Luna's Loony One-Shot Extravaganza!

Hello, all! Aria, here. As your Fanfic Director here at the LLFC, I decided that we needed to have a regular fanfic event-- thus this monthly One-Shot Extravaganza was born!

This is pretty basic-- Each month there will be a new chance to enter the contest with a one-shot about Luna. The story will be ruled almost entirely by you-- the only thing you must do is keep the theme in mind! There will be a word or phrase at the start of each new month that you must weave into your story as a theme/concept.

Here are the rules:

1. One entry per-person
2. If you enter and win first place you automatically are a judge for the next round
3. Use the theme
4. Use proper grammar
5. No foul langauge
6. Keep it decent
7. Be creative!
8. No using the word for the theme in the title (ie; if the word is love, you canNOT call your story Love or True Love or Love Story-- Creativity counts!)
9. Can be ANY Genre (Romance, Comedy, Drama-- Dramedy!)
10. There isn't a word limit-- HOWEVER, do not make it TOO LONG! If it feels like it's a novel length one-shot, we will overlook it.
11. Follow all SS RULES!
12. Must be THREE judges at all times
13. No voting for yourself (please see judging and voting for more details)
14. Be curtious to the judges and to all participants
15. And above all else... HAVE A LOONY GOOD TIME!

Voting and Judging

As it only seems right, we need judges for this event! I realize, however, that the last event, the winners were chosen by other members! Thus we are going to mix it up. The judges will have the final say, but members will be allowed to give there own opinions and chose their favourite story!

First off, as mentioned before, we need five judges at all times.

To qualify as a Judge:

1. You must be a member of the LLFC (duh.)
2. You must be on regularly (at least once daily or once every other day)
3. Bare minimu of two judges, preferably three, be an officer
4. A first place winner of fanfic competition
5. Must be a fair judge taking into consideration all aspects of the judging rubric.
6. Must have at least participated in the Extravaganza once.

If we are in desperate need of a judge for a round we will need a few people on stand-bye, who are willing to judge. Judging must be non-baist; meaning no picking your friends just because they are your friends. There will be a scoring rubric for the judges. An application for stand-bye, which will consist of members who are not officers will be available by PM.

I am the first judge and will always judge-- darn, I can't enter. :=):

This rounds possible judges have been PMed and I will post their names once I have heard from them.

Voting:

Everyone can vote-- except the judges! The voting is for fun, support and to help boost scores! This is where you can help your friends if you wish, though it will only be worth ten extra points for the most popular author.

Only one vote per person-- meaning only vote for one person per round. You can always vote for your friend to show your support. The person with the most votes will be awarded an extra ten points after the judges have gone over the scores given by them.

Only one person can be the Lunatics Choice.

Scoring/Judging Rubric/Points:

Each judge will be sent by PM their rubric. It is very likely that some judges will excell in grammer, while some will be better when it comes to creativity, but it is expected that each judge do their best in following the rubric and score accordingly.

Points are awarded by juddges accorrding to:

1. Spelling/Grammer
2. Creativity/Originality
3. Use of Theme
4. Overall Plot
5. Characterization
6. Organization/Consitency/Fluidity
7. Use of Literary Elements (Imagery/Allusions.. etc)
8.Overall Writing (includes dialogue, narration, characterization...etc)
9. Lunatics's choice
10. Judges's choice

The last two, are based off of who the Lunatic members voted for and who the judges thought was the overall best. Meaning, you, the members will choose your favourite, who not only gets ten extra points, but an award for being the Lunatics's Choice and the judges will also collaborate on who the all think is there overall favourite-- scoring aside.

If three judges like Lunatic A out of the five, then that person wins the Judges's Choice award and an extra ten points, however, that does not mean they will win first place for certain.

Each aspect you are graded on is worth up to ten points, making a total of 100 possible points. If someone manages to get all one hundred there is a special prize for that.

Placing/Prizes

Now, then the placing and prizes portion.

There are going to be three people chosen by the judges: First Place, Second Place, and Third Place. Then there is a seperate award for Lunatics's Choice and Judges's Choice, which leaves a total of five awards.

You can earn up to 100 points on your entry. Just by participating you will earn Lls. Each person to win an award will recieve one extra Ll plus a siggy and/or avvie as their prize.

The first place person is expected to judge the next two rounds as well as choose the theme for the next round.

Those who win any of the five awards will have their one-shot put up in a special thread for the winners of this competition.

