Well what can I say? This book reminded me unpleasantly of GOF. What I mean is that it seemed more of a precurser, a prelude, a background, and especially a means to setup book 7. It seemed the mere purpose of HBP was to prepare us for book 7. So to me is seemed a little dry, but I thought the same for GOF and then I absolutely loved OOTP so I say that book 7 will probably be the best book. Now getting on to more of the reason it didn't wet my whistle. Well it seemed a bit choppy and bounced around a little much. Also it seemed to cut out life at Hogwarts almost altogether. Also it seemed that Rowling lingered a little too long on certain areas and didn't cover areas I thought she should have. I wonder if she felt rushed or simply had too much information to begin with. I personally believe that Book 7 will be much better. I guess I better reread the book maybe I will get more out of it the second time around. But it seemed that too much time was wasted with the incessant snogging and bickering between Hermione and Ron. The best part of the book in my opinion would have to be the quidditich match where Luna was commentating. Honestly the book only had glimpses of the usually humor. I get that it is suppose to be darker but it also seemed that some humor was inapporiate and inserted at akward moments.

Thinking back on high school and all a light bulb went off in my head. I know we are being a little harsh on Rowling for the snogging in the book but thinking back I must say that did seem the priority on most of the 16 yr olds. So truthfully now that I think of it, it isn't so much of a surprise. The part that gets me the most is that Voldermort is KNOWN to be alive and his death eaters are KILLING people and yet the students act as if everything is normal and nothing is going on around them. Odd that she does it that way. You know she did complain about not being able to write in the coffee shops anymore so people leave her alone and let her write in a coffee shop please... the books are better that way.

yeah i agree with that. Malfoy didnt appear much, like he used to & teasing the first or second year students..

i still dont understand how come Snape is the Half-blood prince?? because Harry first thought maybe it was his father but he checked the year of that potions book & it couldnt have been the year his father was at Hogwarts.. so how come it's Spane? O_o

Of the six books, I'd rate this one as my third-favorite. My official list goes: 3, 5, 6, 4, 2, 1.

I did not think that either of the first two chapters needed to be so long. I understood that they were meant to catch us up on what's been going on, and in the case of the second one in particular, to set several things in motion. However, in general they should have been liberally trimmed.

Everything after that was quite the right length, I thought. I like how even though the books are getting darker, J.K. still puts in the little details - like Ron and Lavender, Harry and Ginny, and little things she knows will be amusing and fun before we have to delve into the real dark stuff.

As for who dies, well... I must say you can see it coming, and even though I got spoiled (ugh...) you still hope beyond hope it's not true.

It's far darker even than Order, but I felt that Order's sub-plots were more interesting, and the final show-down more dramatic. In a way, the death in this book is less painful, but I can't explain why.

I cried, I laughed... and I gasped audibly when I found out Voldemort was behind the curse of the Defense Against the Dark Arts post. It gave me chills, and I think it's because that was such a small thing people would throw out there - "Oh, it's cursed" but you never paid attention. It's those things that are really rewarding in her writing.

So overall I'd give it 4 and three-quarter stars out of five, only because I was bored by the first two chapters.

First I want to say that The Half Blood Prince was and is the most amazing book ever...J.K.Rowling really worked hard on this....Some of it was pretty predictable....like with Dumbledore...and Ron and Hermione...which i loved!.....and with Harry and Ginny..it's kinda like Lily and James..I mean she's a redhead and well Harry's like james....let's hope history repeats its self....Snape really got me.....I disagree...it was very well written..the best in the series so far... I still cannot get enough of it..I've already read it 3 times

Is it? I thought all the dak stuff was suddenly "light" in weight. Mind, the last chapters would tel you otherwise, like the way DD entered the cave with his blood and that whole scene. But it looked less because, as asley_marie said, everything was put second to snogging and as if there was nothing important going on with people dying and such. People kept leaving "undisturbed" despite people dying next door, and even happy O_o I know we tend to go in denial, we humans, in such situation but this was a bit too much.
I mean... The were living with the person (Harry) Voldy wants most dead!

We obviously don't agree much, Lilyevans The first two were the ones I most liked next to the last chapters and climax^^

You know what this book most remineded me of a fanfic? That when I finished reading it I felt like writing a fanfic myself It never happens unless I read another ff and I get competitive, lol!

I read the Half-blood Prince in two days time. I thought the book was very great. It not meant for anyone age of 12 to read because they wouldn't stand it. J.K. Rowling uses the S word to decribe Voldemort's mother, Merope and uses snogging and death of beloved character, which I am not tell who. The betrayal of trust in which causes Harry and his friends to have fight death eaters. Harry has lessons with Dumbledore about Voldemort's past to find out how to defeat him.
I am older than 12 understand the book. You got re-read it like to understand it. I re-read it.

the edge of all the edges... the plot was dark and dangerous and light and warm at the same time... i just can't bear to think that dumbledore was gone... the OotP will deal with alot of stuff on the seventh book... i just wish that Harry will be alive with Ginny...

