Part of the Headmistress' job was conducting interviews for open staff positions... and this term, Annie had quite a few interviews to conduct. Not only did she have to replace two of her deceased professors, but she also had to find replacements for all the jobs held by her departing staff members.

And Merlin knew how many jobs Vindictus had had. Sighing as she settled into her pink desk chair, Annie pulled a stack of parchment closer to her and gave Gingersnapple's head a rub. Yes, the fat orange cat was indeed back in the castle. Good riddance to whoever interviewed with her. If they knew what was good for them, they would mention how much they loved cats.

First up? The Deputy Headmaster job. And Joesphina Hadley was first on the list. Annie jotted her name at the top of her parchment and then set the quill up on its point and charmed it to write her thoughts as the interview went on. Then she called out, "Come in!" in case Hadley was here.

Which she should be, as it was time...

Bunz made no open response to show that she'd even so much as heard Callie for a few moments, as she digested the answer, and then she nodded. "Self-awareness and knowledge are some useful things," the redhead seemed to agree.

On to another question, then. "Where do you SEE yourself in ten years, Callie?" Get it? Cos she was a SEER? Har har har.

"being Deputy Headmistress certainly would be a nice addition to that future." she added with a slight chuckle, her bangles janjling as she touched her hair.

Hmm Annie couldn't tell if the blonde had caught on or not to her little...pun...there, but no worries. If she wasn't going to be offended, Annie wasn't going to push the envelope on offending her. Heh.

"You don't have any personal or private goals, Calista?" she pushed the question a bit further. "Of course I understand that you really want this position, but I'm concerned that you might be TOO focused on your professional life.... we want well-rounded staffers who can connect with the students, after all...."

She smiled kindly ~~or fakely~~ at the other woman and reached over to pet her cat again.

She had been under the impression that this was a professional interview for an open position, she didn't know she needed to tell the woman her personal goals. The blonde wasn't very keen on opening up to this woman but if she was going to be labled as not being a well-rounded staff member...

Annie nodded and waited for the answer. Personal goals, yes. Surely she had them? Even if they were as simple as...oh.... taking a trip or predicting lottery numbers or increasing the number of bangles in her jewlery collection.

And ah, there they were. "I have a son, yes, he is my pride and joy and the only child I will ever need in my life," Annie declared proudly, scooping a framed photo off her desk and passing it across to Callie. "I um," she paused as she tried to figure out all the possible MEANINGS behind the blonde's so serious answer, "I'm glad to hear that you're... on the right path now?"

Awkward. Maybe this young blonde was not right for the deputy position after all... still, she would keep her in mind. "Regarding the position," she switched back to the reason they were there, "do you have any questions for me? Regarding it?"

Seren had arrived early. Perhaps too early... and had been sitting in the waiting area for a reasonable length of time. She sat, waiting patiently for Callie to depart, but soon grew impatient.

Heels clicking, she took the opportunity to meander about the space, observing the nick-nacks as she went. She stopped, just short of the door to Annie's office, surely it wouldn't be much longer, she could stand.
She began flipping through her portfolio to pass the time and to ease the nerves.

Seren closed her portfolio as Callie exited from the office. After giving her a warm smile and nod in greeting, she took a moment to gather her thoughts and take a deep breath. Well... this was it.

"Good day Headmistress, I trust you've been well?" she greeted as she closed the door behind her. She had been about to call her Annie... but, at the present time it didn't feel appropriate. Seren's knuckles were white from gripping her portfolio, and after taking some measured steps she stopped in front of Annie and placed it on the desk before her.

She'd never done this before. The whole profiling and skills statements. But she figured she'd done a half decent job of it at least.

I can work with teachers, students and parents to resolve issues and implement individual education programs as well as enhancing student experiences and learning. I can work to develop and implement curriculum, and monitor student behaviour and assist in representing the school and modelling desired values and behaviours.

My interest in the position stems from my core values in providing students with a safe and secure learning environment and ensuring that the academic principals of the establishment are upheld. Leadership

❖HoH
Over the years I have exhibited leadership qualities through my role as Gryffindor Head of House. In this role I have performed a number of administrative duties as well as taken responsibility for a quarter of the student population and have endeavoured to motivate and inspire them. In this role I have offered student s support and guidance academically as well as socially by supporting them in extra curricular activities and reinforcing Gryffindor House pride and spirit.

