The impartial judge that selects the champions are the Goblet of Fire. If you add your name there is no turning back, because it binds a magical contract.
The whole school is interested in who are submitting their names. Fred and George try to get past the age line, but fail; they get thrown out of the sircle and grow beards.
Harry, Ron and Hermione spends the day at Hagrid's and they notice that he is dressing up for someone: Madame Maxime.
The halowe'en feast goes very slow and everyone is waiting for the champions to be chosen. The Goblet of Fire decides thus: Viktor Krum from Durmstrang, a beautiful girl by the name of Fleur Delacour (that Ron has got a crush on) for Beauxbatons and Cedric Diggory a Hufflepuff student for Hogwarts. When everyone thinks the selecting part is over a fourth piece of parchemt fly out of the fire, bearing the name 'Harry Potter'. |

A bit dull and slow chapter, but very interesting. Rita Skeeter comes inside the schoolgrounds and arrange to interview Hagrid. Harry can't warn Hagrid about her without her noticing.
Also Hermione is still up to the S.P.E.W. and gets into the kitchens. She drags Ron and Harry along to show them Dobby and Winky. Dobby talks about how life has been since he was freed and so on. The other house elves does not like it, and Winky things he should be ashamed. Hermione hates to see the house-elves so helpful. |
