Luna and her Family
By Simple_Spells
What do you think happened to Luna's Mother: How did she die? Do you think she was "quirky" like Luna and Xenophilus? Was she also part of the "Quibbler"? What do you think Luna is like at home with her father, and any other thoughts on Xenophilus? |

I don't know how many questions I've had on this subject. I've always wanted to know how Luna saw her mom die (hence the her seeing thestrals) and why her family is so quirky and if there are possibly more of them?
Sorry for sort of answering a question with a question and not really answering your question... *puts head down* |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jillian McGuffin First Year | I think it was explained in HBP [I think...>.<] that Luna's mom died when she was about 9. Her mom loved experimenting with spells and one experiment went horribly wrong, so, she died...poor Luna...*pets* anyway, she and her dad seems very close. I guess it's because of the only-child thing and because Xenophilius is scared of what might happen to Luna if they didn't talk much. Luna seems very happy with her dad, though. Even if her dad invents these weird creatures, she still loves him a lot and believes in him most of the time. She definitely got her open-mindedness from her dad! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Isabelle Lestrange | Yep i think thats it, I think Luna and her dad get along well too. I think that Luna's house (that looks like a rook ) could be very quite at times, and maybe thats why they were so Loonie =]
I think that her mum could have been maybe different, but not so different like Xenophilus and Luna, like you said, she liked experimenting. That doesn't say much, but it gives us a bit of background into her and Luna as well. |

It just wouldn't seem to fit to me if she was. I think maybe that some of her dad's crazy ideas and whatnot, might have come after her mother's death and that believing in the simplest and silliest things, may have been a way for him and Luna to bond and overcome the death easier. I guess it's kind of a psychological thing ...

I also think that Luna had frown stronger by the death and the way she may have acted after it. I think she has ways of knowing who people are, not just from the outside, but inside too, and she probably get to know people better by just watching them. I think she may have got that from her mothers side, it doesnt really seem like her father to be like that. |

"She was quite an extraordinary witch, you know, but she liked to experiment and one of her spells went badly wrong one day. I was nine."
| Does that answer it? |

Catlin Scuto Magical Creatures | I feel the explination in the book/film is slightly vauge as all it says is an experiment went badly wrong. This leaves itself open to alot of questions. I hope for lunas sake it wasnt too horrible as something like that can haunt a person.
As for her mums personality i think she was slightly more grounded then her dad but still kooky. I would of loved for jo to elaberate on lunas mum (did we ever learn her name?)
As for Xeno, he has a close relationship with luna, this could of always been like that but it could also be due to what happened to his wife. I think if he lost luna too then he would go completley crazy (i would say he would bounce off the walls but does a round house have walls or just A wall )
btw i ramble a lot.lol |

Jacob Webster International Cooperation | I agree that Luna's mom was more...normal. I hate to use that word, but I don't know how else to describe her. Experimenting doesn't make one as crazy as Luna or Xenophilus. I experiment with things - not spells, obviously, but the point is the same. Besides, Snape experimented with spells. (We all know he's not the most normal person now...but as a teenager I've always imagined him to be more teenager-normal.) |

Samantha Rose Magical Education | That explanation for what happened in the book really is rather vague, definitely leaving a lot to the imagination. Since Luna was a witness to it we can only speculate what she might have seen, but iti definitely makes us all feel a special bond to Luna for having to endure that tragedy. It's no wonder that she is close to her dad, he's all she has left, after all! Despite everything, she really knows the true value of family, far more than most. |
