"The Insane Keeps Us Sane" by narglesRnifty
Radish earrings, moppy hair
Bulging eyeballs that like to stare

Quibbler quiz upside-down
Laughter that turns heads ’round

Lion hat with roar included
The one who’s always been excluded

Nargles in the mistletoe
Behind the ear the wand goes

Her mother passed when she was young
Yet, “Weasley is Our King” she likes to hum

Our lovely Luna, please don’t change
Your humor’s priceless and keeps us sane

~Second Place~
Luna Lovegood: An epic poem by OtterySt.Catchpole
Luna, Luna you're better than tuna,
I'm not just saying that because it's funny,
you don't know how hard it is to try to rhyme with tuna, Luna,
Your dispositions, not exactly sunny,
but you know when you find something funny.

Luna Lovegood, you're brave and you're daring,
not just odd, with your lion hat blaring.
You don't care what people say, and keep on doing it anyway,
and that to me is bravery anyday.

You don't hold a grudge,
against people who don't budge,
like Hermione know-it-all,
though she's not so bad, when you know her all.

You've got great tastes in boys,
loving Ron, there's a good choice.
And Friending Harry,
when everyone thinks he's sort of scary.

Luna, I'd soonah see you with Neville,
than with Draco that devil,
but whoever you marry,
it better not be Harry!

Luna, you're pretty, and smart,
and when the final fight starts,
I'm sure you'll kick butt, with those spells and magic arts.

Luna we love you,
you'll make us all proud,
see you with Draco at the wedding,
don't let him get too loud!

~Third Place~
"The Real 'Loony" by halfbloodprincess92

Luna reads the Quibbler upside down 'cause it's word is law.
Unlike some, she's a smart witch 'cause she is a 'Claw.
Never does she leave without her cork necklace on 'cause that's her style.
And she commentates quidditch every once in a while.
Listening to Trelawney is something she will do.
Only she saw Threstrals since her first year at Hogwarts, too.
Violence is only used when she fights for her friends.
Even though she knows the facts, her dreamy thoughts never end.
Going to Slughorn's party was a Nargle-sized surprise to her.
Opportunities to search for Crumple Horned Snorcacks arise her
Open thoughts about that magical creature she wants to see.
Deep behind her dreamy blue eyes lies the real 'Loony'.

The First Luna Lovegood Writing Competition

Section A- Luna the early years

Winner- Snurfuffles and Safe Places By Cheeky_weasley

Snurfuffles and Safe Places

The dust dances like faeries in the beams of sunlight making its way under the bed, peeking under the valance. 10 year old Luna Lovegood is under the bed, humming a tune for the faeries to dance to. Every exhale sends them in giddy circles as Luna watches happily. Under her bed was her safe place, a place to hide from the world when she wants to be alone, or in the company of the dust faeries and bunnies. Luna’s mother had died half a year ago and now Luna visits this safe place more than ever. Not a day goes by when she doesn’t push her toys aside and climbs under to stare at the beams of her bed or the grain of the wooden floor, all the while thinking. She knows her mother is gone, that she won’t come back, but it’s not like she won’t see her again. Luna pulls out a picture from between one of the beams and her mattress. A beautiful young witch with large blue eyes and an intense stare smiles happily down at Luna, tucking a rogue strand of blonde hair behind her ear every so often. She is holding hands with a tall pale man with an onion looking bulb pinned to his hat. Luna’s parents. Luna can stay under that bed forever staring at her mother, wishing for it to be the real thing, missing her. But you can’t stay under a bed forever. And anyway, Luna is sure the faeries would tire of her company soon or run away home when the sun goes away.

It had been a few hours (or a few days. Luna didn’t really know. Or notice) when a smiling face lifted up the valance to seek the little blonde dreamer hiding there. She loved when her dad did that and, even though she knew it was coming, each time would surprise her.

“The sun is getting ready to set my little Snurfuffle. It’s time for tea.”

He always called Luna his little Snurfuffle (which, of course, is a fluffy yellow creature that, when it touches you, makes you feel all warm and happy, like lying in a field of daisies in the summer midday sunshine). To him Luna was his Snurfuffle, and he hers. He noticed the photo in his daughter’s hand and shuffled under the bed too. He only managed to get his head and shoulders in.

