c900 AD - Earliest possible date for founding of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin

1269 - Golden Snidgets become part of Quidditch, after Chief of the Wizards’ Council Barberus Bragge brings one to a Quidditch match. He offers one hundred fifty Galleons to the player who catches it during the course of the game. The bird is saved by Modesty Rabnot.

1974 - James, Sirius and Peter become Animagi after three years of work. They begin keeping Remus company during the full moon. Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black and James Potter become the Marauders. They explore the castle and grounds in their animal forms. They create the Marauders’ Map, signing it with their nicknames: Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs.

1976 – Percy Weasley is born

- Cedric Diggory is born

1978 - Lily, James, Sirius, Remus, Peter, and Severus graduate Hogwarts

July 23rd - Mrs Dursley takes Dudley to get his Smeltings uniform
24-30th - Letters begin arriving via owl post, inviting Harry to attend Hogwarts
31st - Just after midnight, Rubeus Hagrid rescues Harry from the Dursleys in the Hut on the Rock.
- Harry and Hagrid visit Diagon Alley

August - Percy Weasley gives his pet rat, Scabbers, to his younger brother Ron

September 1st - Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy start their first year at Hogwarts
- Dudley Dursley undergoes surgery for the removal of a pig’s tail
12th - Gryffindor and Slytherin first years have their first flying lesson
- Harry is made a Seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team

October 31st - The Halloween Feast is interrupted by a Mountain Troll which almost kills Hermione Granger. She is saved by Harry and Ron and the three become friends

November 9th - Gryffindor defeat Slytherin at Quidditch

December 25th - Harry discovers the Mirror of Erised and sees his parents for the first time

1992

May - Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback hatches. Charlie’s friends take Norbert from Harry and Hermione on top of the tallest tower

June 4th - Harry, Hermione and Ron follow Quirrell and, overcoming the various protections, defeat Quirrell/Voldemort’s attempt to steal the Philosopher’s Stone

June 8th - End of Term Feast. Gryffindor win the House Cup

July 31st - Dobby the house elf visits Harry in Privet Drive; the dinner party that the Dursley’s are throwing for the Masons is disrupted by a flying whipped cream and sugared violets pudding

August - Ron arrives at the Dursleys in a flying car to rescue Harry
19th - Harry ends up in Borgin and Burkes by accident
– Ginny gets the diary

September 1st - Harry and Ron miss the Hogwarts Express and fly Mr Weasley’s bewitched car to Hogwarts, crashing it into the Whomping Willow
- Harry and his friends start their second year at Hogwarts
- Ginny Weasley and Colin Creevey start their first year
- Gilderoy Lockhart is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts

October 31st - 500th Deathday Party for Nearly Headless Nick
- The Basilisk from the Chamber of Secrets attacks its first victim; Filch’s cat, Mrs Norris

November 8th - Colin Creevey is petrified by the Basilisk

December 10th - Hermione steals potion ingredients from Snape
17th - Harry speaks Parseltongue in the Duelling Club
18th - Justin Finch-Fletchly and Nearly Headless Nick are petrified
25th - Harry and Ron use Polyjuice Potion to take the forms of Crabbe and Goyle and learn that, despite their suspicions, Draco Malfoy is NOT the Heir of Slytherin. Meanwhile, Hermione is a victim of incomplete transfiguration and has to stay in the Hospital Wing for several weeks

February 14th - Harry discovers how to unlock the secrets of Tom Riddle’s Diary

May 8th - Hermione Granger and Penelope Clearwater are petrified and the Hogwarts Quidditch Cup is cancelled
- Dumbledore is removed as headmaster of Hogwarts and Hagrid is sent to Azkaban
24th - Harry and Ron follow a trail of spiders into the Forbidden Forest where they encounter Aragog. They are rescued by Mr Weasley’s car
29th - Ginny Weasley is abducted and taken into the Chamber of Secrets. Aided by Fawkes, Harry defeats the spirit-form of Lord Voldemort in the Chamber of Secrets
30th - Hagrid and Dumbledore are re-instated at Hogwarts. Dobby the House Elf is freed from service to the Malfoy family and Lucius Malfoy is sacked from the board of Governors

Early July - Arthur Weasley wins 700 Galleons in the annual Daily Prophet draw. They Weasley family spends a month in Egypt, visiting Bill
- The Granger family vacations in France
- Sirius Black escapes from Azkaban

July 31st - Aunt Marge comes for a visit to the Dursley’s

August 7th - On the last day of Aunt Marge’s visit, Harry “blows her up” and runs away. The Knight Bus picks him up in Magnolia Crescent and drops him off at the Leaky Cauldron. Harry spends the rest of the month in Diagon Alley, where he admires the new Firebolt broomstick on display in his favourite shop, Quality Quidditch Supplies.