Loony Linking to Lasting Lives

Luna Lovegood stared in wonder at her muggle-born friend. “That’s the Hornes Come Trident!” She said accusingly. “No....in the muggle world we call it a computer.” Luna was amazed, “How did muggles mange to harness the magic from the Trident?” It would be impossible for them to have made it otherwise. “We don’t use magic, this is made out of circuits and stuff,” her friend said to her trying to explain. “Which they made using magic! There is no other explanation for it!” Luna then started on a long winded explanation on the origins of the Hornes Come Trident and the magic it has.

Her name was Leia. She was a fifth year and almost seven feet tall. Her long flowing brunette hair covered most of her face and her back but it didn’t seem to bother her. Luna had been her friend since she’d first transferred to Hogwarts and she’d put up with the constant ramblings of her friend. Leia was lightly tanned but was steadily losing it as the cold winter days went by but surprisingly she looked even better without it. Then there was Neville. He was sweet and kind of cute too, but that was a secret, Luna wasn’t to know-Leia knew she would have become distant.

Soon enough they would be heading back to Hogwarts, that is if Leia could survive Luna’s sermon and she would see him again. Neville never really noticed her hints before and this year Leia decided to come out strong, there would be a dance coming up this year, she planned to ask him.

Friday,
Hello, I’m writing from Leia’s home. She claims a “computer” was made by muggles but I’m sure that it uses magic from the Hornes Come Trident; after all it did work like magic without any problems. Anyway I will not dwell on that now. I’ll ask my father when I get home. There are things I can’t ask my father though, things only a mother can answer. Since I don’t have one I expect I’ll have to work it out on my own. The thing is, Neville asked me a question before I left, and it wasn’t the kind of thing he usually asks. Okay, he asked me if I would go to the ball with him. Leia doesn’t know, I didn’t tell her because I’m not sure myself. I don’t think I should tell her until I answer him.

Everybody Lies

The dirty blonde hair of Luna Lovegood rippled behind her as she ran towards the Gryffindor Common room; hopefully Neville would be there to help clear up some of the things that the Malfoy boy had told her.
He must have been lying. Neville didn’t have any secrets from her. They had been a pair for nearly a month and not once had Neville kept anything from her. She trusted him implicitly and Neville trusted her.
But why couldn’t she get what Draco had said out of her mind?

Knocking on the portrait that lead into Neville’s common room, Luna stood back and waited for someone to come out. After a few seconds Hermione’s bushy head appeared at the portrait hole and smiled.
“Hello Luna.”
“Good morning Hermione. Is Neville there?”
Hermione nodded and left the portrait hole to be quickly replaced by Neville who clumsily left the common room and jumped out into the hallway with Luna.
“Hiya Luna.” He said smiling.
“Hello Neville.” She replied, edging her hand towards his.
“So… what are you doing here?” he asked. Luna didn’t usually come over to the common room. They would meet in the Library or down by the lake at the weekends and spend the day together reading or just watching the giant squid on the top of the water.

“Draco Malfoy told me something yesterday.” She said serenely.
“Oh.”
“He said that you were going out with Ginny Weasley.” Her voice was still calm and serene but now had a slight hint of accusation.
Neville’s face turned red and he shook his head.
”He is lying.”
“I thought we didn’t have secrets.”
”We don’t.”
“Then why would he say such a thing? Its not very nice you know.”
Neville sighed. “I don’t know. Maybe he is jealous.”
Luna smiled. “I think the only way he would be jealous is if a trempack got into his brain.”
“Uh.. sure.”
“They make people tempted by things they normally aren’t can usually cause jealousy.”

Neville nodded. “Well that must be it because I am not going out with Ginny Weasley.” She insisted as they walked back to the Gryffindor common room portrait.
Luna shook her head. “Are you sure. Because maybe you have a trempack…” she said pondering him for a moment.
Neville turned red again and shook his head. “I’m sure. I’m not going out with her. Trust me. I wouldn’t keep a secret from you.”
Luna nodded and smiled. “Okay. I trust you.”
Neville smiled and hugged Luna before he walked into the Gryffindor common room leaving Luna outside. He hated lying to Luna but sometimes he just had to.

♥ Luna Lovegood's Parisian Adventure: Obviously a Romance ♥

She ran down the street her long blue dress billowing like a cloud around her. Luna Lovegood laughed, her blonde curly hair flying like banners in the same swift wind her flight created. The Ravenclaw girl ran, not from fear, and not from fright but from fun. Or rather, because of it.