“You miss her. I miss her too.”

Smiling and turning to face her dad, Luna whispers “We’ll miss her together.”

He hugs his little Snurfuffle and pulls her out from under the bed. It really was time for tea.

~*~

Luna smiles to herself as she sits alone under a table in the Hogwarts library’s Herbology section. Hiding is still her safe place and being 15 doesn’t change that. Those memories are her most favourite. She can recall every twist in the wooden floor’s grain, the way the faeries pranced as she hummed and every detail of her mother’s face. During the school year the picture lives between the headboard and mattress of her bed in her Ravenclaw dormitory. She still stares at it and wishes her mum goodnight but she doesn’t hide as often. She does miss the surprise when her father comes to find her. She does miss her father just as much as she misses her mother. Hogwarts can be cold and lonely, especially without any friends. But Luna is strong. If ever she is sad, Luna remembers her most cherished memory and smiles.

She has heard whispering and teasing when she suddenly smiles to herself in the middle of class or in the halls. She doesn’t care. Not for them. They can say what they want. Still, Hogwarts is cold and lonely without friends.

That’s why Luna is hiding: charms with the Slytherins and she misses her parents. She could do with a Snurfuffle right now.

A group of girls pass the table where Luna is hiding. Luna can see their feet stop then a cough that sounded a lot like “loony”. The girls walk away, sniggering. Luna rummages in her bag for something she took from her dormitory before coming to hide and remembers. Her mother’s smiling face fills her with familiar warmth and Luna is OK again.

The sun moves from behind a cloud and sunlight streams in from the high library window. The light falls across Luna’s knees and she watches as the dust faeries appear before her. Holding the picture to her chest, Luna hums for the dancing faeries. They pirouette around her head and tickle her nose.

“Achoo!” Luna sneezes, sending the faeries into a fast tempo rumba.

All of a sudden a friendly round face appears under the table.

“OH!” Luna laughs, “You surprised me!”

“I’m sorry,” apologises Neville, “I heard a sneeze and just wanted to check who was under here. Why are you under the table?”

“The call of the dancing dust faeries,” said Luna like it was common knowledge. It was common knowledge (to her) but it wasn’t the full story and, for once, she didn’t want to tell the truth.

And she didn’t want him to be sorry. She always loves the surprise.

“Right. Does that happen often, then?” Neville gave her a quizzical look. He didn’t want to offend her but he has never heard of faeries in the Hogwarts library.

“Whenever the sun shines bright. They don’t dance in the dark.”

“Well, umm…Do you want to get out from under the table?”

It was a simple enough question but to Luna it meant leaving her safe place. She looked up into Neville’s face. He held out his hand to help her out from under the table and she took it.

“You’re like a Snurfuffle,” Luna declared suddenly.

“Oh. Umm…thank you.” Neville didn’t know what an amazing creature a Snurfuffle was or what it meant to be one, but the way Luna was smiling told him it must be something nice. It made him all warm and happy inside.

The faeries were left to dance without her but Luna was okay with that. She could visit them whenever she wanted, just like she could see her mum and dad whenever she wanted. She slipped the photo into her bag and with one last glance at her safe place, Luna left the library with Neville. She had a feeling she won’t be visiting it much anymore because missing her parents wasn’t so hard with her own Snurfuffle at Hogwarts.

The Luna Lovegood Writing Competition

Section B- Luna in the Spotlight

WINNER- Luna Lovegood by OtterySt.Catchpole

Luna Lovegood

It was after the D.A. meeting, everyone had snuck back out to their dormitories and the castle lay silent. Ottery clutched his wand in his hand as he walked up the steps of the tower, ready for anything. He didn’t want Cheeky getting the drop on him. This fight was too important and he knew she was good. As powerful as Dumbledore so the rumors went, but he wasn’t so sure. He thought maybe it was just that cape she always wore. He opened the tower door and found instead a mild surprise waiting.

Standing in the middle of the tower, dressed in a long white cloak bathed in moonlight was Luna Lovegood. He recognized her from the meeting earlier, but what was she doing up here at night?