Harry didn't know how to figure out the identity of the HBP. Hermione told him to check the dat as that might give him a clue. The copyright was 50 years old, but that only tells us that the book was written that lang ago, since it is still in use it is obviously a lasting tome. Hence, Snape used it when he was in school and Harry was still using it today.

I am well unsure of how I feel about HBP. I mean I love all the books but I just don't like the way things worked out. I just am very upset with the whole Snape/Dumbledore situation. I can't believe it happened. This book was very well written though. I mean the characters emotions were explored more. The feelings were very accurate for the ages also. I do still love Jo but I guess I am just still in shock. I don't believe this will be my favorite book. I am left with more questions then answers and I hope book 7 has some sort of explaination.

I loved this book, it makes me want to investigate even more into past books to get any more clues about the characters. And some I may have come to hate even more then i did during OotP. Thanks J.K. I will patiently await your next book. Time=perfection!!

Alright, my post is going to be short because, well, I don't want to write alot.

Anyway. This book gave me the impression that it was just written to explain everything else. Which is probably why it was writting, anyways. But this wasn't my favorite book. I'm going to have to say my favorite book was the fifth book. Why?

H
mm. Well, all the Half-Blood Prince did was talk and talk. The only real exciting part was Dumbledore dying and the dead people rising up out of the water. Not to mention I already got bored at the first chapter.

This is my opinion, but I guess I like her books to have more adventures -- more interesting things to happen.

It was kind of strange to see that Snape was the H.B.P. x.x; It kind of was disappointing because Snape isn't my favorite character and I didn't expect it. I thought it was going to be someone else - a student, perhaps. I don't know, but I just didn't like the idea that Snape was the H.B.P.

Even though this book was writtin fabulously, I'd have to give it 6-7/10.

I finished HPB in about 4 days...and I loved it. I think it's ONE of the best books out of the series. Anyways, the ending was kind of predictable but I was still saddended. I actually cried. For some reason. Anyways, I am eargerly anticipating for the 7th book.

Also, I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I think Tom Riddle seemed like a nice kid. But his result is kind of like Anakin Skywalker. If you know what I mean.

hbp is my favourtite from the series.
i love how it leaves so much for the next book, like how harry said he wouldnt go back to hogwarts but visit godrics hollow, and how draco might appear in the next book. it leaves a lot of questions and curiousity towards the last book.
but i didnt like how dumbledore died becuz now harry is going to have to do most of the work on his own.

(review partly from my LJ )

I don't think HBP was my favourite. PoA still remains my absolutely favourite book, and then is OotP and then HBP, I think. I have a feeling that there's many things missing in HBP. I know that maybe Jo wants to explain them in Book 7, but... there's so many things! I hoped we'd find out something about Lily Potter, her eyes, her wand about Marauders, about Sirius's death, DoM, Hagrid's bike, Lupin's past... And we just found out many interesting things about Voldemort, that's all.

I really hoped that Remus will be someone more important for Harry. I thought they'll talk with each other, write letters... I even thought Remus will tell Harry something about Marauders, about his own past... maybe about romance or something... He didn't appear as often as I wanted him to. And Harry didn't start to call him 'Remus'... I was really disappointed in that. I really was.

When I was reading the book, I had a feeling that there's too much Dumbledore. Harry meets with him before school, then they have private meetings, then they go to search the Horcrux... I thought I won't be so sorry when he's dead. Anyway, not so sorry as I was when Sirius died, I was almost crying then. But his funeral was very sad... I was a bit curious how it'd like in wizarding world. Quite interesting. I didn't cry, but I was sad. And I think that Book7 will be really different...

Well, Book 6 was different too. I often had a feeling that I'm reading some fan fiction, not real book by JK Rowling. Some events were unbelievable, really untypical.

I knew that Draco will be a Death Eater. I knew it's really possible. Anyway, there's something about him we didn't know earlier. He wants people to find him brave and fearless... but when he was about to kill Dumbledore, he wasn't able to. He was too weak. I think that Jo has got some further plans connected with him...

And Snape. That... that... how to call him now? I've been always wondering how people can love him so much. I mean, he's very interesting character anyway, he was dark and he had mysterious past... But how could he kill Dumbledore?! I'm still confused, I don't know if he's completely on the Dark Side or not... I feel really angry at him. And he's that Half-Blood Prince! Honestly, I thought that all that stuff will be something different... more important. Not just an old book with spells and hints, which belonged to Snape. I'm not glad about that, though after about half of the book read, I started to suspect him.