"I'm going to catch you, you know that?" the red haired boy said, grinning his most mischievous, happy smile. La Giaconda would be envious.

Ronald Weasley ran down the stone stairs towards the park, all around them muggles watched as the boy chased the girl. Most of them couldn't understand what Ron had said. Two old men sitting by a park bench playing chess gave each other knowing glances, it was a game after all if it required a different strategy. A woman selling flowers smiled as she wrapped a small bouquet of small roses. As Luna ran past the woman grabbed the boy by the arm. Ron looked up at her, the flower lady handed him the flowers.

"I'm sorry," he said blushing, catching his breath, "I haven't any muggle money." The truth of the matter he kept to himself, he had no money.

The woman pushed the flowers back into his hand, pointed to the girl. A smack on the rump the flower lady had sent Ron after Luna, as he said thanks she watched him running after the girl, and she whispered in a way that implied a long forgotten fond memory, "C'est l'amour."

She lay in his arms on the soft grass, the tiny pink rose bouquet in her hands, while he plied her with the same supplication, like so many lovers so many times throughout recorded time.

"Now will you tell me?" Ronald asked.

Luna looked up at him, put a rose in his hair. Her fondest desire come true, to be in his arms. Luna put another rose behind his other ear.

"I think you were a roman conquerer in a past life," she said.

"What?" Ronald asked.

"I think you were Caesar, or some conquerer or other." Luna replied.

"Then why can't I win a simple secret from you?" the boy asked.

Luna sighed. Her memory shimmered for an instant and she remembered lying in his arms, like a forgotten memory. Ronald's hair colored a darker shade, and he wore the uniform of a roman legionnaire, and she lay across him and her hair was shorter and black, and then it was she who plied him with supplications even as she fed him grapes ...

"The secret that I love you Ronald?" Luna asked, in the present lying with her back against the red haired boy under a tree in a park in Paris while the birds sang their sweet summer song all around them.

"That's not a secret ..." Ron said smiling down at her ...

SLAM!

Luna looked up at Professor Snape. The potion's master had used his wand to get the young Ravenclaw's attention. Luna saw as a small wisp of smoke rose from the corner of her desk, beside her Ginny stifled a giggle behind a faux coughing fit. Obviously the professor had conjured lighting.

"Ms. Lovegood, I hope my class is not interrupting your daydreaming," the potion's master said meanly.

A raucous chorus of laughter arose around her and Ginny did not find that humorous.

"No Professor," she said smartly, "I've already finished the Bloating Potion."

Professor Snape buried his face in his palm. He knew the potion would work, it would have been meticulously mixed and concocted.

Ginny smiled at that and joined in the laughter of the other students. Luna turned to look at her with a blank stare which Ginny understood to be a question, "We're making Hurdy Gurdy Elixir today Luna."

The Ravenclaw girl looked up at the chalkboard were all the ingredients were written in the professors nice longhand.

"Oh," Luna said. Secretly though she didn't mind getting no marks for her work, it had been a pleasant day dream ...

I've finally finished my entry, few days before the deadline here it is!

He Said...

He said, that she said, that she said, that he said, that my socks said, that a pygmy puff said… I’m so sick of this! Everyone’s telling me rumour after rumour when all I asked for was the truth. Why is the truth so hard to reach these days? I know it’s my fault all of this started, I’m the one running around after people. But I wish Ginny hadn’t told me anything now. Just three words, three words turned my entire life upside-down.