He closed the door behind him but she made no move to turn so he walked around to face her as she gazed up at the full moon.

“Hey, there,” he said tentatively.

“It’s going to rain tonight,” she said as if he had asked.

He looked up at the cloudless sky.

“I don’t think so,” he remarked. She really was an odd one.

“It doesn’t only rain water,” she replied, and he let it go at that.

“What are you doing up here?”

“Working on a paper for Astronomy,” Luna answered.

“The telescopes over there,” he pointed to it across the way, but she kept looking at the moon.

“Should you be out here?” Luna asked politely, “You could get in trouble being out after hours.”

“Yeah well, I’m supposed to meet Cheeky here, she called me out on a duel. She says Rupert er … Ron’s hers but …” He stopped and watched her smiling. A smile like a ghost, ephemeral, not quite wholly there.

Why was she dressed like that and why wasn’t she writing her paper or taking notes? He figured Ravenclaws were weird but, even by their standards, Luna was a whole other kind of odd.

“I like the moonlight,” she said, though not in answer. In the distance a werewolf howled, and the boy shivered and not because of the cold.

“So … uhm, lovely moon tonight, isn’t it?” the dark haired boy said awkwardly. He didn’t know what to make of her, the odd Ravenclaw girl.
He’d heard things about her, everyone called her Loony Luna, and she looked kind of silly and was too quiet, but he’d never been alone with her before and didn’t know what to make of it.

She simply stared at the full moon, it reflected in her dreamy eyes.

“Love’s a funny thing,” she said.

“Tell me about it. That’s what I always say, but everyone just looks at me weirdly.”

“I thought I’d find a cure for heartbreak once,” she went on, as if she hadn’t heard him, “but all I found was patience and time, and even that isn’t a cure, just a salve on a wound.”

He looked at her as blankly as she looked at him.

“The Dark Lord’s returned.”

The boy shivered again, and again it was not because of the cold for no wind was blowing that night.

“Do you think we stand a chance of winning?” he asked her. I mean … if Harry’s right, and the Death Eaters attack.”

“Of course Harry’s right,” she said without the trace of a doubt in her voice. “We all love pleasant things, and when the dark times come, some people try to hide from them. But when they’re here, there’s nothing to do but fight them. You can’t hide with your head in the ground.”

“You’re right of course,” he said and wondered why it was she seemed to know so much. Of course, that’s why she was in Ravenclaw.

Luna was lost in a reverie then.

She remembered her mother, and pleasanter days when she’d been alive, and things had been happier. It was she who had taught her to fight, to stand up for what was right, and to love herself as she was.

The sun was shining over the city, and Luna was walking down the cobblestone streets of Ottery St. Catchpole, her hand in her mother’s as they went to the muggle grocer. It was a pretty memory. She liked to catch butterflies and, that day in town, her mother bought her a glass box to put them in.

“But you mustn’t ever harm them, dear,” her mother had said, and she could still hear her sweet sounding voice, which sung her to sleep as a child, “because they don’t hurt anyone and they’re just here to be lovely.”

From that day on, whenever Luna captured butterflies, she’d put them in the box, and take them to her mother to see, and she would open the box and they would all flutter out and fly away. She liked capturing things to know them and see them but always she set them free. Most things in nature she knew were just here to be lovely … and those that weren’t … well her father had taught her it was their duty to warn people about in the paper.

The Quibbler was not as popular as The Daily Prophet, but she knew her father would never slander someone like Harry Potter, who was just telling a distasteful truth. Luna could see it in his eyes. It was a look like she had when she told people about the heliopaths or warned them to watch out for nargles in mistletoe. Some truths weren’t apparently obvious but that didn’t make them lies. Still it was always easier to believe the comfortable lies than the unpleasant truth, especially if it bothered the affable dull reality of life.

Someday she would run The Quibbler, her father had said, if she wanted to, and Luna wondered about that and butterflies.

“L-Luna,” he had checked himself from saying Loony, “Are you all right?”

The Astronomy Tower. She felt for the note in her pocket. The one Professor Sinistra had written allowing her to be out late at night.

“Perfectly,” she said, “I was just thinking about nargles and butterflies.”

