A polished oak desk, located behind the study tables, sits in the center of the library. A few low shelves contain books that have been returned or books that are on hold. Behind that desk, sitting upon a stool, is the librarian, head bent over a few rolls of parchment or a book.

As you approach, Madame Kohan looks up and greets you with a warm, friendly smile. “Good day. How may I help you?” She is eager to assist anyone; whether it be retrieving a particular book, giving recommendations, or perhaps even sharing a story or two with a student or colleague.

Rian smlied as she stepped up to the front desk and saw Madame Kohan. She heard Jenn's question, and thought about answering her herself. Rian loved the books here. Almost every single one that she'd read, she'd loved. But instead she just listened quietly, because she had to ask Madame Kohan a question, too.

Ludo stepped up to the front desk, holding his book. Madam Kohan still wasn't back from delivering the Hufflepuff girl to the Hospital Wing so he waited. He opened the Potions book and read the foreward in the silence that followed.

Madame Kohan gave a warm smile of welcoming to the young Ravenclaw that stepped up to the desk inquiring of a good book. "I might be a bit prejudiced on that subject." She chuckled, catching a glimpse of Rian at that moment.

"Perhaps Rian could be of greater assistance than I. She's quite active in the library and I'm sure she knows of a number of books that would interest you." She indicated the girl's fellow Ravenclaw.

Taking notice of yet another Ravenclaw...goodness, they certainly were getting a head-start this year...Madame Kohan beckoned him forward. "Oh hello again! I wanted to say thank you again for offering to help earlier. I do believe Ravenclaw deserves five points for keeping a cool head in such a situation." She looked down at the book that Ludo was holding. "Care to check that out?"

Ludo looked up from his book as Madame Kohan returned and called him up to the desk. He grinned as she said hello and thanked him for his help. "Yes hello! No problem at all Madame Kohan. I never leave someone who needs help."

Madame Kohan then awarded him 5 points. Ludo's grin broadened even more. "Thank you! I take them with House pride!" he stopped, "My apologies Madame Kohan, I'm Ludo. Ludo Snicket."

He set the Potions book on the desk at her request. "Yes. I bit of recreational reading before the challenging stuff begins. O.W.L. year, you know."

Rian blushed and grinned at Madame Kohan, then at Jenn. "Well, I don't know," she said with a laugh, "But I'd be glad to help!" It made her feel good that Madame Kohan would reccomend a girl in need of a good book to her.

"That's certainly good to know. I hope that you keep that attitude." She replied with another smile. It was certainly nice to see someone willing to help others.

Grinning as the Ravenclaw enthusiastically thanked her for the addition of points, she nodded once. "Nice to meet you Ludo. I do hope to see you in the library quite a bit in the year to come."

Picking up the book on the desk, she flipped open the back, tapped it with a quill and then closed it again. "Back in two weeks." She requested. "Oh, yes, the O.W.L.'s are quite a challenge, but you seem to be getting a very good head start."

"Wonderful!" She exclaimed, returning Rian's grin. "And if you still aren't sure, then you're welcome to come by and ask again. I'm sure I can find something."

Ludo took the book back from Madame Kohan. "Oh I don't doubt it. I'll try to be a regular visitor. Mostly for the peace and quiet. Thank you for you time!"

He grinned and headed for the exit, tucking the book under his arm. He decided to head back to the Common Room next.

Livvy walked towards the desk. "Hello Madame Kohan. Hi Rian," she said, as she set a few books down on the desk. "I'd like to check these books out please," Livvy said, smiling.

Jenn smiled. "That would be alright with me!" Jenn said turning to Rian.

Jenn thought she could jump for joy. "All right then. Let's go and find a book!" Jenn said turning and hugging Madame Kohan then following Rian towards the books.

Miranda went up to the front desk, the book she wanted to read in her hands.

''Hello, I wanted to check out this book please. I wasnt sure if you had to inform before borrowing it... she frowned "although now that i think about it it sounds silly, ofcourse you can't just take the book...what if someone stole the book or something..." she rolled her eyes at herself coming to this conclusion.
Snapping out of her conversation with herself she said "Yes, i'd like to check this book out...please" she smiled at the lady behind the desk holding out the book

Madame Kohan grinned at Ludo as he promised to try to become a regular visitor. "I'll look forward to seeing you then."