“Neville likes you.” Said Ginny, beaming at me like a proud parent.
“What?” I replied wondering why on Earth she thought it fit to tell me this.
“Well… Hermione said, that Lavender said, that Parvati said, that Harry told her Neville likes you!” Ginny stared at me as though expecting me to jump around screaming, but I didn’t. Sure I’d written “I ♥ Neville 4eva” on desks and essays, and sure I’d dreamed about him taking me to Hogsmeade to spot Crumple-horned Snorkacks. But I never really liked him, or did I?
“Luna? Are you still with us? Stupid question really…”
Ginny’s voice came charging into my fantasies as I shot back to Earth.
“Ginny why are you telling me this?” I asked, trying to sound confused.
She didn’t answer. She grinned at me, made a tutting noise and walked off. Well that’s just fantastic. I don’t even know if she was telling the truth or not! Did she say Lavender told her? Who’s Lavender?! How could this situation be more complicated?
“Hey Luna!”
Oh my goodness, it’s Neville! I just sat there looking at him, judging him you could say. Sure his robes were a little short and his hair was even messier than that Harry Potter’s, but his face adorned a cute loving smile that could capture anyone’s heart.
“Erm… Hi Neville!” I stared at the ground feeling my cheeks turn crimson. Neville gave me an adorably puzzled look and I melted like a marshmallow in Hot Chocolate. I couldn’t deny it, I wanted him to say “I love you” and whisk me away to a land full of extra fluffy pygmy puffs, where we would live happily ever after…
“Are you okay Luna? You seem a little… off… well more off than usual anyway-“
“Neville do you fancy Ginny?” It came out so suddenly and I didn’t even know why I said it. Sometimes my mouth seems to think for me, strange I know…
Neville stared at me for a full ten seconds before shaking his head slowly.
“Oh! Well who do you fancy then?” I asked eagerly, so that’s why I said it. My mouth is rather clever sometimes!
To my surprise, Neville’s face immediately flooded with red.
“Erm… I… I don’t like to say… I prefer to keep it a secret… Not that I don’t trust you!” He said, his flushed face showing signs of panic. I nodded sadly and walked away from him. I can’t help but wish he wasn’t such a coward.

So here I am, running after all the people Ginny mentioned trying to find out if Neville Longbottom loves me or not. It seems silly doesn’t it? Charging after people trying to get them to tell the truth. But if you knew how much I love him, and for how long I have, you’d understand. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him my feelings, if what Ginny told me isn’t true I couldn’t bear with the embarrassment. Neville wouldn’t talk to me again… Whether he loves me or not, until he has the courage to tell me how he feels, how I feel will always be a secret.

Tumbling and Restacking
Luna sat in the library, a nearby tottering pile of books dangerously close to falling on her head. The blonde was staring at the pages of one book. If it was anyone but Luna, one could saw she had a murderous look.

“Hey Luna,” a quiet voice whispered behind her.

Luna turned. “Hi Neville!” she exclaimed a bit loudly.

“Shhh!” Neville hissed nervously. Madame Pince had forced him from the library not to long ago when someone had poked his Mimbulus Mimbletonia accidentally, causing to spurt Stinksap over several books. He positioned himself on a table near the quivering pile of text. “What are you doing?” Neville had seen the cover of Luna’s book – a compilation of Quibbler stories related to Hogwarts.

“Secrets,” was Luna’s response.

“Can you tell me?” Neville asked, a little hurt. He and Luna had become very good friends over the past few months, telling each other anything and everything.

“No…” Luna gave him an odd look. “I haven’t found it yet. When I know what it is, I’ll tell you.”

Neville nodded, the slight hurt vanishing instantly. “Do you know what you’re looking for?”

Luna frowned at a particular sentence before turning to look at Neville. “My dad hinted at some sort of secret relating to Hogwarts. All he would tell me is that one of the potions dungeons contains a hidden book that has the instructions to create powerful potions.”

Neville cringed; potions was not his forte. “What kind of potions?”

Luna grinned, as if sensing his discomfort. “Insanely simple potions that can affect things such as powerful emotions, deadly illnesses, and cursed families.”

“How simple?”

“We won’t know until we find it.”

Unfortunately, at that moment, Neville tipped sideways off his table, careening into the previously tall pile of thick books. Luna didn’t move an inch as they tumbled onto her. Neville found himself wondering exactly how many bruises she have before getting to his feet and beginning to pull the heavy things off of his friend.

“Are you okay?” Neville asked as Luna’s laughing face came into view.

“I’m fine!” Luna said, shaking her long hair into a more natural position. “I just lost track of what I’ve read already. I had a system going.”

Luna was unable to remember what she had already read as the two of them looked through the mess.

“Here, I’ll help you read through them,” Neville said as they restocked all the books. “Just tell me what to look for.”

So Neville and Luna began the task together.

Sorry i Have this so close to the deadline! I have been so busy lately wiht concert band and school =]

The three girls lay on the soft green grass, their backs facing the earth while their faces were watching the sunlit sky. Very few clouds were in the sky, only some dark rain clouds meters away in the distance.

It was simply a perfect day for the seventh years exams to be finished. Late this morning an announcement was made that all seventh years were able to have the afternoon off. As soon as the rest of the school Hermione went to look for Ginny and have some 'Girl time', which was more like an escape from Ron and Harry's constant talk of quidditch.