“Right.” The boy said, incredulously. He’d never understand girls, but Luna was a whole other creature.

“You live in Ottery St. Catchpole, too, don’t you?” he asked.

She took a glass box out of her robes and he watched it, inside a blade of grass three butterflies sat, opening and closing their wings. She needed to visit her mother’s grave there to let them go. She didn’t ever bring flowers to the cemetery, her mother had never much liked them anyways — the little town florist was always flirting with Luna’s father — but she always brought butterflies when she went to talk to her there.

“I like to catch butterflies there,” she finished the thought.

He looked at her oddly for a second and saw, mirrored in her eyes, a great sadness like his own.

“Maybe you’d like to go catch some with me when you’re home,” she said.

“Yeah, I … I think I’d like that,” the boy said with a sad little smile. There was more to Luna than what people saw on the outside or what they said behind her back, and he wanted very much to know her.

She opened the box to let the butterflies out, and they followed their flight into the night sky, where a shower of falling stars lit the darkness.

“Hey look it’s raining … ”

The Luna Lovegood Writing Competition

Section C- Luna's Looking Glass

WINNER- Adrift by hpoenixrose13star

Adrift

Luna Lovegood, editor of The Quibbler, sat in her home, looking through a large scrapbook. It contained pictures from her entire life, up until the war had ended. Pictures of her mother, smiling and waving, or of her, her mother, and her father on a trip. The pictures changed, though, as they always did. They stopped showing her mother. Now, they only showed her and her father, smiling, yet slightly unhappy.

Luna lived alone, visiting her father as often as she could. She lived in a quiet town, far from city life and Muggles, which meant she could openly practice magic. Her home was alive and full of odd things, yet oddly, dim and silent. She never had any visitors, just the occasional owl from one of her employees.

After Hogwarts, after the war had ended, all the people Luna cherished as friends began to drift apart. Harry had survived, though he hardly wanted to live, with Ginny gone. Ginny had died in the war. All had stood horror-struck as Voldemort laughed, telling Harry that he could never kill him, unless he killed Ginny, who had turned out to be the last Horcrux. Ginny, in an act of sheer selflessness, sacrificed herself. This had affected everyone in such a way that not even Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger stayed friends. The loss of Ron's sister was too hard on him and his family. He became reclusive and Hermione had left England, never telling Ron how much she loved him. Now, she was married to Viktor Krum and had a son; Ron was alone. Even Neville Longbottom, who went on to teach Herbology at Hogwarts, drifted from everyone else.

Luna felt as old and decrepit as her father, and more alone than she'd ever been. She only had pictures left to look at now: pictures of her friends before they began to drift or of her mother before she died. Even Luna's zest for things like the Crumple-Horned Snorkack had vanished.

Luna stood, stopping on a picture of Harry and Ginny. The happy couple waved up at Luna, Harry with his arm around Ginny's waist. The Ginny in the picture planted a kiss on Harry, who proceeded to tickle her affectionately. Luna sighed and with a pop! apparated to Ginny's graveside.

Luna was not the only one there. Harry was on his knees, his hand hiding his face, flowers crunched in his fist. He was crying. At the sound of Luna apparating right by him, Harry looked up.

"L-Luna?" he questioned. "Is it really you?"

Luna smiled serenely.

"Hello, Harry." she said, her voice still as vague and dreamy as Harry remembered. "How've you been?"

"Oh, I've been--good. You?"

"Oh, yes, I've been dandy."

"Do, you, uh, come here often?" Harry asked.

"As often as I can. You?"

"Everyday. I c-can't believe I've never run into you before." he said, forcing a laugh. Harry really had gone to pieces. His hair, though usually wild, appeared to have worsened, and he had not bothered to shave; his face full of overgrown stubble. His clothes were tattered and despite how skinny he had always been, he now looked as though he hadn't had a proper meal in months.

"Yes, how very peculiar."

"Well, y-you look good."

"You, too."

Harry laughed. "Me? No, I don't. I look terrible."

"Well, yes, you do, but I thought we were conversing in lies."

Harry laughed. "You haven't changed, Luna."

"I beg to differ."