With a nod in response to his thanks, she turned her attention to the next person in line.

"Hello, dear. How are you today?" She inquired as she reached for the books. It was always so nice to see such cheerful faces in the library; instead of disgruntled ones when they were forced to be here.

"Of course." Opening each book, she tapped the back with her quill; then slid the books back to Livvy. "Two weeks before they must be returned." She reminded.

As the young Ravenclaw agreed to enlisting Rian's assistance in finding a good book to read, Madame Kohan smiled and leaned slightly against her desk. Moments later, however, she moved backwards a bit as the student quickly hugged her before dashing off behind Rian.

Well, that was a surprise! With a chuckle of amusement, for she had never had a student hug her before, Angela followed the girls' progress for a few moments before pulling out her quill once more as she noticed yet another student step up.

With another smile as this newly arrived student began to somewhat ramble about the topic of borrowing books, Madame Kohan waited until she was finished before speaking.

"Of course. Just one moment." Picking up the book, she tapped the back cover with her quill and watched as the end of it sprouted a small paper. Ah. Time to get a new one.

Giving an apologetic smile towards the Hufflepuff, Angela reached behind her, slid open a drawer, and removed a quill almost identical to the one she had placed on the counter. The only difference was that it was red instead of gold.

"Here you are." She said, handing the book to the girl after properly marking it with the new quill. "Happy reading!"

Miranda craned her neck as Madame Lady Librarian took out a quill and did something to it...or to the book.
She smiled back at her, still looking very curiously.

When the lady handed Miranda the book back, she grinned and said ''Thankyou!'' taking the book and before skipping away she added "Have a nice day!". She left the library hoping the book would help her in one way or another.

Ludo entered the library. The familiar sounds and smells rushed to meet his senses. He breathed easy.

Finding no other students at the desk he stepped up and said brightly, "Hello Madame Kohan. How are you today?...I do hope things have been...uneventful here." He smiled, slightly.

He took the book out of his book on recent developments in potion brewing and set it on the desk, removing his bookmark from the back cover. "Just returning this today. An excellent read."

Rian looked around happily as she stepped up in line. She was holding her St. Mungos book tightly in her arms, waiting for her turn.

Livvy smiled. "Thank you! Hope you have a pleasant day," she said as she accepted her book and waved at Madam Kohan. Such a nice woman. Livvy then stuck her nose into her book as she walked off.

Madame Kohan smiled in response as the students bid her a good day and thanked her. "Goodbye! Hope to see you soon!" She waved to both girls, watching both with a satisfied smile as they left.

"Ludo!" Madame Kohan exclaimed with a grin. "I'm quite well, thank you for asking. And what about yourself? Classes not stressing you too much, I hope."

Managing to suppress a chuckle as she noticed Ludo remove a bookmark, for she did the same, she picked up the book and set it down behind the counter. "I'm glad that you enjoyed it. Potions are quite fascinating in how you can mix together certain ingredients and with careful brewing, create amazing potions."

Noticing Rian behind Ludo, she beckoned her forward with a smile. "Hello, dear. I see you've found something that caught your eye?"

Rian nodded to Madame Kohan, a smile lighting up her features. "Yeah, I've been looking for books on St. Mungo's, because I think I want to be a healer when I graduate," she said as she sat her book on the desk. "And I'm sure this is the first one of many that I will be checking out of the library," she added with a laugh.

Ludo smiled at Madame Kohan's pleasant welcome but even more from the fact that she'd remembered his name. "I am glad to hear it. I'm doing well, thank you." he said.
She asked if he was stressed out yet. He grinned again thinking of the Charm work he'd just completed. "No, no stres yet. At least none that would earn me a bed in the Hospital Wing."

Madame Kohan began to talk about Potions. "Yes Madame it is amazing. It shows how such small things can lead to such huge outcomes....I'd bet fifty galleons my mother could list over a hundred...hmm...results...I've had with my potion brewing at home." he laughed.