Okay, let's try to find some brighter sides... Romance. It was surprisingly subtle and good. I mean, Ron and Hermione aren't officially together, but I'm sure they will. And it doesn't annoy me any more. I dunno... Jo's described it in a way I really like. Poor Ron... he was going out with Lavender (silly girl) only because he had nothing to snog with. And this Harry/Ginny relationship... I didn't love it, but it was quite good. Although Harry said in the end he can't be with her any more... Oh. Should expect it.

Guess what makes me happy? *giggles* Yeah, Remus is with Tonks, Remus is with Tonks! *starts to dance* Jo's done it, I couldn't believe at first! And that scene, when Tonks started to explain, that she doesn't care he's a werewolf, and all... how sweet it was! And then, there was a sentence, that she was holding his hand at Dumbledore's funeral... Yay! So there's hope that beloved Remus will not be so lonely! It's sooo perfect!!!

I really like Harry in Book6. Not that nervous, irritating teenager like he was in Book 5. I was afraid of how he'll act after Sirius' death. And he was surprisingly calm and wise... Great!

Anyway... good book, but not the best.

Unhappy Here are my Final Thoughts.

i was totally freaked out in total shock
that dumbledore was killed by snape!

I didn't want tom read the book any further !!!
J.k Rowling how could she do that to us?
First Sirius and then Dumbledore!
Now it really seems as if Harry is alone.
The thought makes me feel so terribly sorry for him!

@ first i really liked the Harry& Ginny thing. Its normal there sixteen. But that was not the way i wanted them to breakup!
Because of Voldemort!

I also felt so sorry for malfoy! He is probably going to get killed!

one thing i liked about the book was all the detail on voldemorts past thats wat kept me at edge...

the book was ok because it made me feel sad! I wanted to burst in tears when Dumbledore died and @ the last chapter!
when harry said he was alone..and it really hit him that Dumbledore was dead!
I felt really sorry for harry! more than ever before!

And wat about hogwarts will it close??
I think j.k. tried to show us that Dumbledore like any other
human made mistakes..

one more thing was Snape being the Half Blood Prince!

CANT WAIT TILL THE 7TH BOOK!HURRY J.K.
WAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE WIZARDING WORLD?

Unhappy One More Thing...

Another Thing Was The Song Of The Phoenix! I Really Hope Harry And Dumbledore Can Still Communicate Through Dumbledore's Portrait!

In My Opinion This Was The Sadest Book Out Of All!

Im Going To Miss Dumbledore!

I HOPE THE 7TH BOOK WONT BE LIKE THIS BUT THEN AGAIN IT MIGHT BE WITH HARRY HAVING TO LOOK FOR ALL THE HORCRUX WITH RON AND HERMIONE...

OMG, the first few chapters( precisley before the last 4 chapters) were very nice, a lot of romance and funny parts. I really liked the way Ron and Hermione were fighting bec it really showed that they love each other, and the Harry/Ginny was also very nice. It was my best book in the series untill DD death came. I cried so hard I think that i emptied all the water in my body(lol). Then came the part where Harry breaks up with Ginny i was devasted, i changed my mind about HBP being my best book in the series.

However we learned a lot about Voldemorts past and stuff like that but i really wished JK would write more unanswered questions like the veil and stuff like that.
Anyway it was good.

The book was a complete winner!!!! I loved it but it had some faults. Like when Mrs weasley gets to know that --- died, she doesn't seem to care at all. Plus, when --- was wandless, couldn't he perform a nonverbal spell and get his wand back??? Still, I loved it and wonder where the other horcruxes are! Plus I like the H/G ship. Isn't it great that J.K manages to keep the tone of the dark but still humours on the sides? Hats off to Rowling!!!

i guess that in a book where u need to squeeze in so much information and to build up developments for the last book, u won't have much space to fill in with mundane stuff like romance and classes. however this book gave me a feel as if anything that should have been said was said. afterall, this is the 2nd last book and there won't be much chances to save any info for more books to come. knowing jk's style, these information have hidden meanings and will play very great roles in the last book ie. Hagrid's tamed brother Grawp.onto relationships, the most impt ones are mentioned...like ginny and harry with their short romance. it achieved its goal--to bring a tinge of sadness yet alot strength in the characters, that they are able to let go of each other for a greater cause..sacrifice..i also admire fleur alot for being able to stick to bill even though he's been disfigured..she's not as shallow as everyone tot. like mc gonagall said, its nice to know that there's still some love in this world.