"I thought we were speaking in lies."

She smiled, taking a seat beside Harry. "So, do you have a job, Harry?"

"Oh, yes, I'm Minister of Magic, don't you know?" he let out another laugh, this one not as fake as the last. "You?"

"Oh, no. I don't contribute to society. Are you married?"

"Oh, yes. I've got--" he pretended to count on his fingers. "Ten wives!"

The two roared with laughter.

"What about you?"

"Oh, I think I can top that, I've got twenty husbands!"

"Hooray, for polygamy!" Harry shouted. "What about kids?"

"Oh, yes my cardboard box is crawling with them. You?"

"I haven't seen a floor in ages, kids everywhere!"

The two continued to swap lies about their "happy" lives till it was dark.

With a sigh, the two looked to the grave marker.

"I miss her."

"Me, too."

"It's late."

"Yeah."

"Would you care to join me for a cup of tea, Harry? We can apparate to my home--"

"Ah, I can't."

"Oh? I'm sorry to hear that. Well, will you write sometime? You could come by when you--"

"Luna, I've got to go."

Luna sighed as Harry rose. "I won't see you again, will I?"

"What? Of course, you will."

"Lies, again?"

"Not at all," said Harry, though Luna knew he was only going along with the game.

"Right, so I'll see you soon. For tea or maybe dinner."

"Yes, of course. Bye."

"Bye, Harry."

With a pop, Harry had gone and Luna knew that she would never see him again.

"I guess you were the glue keeping everyone together, Ginny. We've all fallen apart without you. Everyone's gone adrift..." Luna said as tears rolled down her cheeks, "I miss you." A soft wind brushed her face, almost as though it were trying to wipe away her tears. "Ginny...?" The wind whistled softly, playing with Luna's hair.

"I miss you, too..." Luna thought she heard the wind whisper, as she too departed.

Title: Luna Lovegood's Parisian Adventure: Obviously a Romance
Theme : Secrets

She ran down the street her long blue dress billowing like a cloud around her. Luna Lovegood laughed, her blonde curly hair flying like banners in the same swift wind her flight created. The Ravenclaw girl ran, not from fear, and not from fright but from fun. Or rather, because of it.

"I'm going to catch you, you know that?" the red haired boy said, grinning his most mischievous, happy smile. La Giaconda would be envious.

Ronald Weasley ran down the stone stairs towards the park, all around them muggles watched as the boy chased the girl. Most of them couldn't understand what Ron had said. Two old men sitting by a park bench playing chess gave each other knowing glances, it was a game after all if it required a different strategy. A woman selling flowers smiled as she wrapped a small bouquet of small roses. As Luna ran past the woman grabbed the boy by the arm. Ron looked up at her, the flower lady handed him the flowers.

"I'm sorry," he said blushing, catching his breath, "I haven't any muggle money." The truth of the matter he kept to himself, he had no money.

The woman pushed the flowers back into his hand, pointed to the girl. A smack on the rump the flower lady had sent Ron after Luna, as he said thanks she watched him running after the girl, and she whispered in a way that implied a long forgotten fond memory, "C'est l'amour."

♥♥♥

She lay in his arms on the soft grass, the tiny pink rose bouquet in her hands, while he plied her with the same supplication, like so many lovers so many times throughout recorded time.

"Now will you tell me?" Ronald asked.

Luna looked up at him, put a rose in his hair. Her fondest desire come true, to be in his arms. Luna put another rose behind his other ear.

"I think you were a roman conquerer in a past life," she said.

"What?" Ronald asked.

"I think you were Caesar, or some conquerer or other." Luna replied.

"Then why can't I win a simple secret from you?" the boy asked.

Luna sighed. Her memory shimmered for an instant and she remembered lying in his arms, like a forgotten memory. Ronald's hair colored a darker shade, and he wore the uniform of a roman legionnaire, and she lay across him and her hair was shorter and black, and then it was she who plied him with supplications even as she fed him grapes ...

"The secret that I love you Ronald?" Luna asked, in the present lying with her back against the red haired boy under a tree in a park in Paris while the birds sang their sweet summer song all around them.

"That's not a secret ..." Ron said smiling down at her ...