❖Supervise Prefect Event Planning
Other examples of my leadership at Hogwarts has been the supervision of a successful Prefect Event. In this role I supervised students as they planned the event, offered them advice where possible and appropriate.

Initiative & Extra Curricular

❖Herbology Task Force
Through planning, structuring, introducing and implementing the Herbology Task Force, students have been provided with an opportunity to work in teams or as individuals in becoming socially aware of the importance of wizarding ecological sustainability and practising and reinforcing numerous herbology skills.

❖Attend and support Gobstones, Quidditch, Duelling Club, School Events
Over the years, I have involved myself in numerous aspects of school extra curricular activities and whole-school events. I have supported all students, not just those from my own House, in their participation in Gobstones, Quidditch and at one time, in Dueling Club. I believe it's important to unite all houses through their passions and interests while still promoting friendly competition and encouraging and modelling good sportsmanship.
In recent times I have led the planning and implementation of the Hogwarts Founders Fandango celebration. I was responsible for managing a team of staff to organise and support the event as well as partaking in the supervision of one of the event games. Other activities I have been involved in include dancing lessons, where I assisted our groundskeeper/dance teacher in modelling the activity.

Management of Resources

❖Greenhouse Allocations
I have years of experience in managing school resources and allocating funds in an appropriate and effective manner. Such examples may be seen in the Herbology greenhouses, where much of the resources acquired have been purchased with Herbology funds through wholesalers and private contractors. Seed, bulb and spore supplies have been acquired through international contacts which have led to the further diversification of greenhouse flora. Ferlisier have been largely acquired from within the school such as Abraxan and Hippogriff dung. These initiatives cut costs and school spending which in turn allows the school to invest in other projects and acquire more resources. Herbology produce have also been used to stock other subject areas where possible.

❖Use of Outside Organisations
In my time at Hogwarts, I have used my relationships with other organisations such as SATUS to assist in acquiring resources and imparting valuable knowledge to students. I have used this to reinforce teachings on sustainability, environmental degradation and our role in the greater wizarding community, locally, nationally and internationally. In working with such organisations, it provides students with an opportunity to get involved and feel as if they are making a difference in the world. This is a motivating factor in teaching and learning and engages them through a mature outlook on issues and stimulates their thoughts in relation to problem solving.

Community

❖Wizarding World Community
By building a sense of community through our partnership with SATUS and through the Founders' Fandango festivities of 2076, the students at Hogwarts have developed a heightened awareness of the world around them. In celebrating the school as a whole as opposed to emphasising the divisions between Houses through segregation and competition, we have become much closer. Strength and excellence lies in unity, and the students and staff at Hogwarts have exhibited both qualities on numerous occasions.

❖School Community
During my time at Hogwarts, one of my key aims has been to become a part of the school community by supporting and participating in activities with the students. This allows me to strengthen my rapport with them and be viewed as an approachable member of staff. By being a part of the activities and events within the school, I am able to reinforce the notion of school community by example. Such instances include the Founders Fandango as well as the Ministers Snowman Competition and Quodpot.

❖Academia
With the intention of furthering my career, engaging in academia and reaching out to the greater Wizarding community, I have endeavoured to share my knowledge and my passions in herbology and teaching.

She settled back into her cushiony seat and flipped it open, taking her time to read while Seren helped herself to some refreshments. She read and she read and by the time she finished, she was making a pretty darn impressed face.

"Wow," the redhead actually commented, setting the portfolio back on the table. "I'm... impressed, actually, with the thought and careful consideration you put into achieving this position." She allowed the other woman a rare smile and picked up her teacup. "So tell me, Seren, why do you want this job so badly?"

The Cliff notes face-to-face real version, if you would. She'd read the well-worded polite version, and until now, had had no idea the Herbology professor was so... ambitious.

"It's quite simple really. I love teaching... I love this school and I value each and every one of the students that pass through these doors. I feel that this is the next step for me, in ensuring that this school, under your leadership, thrives and that students are provided a safe environment in which to excel." She paused here.. not quite sure if she was voicing her intentions as best she could. "I want to be a part of this schools legacy..." Yes, legacy... that is what it was all about. Knowing that you've been a part of something significant, something long lasting, that you helped.