August 31st - Harry meets Hermione and Ron in Diagon Alley. They are all staying at the Leaky Cauldron Hermione buys Crookshanks

September 1st - Harry and his friends begin their third year at Hogwarts, which is now surrounded by Dementors as protection against Sirius Black
- Remus Lupin is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts
2nd - Malfoy is injured by Buckbeak
9th - DADA lesson with Boggarts

October 31st - The fat lady is slashed by Sirius Black

November 6th - For the first time, Harry is on the losing side in a Quidditch game. The Dementors cause him to fall and his broomstick is shattered when it crashes into the Whomping Willow
8th - Lupin agrees to give Harry Dementor lessons
18th - Harry is given the Marauder's Map
19th - Hagrid receives a letter saying Buckbeak has a hearing

December 25th - Harry receives a Firebolt Broomstick but Professor McGonagall insists on having it stripped down to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with

1994

January 6th - Lupin begins teaching Harry the Patronus Charm

February 3rd - Ron finds Scabbers missing and blames Hermione
8th - Harry, Ron and Hermione visit a distraught Hagrid
12th - Hagrid learns Buckbeak is to be executed

April 20th - Following the attack on Draco Malfoy, The Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures considers the fate of the hippogriff Buckbeak

May - Gryffindor defeats Slytherin to win the Quidditch Cup

June 6th - Buckbeak is scheduled to be executed at sundown. Peter Pettigrew, disguised as Scabbers the rat, is cornered and revealed. He escapes and spends the next months searching for Lord Voldemort in Albania.
- Sirius Black is captured that evening and narrowly escapes suffering the Dementor’s Kiss by riding to freedom on Buckbeak

July - Bertha Jorkins encounters Pettigrew and Voldemort in Albania and is killed

August 20th - Frank Bryce is killed after discovering that Voldemort and Wormtail have taken up residence in the old Riddle House
22nd - Harry and Hermione arrive with The Weasley’s at the campsite for the final of the 422nd World Quidditch Cup. Ireland beats Bulgaria, 170 to 160
- Harry’s wand is stolen. That night the camp is besieged by Death Eaters
- Bartemius Crouch fires his house elf, Winky, after she is found holding the wand which had been used to cast a Dark Mark spell

September 1st - Harry and his friend start their fourth year at Hogwarts
- Alastor 'Mad-eye' Moody is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor
4th - First DADA lesson, they study the Unforgivable Curses

October 30th - Delegations from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons arrive at Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament
31st - The Goblet of Fire selects the champions for the Tournament

November 13th - Harry is interviewed by Rita Skeeter
22nd - Dumbledore gives Dobby and Winky work at Hogwarts
- Harry speaks to Sirius
24th - First Task of the Triwizard Tournament

December 18th - Harry asks Cho to the Yule Ball
25th - The Yule Ball

1995

February 24th - Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament

June 24th - Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament
- Voldemort kidnaps Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory. Cedric is killed by Pettigrew
- Flesh, blood and bone combine as Voldemort is restored to his body in an ancient ceremony
- Voldemort and Harry duel and Harry manages to escape with Cedric’s body
- Cornelius Fudge refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned and falls out with Dumbledore

July 1st - Harry gives his winnings to Fred and George so that they can open a joke shop after graduation

31st – Hermione and Ron learn that they are prefects

September 1st – First day back at school, Harry meets Luna Lovegood and discovers he can see Thestrals
- Professor Umbridge is the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor
3rd – Harry’s first detention with Umbridge
6th – Gryffindor Quidditch trial, Ron Weasley is made keeper

1996

February 14th – Harry has his first date with Cho
- He is also interviewed by Rita Skeeter for the Quibbler

June – Gryffindor wins the Quidditch cup
- The battle at the Ministry happens, Sirius is killed
- Harry hears the Prophecy