SLAM!

Luna looked up at Professor Snape. The potion's master had used his wand to get the young Ravenclaw's attention. Luna saw as a small wisp of smoke rose from the corner of her desk, beside her Ginny stifled a giggle behind a faux coughing fit. Obviously the professor had conjured lighting.

"Ms. Lovegood, I hope my class is not interrupting your daydreaming," the potion's master said meanly.

A raucous chorus of laughter arose around her and Ginny did not find that humorous.

"No Professor," she said smartly, "I've already finished the Bloating Potion."

Professor Snape buried his face in his palm. He knew the potion would work, it would have been meticulously mixed and concocted.

Ginny smiled at that and joined in the laughter of the other students. Luna turned to look at her with a blank stare which Ginny understood to be a question, "We're making Hurdy Gurdy Elixir today Luna."

The Ravenclaw girl looked up at the chalkboard were all the ingredients were written in the professors nice longhand.

"Oh," Luna said. Secretly though she didn't mind getting no marks for her work, it had been a pleasant day dream ...

The LLFC's Second One Word Story!

Luna smiled and hopped Neville around the tree giggling. Then, suddenly Neville turned to Luna and gave her a kiss. Luna smiled and said, "You are so great, Neville."

Neville blushed. Luna laughed again. They ran quickly through the trees and saw a trumpet lying on the red rocks. Luna picked up the trumpet and played a love song. Neville leaned towards Luna and sang lovely tune along with Luna's trumpet. They smiled and sat near to her as she hummed a pretty Tune. Neville shrieked with joy as though it were her marvellouse dance.

Amazingly she started to shriek too. They danced as a dove spun above them and danced with the amazing purple lights flickered within the ballroom. Luna stepped up to Neville toes and began to waltz with him. Neville blushed and he quickly stood up and turned around and boogied. While Luna giggled and smiled she was dancing to the song of the nargles.

Just as someone was creeping very quietly toward them, Neville shouted 'Stop'!

The someone jumped on a huge rock and screamed "I THINK I LOVE YOU!"

Luna stared and began to run. Her feet tripped over the small animal to the rock that the animal had placed in front of her. Neville jumped and grabbed Luna then he punched the air furiously. The sky was turning pink. Luna gasped and pulled on the rope that held a chandelier made pretty and purple. The dance was slow but still discombobulating and she was feeling funny. The next day the sky was an amazing color of green, it was so enlightening. Luna smiled at Neville once, but he was busy eating spam. Sighing, Luna decided to dance in front of trees to get Neville's attention.

Neville was busy being Neville, and didn't notice the giant musical preforming a fantastic rendition, with amazing trumpeting, magical and amazing dancing show. Luna then sniffed a turnip and sneezed the bits onto tiny marshmallows, then she threw some silly string onto handsome floors that looked like pebbles and watched Neville stumble across large rocks that had weird symbols carved within it. Neville looked closer at them and sat down on a strange rock that moved up and down. Just then Luna saw Harry looking closely at a weird rock which appeared to talk once before it jumped. Harry puked up over the rock and decided that he would never eat blue berries while skipping on a silly mini shorts because of things that ate crazy purple people with milk. Luna giggled loudly because once Harry puked wildly on pink stones.

Neville tried not to dance in happiness as some flying toads took Crookshanks and flew away. Crookshanks was hissing very angrily because the small cockroach was trying to make sticky mess.

"ZOMG!" Yelled toad. Neville meanwhile continued playing with a tiara. Luna polished the Triwizard champian's egg. While she was eating a bush, Luna told crookshanks to jump over Luna's pigeon. That very pigeon had decided to eat the huge piece of cheese and bread with milk on a plane. Luna jumped for a squirrel which had jumped in with a nut. The squirrel ate a piece of cutlery. Neville screamed and turned to Draco who had his wand in a bottle. Luna ran around the castle and picked up Pansy, then dropped her on a porcupine. Meanwhile Neville punched the treebranch and it yelled at two flying trumpets. Running at them was a parachute with legs and arms, holding butter.

