends with Hermione straight away, they had to prove they could be good friends to her. Fred and George were the best characters introduced, I fell in love with them straight away (Fred especially!)

It was a great start to a great series.