But as soon as Hermione found Ginny, who was studding in the library, not only found Ginny, but found Luna too. Hermione couldn't bring herself to hurt Luna and leave her to study by herself, so she invited both the girls to come and sit outside in the center of the quidditch pitch.

Luna was enjoying herself, watching the nearing clouds formations. Ginny and Hermione were also doing the same. None of the girls had spoken in the past ten minutes. Ginny, who hated the long silence, spoke up. "Hermione, what do you think that cloud looks like?"
Hermione didn't exactly have a very good sense of imagination; all she saw was a big blob. "Err maybe... a.. Uh.. What do you th-"
Luna decided to butt in and make her presence known, "I think it's a blast ended skrewt who has just woken up after their hibernation, though he does look rather hungry..." Luna pondered.
The other girls laughed to themselves. "It sure does Luna." Ginny said, sort of sarcastically and rolled her eyes.

Silence soon kicked in again after that. Ginny was getting impatient waiting for someone to speak up. Luna and Hermione both sensed her bordness quickly, so Luna decided to say something,
"It will rain soon"
Hermione and Ginny sat up and looked quizzically at her.
"Luna, How could it, it's an amazing day!" Both the girls looked at her.
Luna assured them that the rain would be coming soon, "It will, judging on the breeze, it's been speeding up a little more every five minutes, and in around thirty minutes it will be strong enough to carry those rainclouds over Hogwarts" While she told them she sounded so sure of herself that Hermione and Ginny didn't bother to question her.

Hermione was sick of the irregular chatter over nothing, so she thought it be best of them all to do something. "Let's play truth or dare"
"What’s Truth or dare?" Luna asked, question in her tone.
Hermione had taught Ginny how to play truth or dare when they were in third year at the Burrow, so Ginny was pretty up-to date with the game.
"Truth or dare is a Muggle game when someone asks you truth or dare, and if you say truth, they will ask you another and you must answer truthfully, or if you say dare, you must accomplish a dare, no hesitation." Ginny said to Luna.
"Hermione since you just finished your exams, how about you start?"
"Err OK Ginny. Truth or Dare?"
"Dare." Ginny sounded as if she always said Dare when it came to Truth or dare.
“Right then… Okay Ginny, I dare you to scream at the top of your lungs, saying “I love Harry!” Hermione and Luna giggled, trying to hold in there laughter.
Ginny looked around, noticing how many people there were. She breathed in, stood up and screamed “I LOVE HARRY!”
Ginny sat down and looked at Luna and Hermione, who were roaring with laughter.
“That was a really mean thing to do, Hermione.” Ginny said, who was bright red and looked rather annoyed with Hermione, but that soon changed.
“Hermione, truth or dare?” A smug Ginny said, a mischievous smile now planted on her face.
“Truth.”
“How long have you loved Ron?” At this, Hermione’s face went red.
“I’ve never loved...” Ginny cut in.
“Hermione you can’t lie, you said truth, you must be truthful.”
Hermione breathed in, and simply said “I honestly don’t know”
Ginny moved her hand ushering her to keep going. Hermione continued “But I think I’ve loved him since third year, but like I said I really don’t know.” She hurried the last few words, and as soon as she stopped talking she buried her face in her hands in embarrassment.

Luna watched the two girls’ truth and dare for a few more minutes; some of the dares were quite crazy. Ginny and Hermione were doing their own thing, and Luna, once again was feeling quite excluded around them. Thunder was sounding and the clouds were more above them, but Ginny and Hermione obviously couldn’t hear them over the top of their giggles.
“Luna, Truth or dare?” Ginny said to Luna, as if she never forgot she was there.
Luna jumped a bit but still answered, “Truth”
“Okay, tell us,” Ginny said rather seriously, causing Hermione to laugh, “Do you like Neville?”
Luna just replied straight away. “Of course I like Neville; He is one of my best friends.”
“Let me rephrase this, do you love Neville?”
Luna just simply said “No.”
The two girls looked at each other, as if knowing what each other were thinking.
Hermione spoke up. “Luna, truth or dare?”
“Dare.”
“Okay, I dare you to tell us who you love.” Hermione said, and then looked up.

The sun wasn’t there anymore and the clouds were right above their heads. A few small raindrops were falling too.
“I guess Luna was right…” Ginny said to herself.
Before Hermione could open her mouth to tell Luna to get on with it, more rain fell and another, rather loud buzz of thunder came.
Hermione and Ginny quickly stood up and ran back to the castle. Luna soon followed, thanking the sky for hiding her secret.