A Perfect Moment
by Racheya

A blonde haired, misty eyed woman smiled to her husband as she let go of his hand, skipping off into a bunch of trees that were just waiting to be explored. She hated leaving her husband, Luna enjoyed every moment of his company, wherever she went was empty if he was not there with her. But her sense of adventure got the best of her, they were on a hunt for Astkips. Odd little creatures they were, they were almost like hedgehogs without spines but they were a pale blue colour and travelled by rolling around forest floors. They were peculiar because despite their blue hue, they had never been seen by muggles or wizarding folk alike. It was a mystery, one that Luna was determined to solve with the aid of her husband who was equally curious about these Astkips. Leaving her husband on the main path, Luna traversed this section of the woods on her own; her eyes scanning the forest floor for anything that could be considered blue or rolling, preferably both. She was too busy letting her eyes flicker around for the sign of yet another mystical creature that would be making front page of The Quibbler if she could just get a picture of one, to notice what was right there in front of her.

Luna looked up, slowly, her eyes shining with burning emotion as her eyes landed on one of the most beautiful sights she had ever seen. Just ahead of her was a clearing with a large, glistening pool of cool crystal blue water. The plants and foliage around it, even the lily pads that lazily drifted over the water seemed to exude beauty. For a second she thought that it was just a trick of the light from the corner of her eye. But then she noticed it again. A small, blue creature, hopping onto a lily pad then slipping back into the water with such a tiny ripple it could have not been there at all.

“It’s... an Astkip.” Luna whispered softly as she approached the pond, her eyes wide with excitement and awe. It was a beautiful image: seeing the small creatures leaping from lily pad to the water and back again. Sometimes they would jump from lily pad to lily pad before diving back into the depths again. She stood there for a few moments but what could have been forever through Luna’s eyes, before realising that something was missing. She was terrified that if she left, the Astkips would disappear by the time she came back, but this moment was one she wanted to share with her husband. So she turned to go back for him when she saw that he was stood just a few metres behind her with the same, awe struck face. She couldn’t help but smile as she walked over to him and took his hand. “I told you they were real.” She smiled to him.

“I know you did, I believed you but I never expected it to be so...”

“... Beautiful.” Luna finished for him. Well, it was. There wasn’t really any other way she could describe it as they walked towards the pond, watching the Astkips playing in the water. It was actually clear to see that the ones jumping in and out of the pond were only children, occasionally larger ones peeked their heads out of the water before slipping back down. Luna and her husband sat on a fallen log just a little away from the pond. Luna wanted nothing more to run over to them and see them up close. But she knew that wouldn’t work, they looked like the sort of creatures that ran away if they were startled. And when she had been researching them before they had came out on their journey to the woods, she had suspected that they hadn’t been seen just because most human presence would startle the Astkips. But Luna wasn’t any ordinary human, she had to admit that herself. Luna took out her camera from her shoulder bag and began to snap pictures, trying to keep the small clicking of the camera as quiet as she could. Once she was sure she had some good pictures, she put the camera away and let herself simply enjoy the company of the mystical creatures. She found it funny how people seemed to think that they already knew every animal that existed on the planet, muggles especially, did they have no sense of curiosity and adventure?

Beside her, her husband was scribbling away with a quill onto a pad of paper, noting down things they could put in their article. They worked together really well, Luna would get the pictures and he would write the articles. They were a perfect team really, one her father was proud of. He had been so happy when Luna had finally taken over The Quibbler full time, of course that didn’t stop him coming on expeditions once in a while with them and writing the odd article here and there.

Now their work was done, Luna could fully appreciate the beauty of where they were. Just the two of them alone, surrounded by creatures only their eyes had ever landed on, in the most breathtaking little nook of the world where the water ran crystal clear and the petals on the flowers seemed to glow with energy and life. Giggling softly as an Astkip rolled right by her feet, Luna smiled and wondered if there had ever been a more perfect moment.

Luna-Tics Discussions Archive

Nearly all of our past discussions have been condensed into one thread, the Luna-Tics Discussions Archive. Sadly, many of the posts are not in order. While I am far too lazy to go through and make a list of which question every post answers, I have made a list of where each new discussion is supposed to start. Keep in mind that the archive thread is no for reference only, as it is locked.