She had a feeling Gaellen had never offered tea and biscuits to people HE interviewed for Hogwarts jobs. Tut. Just another reason why she was the better HM.

She settled back into her seat and nodded along at Seren's answers, seeming to agree with everything the other Herbologist said. She particularly liked the bits about 'under your leadership' and 'safe environment.' Also of note was the word legacy... which caused Anastasia to sit up some.

"I like where you're going with this," the redhead encouraged her to go on. "What would you want your legacy to be, Miss Bentley? You already have an impressive roster of achievements here..." Published author, head of house, professor....

She had a feeling Gaellen had never offered tea and biscuits to people HE interviewed for Hogwarts jobs. Tut. Just another reason why she was the better HM.

She settled back into her seat and nodded along at Seren's answers, seeming to agree with everything the other Herbologist said. She particularly liked the bits about 'under your leadership' and 'safe environment.' Also of note was the word legacy... which caused Anastasia to sit up some.

"I like where you're going with this," the redhead encouraged her to go on. "What would you want your legacy to be, Miss Bentley? You already have an impressive roster of achievements here..." Published author, head of house, professor....

She had almost allowed herself to giggle as Annie too, repeated herself. It was just one of those moments she supposed. Hoping it wasn't an awkward one.

It felt strange, being interviewed again. When she'd visited this very office for her interview with Tate, she wasn't the least bit nervous, and yet she still felt more comfortable at this present time. That was, perhaps, a testament to Annie's personable nature... to some degree.

Seren smiled before taking another sip of tea, her throat had a tendency to shrivel like a fig under pressure, not that this was pressure. This was, going better than she had anticipated, she only hoped it would finish on this high note. Her legacy? ... HER legacy.. in all honesty, she hadn't considered it to be part of her own, not really... more of a ... whole-school legacy, and having a higher position would just be a bonus. Though, she supposed...
"My legacy... is to be the best person that I can be. And I know that I have more to give to the school. I want to be seen as... a significant part of the success of Hogwarts, to be remembered by staff, students and parents alike for years to come." Something which she hasn't quite achieved just yet. Head of House was one thing, but Deputy was a whole other can of worms.
"This position can open doors for me, it would provide me with opportunities to make a difference and above all, it would provide me with new challenged and new journeys which is important for self-improvement."

"Well that sounds perfectly admirable, Seren, no wonder Gaellen chose you to lead Gryffindor House." Annie smiled again and raised her teacup to her lips for a little sip. Boo, it was growing cold. "I think there are many ways to serve Hogwarts and to ah, etch your name into history books for ages to come, ways beyond just being a deputy." However, that said, she was still one of the strongest candidates interviewed thus far.

Seren continued to sip her tea, actually taking the time to savor its sweet flavour and soothing aroma. She placed her cup back on the saucer, and considered what Annie was saying.. other ways to achieve that. True, perhaps... but nothing else seemed to motivate her as much as this role. At any rate, if she was unsuccessful, then there would be other options...

Areas to improve. Now this is something she had given a great deal of thought. "Well, firstly... and I think this is fairly obvious... is the safety of the members of the school." She was certain Annie understood this. What with losing two staff members to a plant... a stunning plant... but never the less.
"In my time here at Hogwarts, the lives of students and staff have been threatened on more than one occasion. I realise that, Hogwarts, has always seemed to be under this.. curse, of sorts, but I do feel that there are more measures we could be taking to ensure situations, much like our previous term, do not occur again."
There was more that they could be doing, and personally she would feel a great deal more comfortable if these issues were addressed.

The school OBVIOUSLY had a curse of some sort on it... she herself had debated asking Callie to give the place an exorcism, if she thought the Divination professor capable of such complicated wandwork....

"I agree," the redhead said. "Last term was such a tragedy, really, between losing that valuable plant..." she trailed off with memories of the gorgeous, exotic gift she had initially thought was from Ethan... its silky green leaves... friendly, long vines... bright pink flowers... oh and who could forget that heavenly scent? But to finish her sentence, "...and losing two of our staff members. What a shame."

She let out a fake sigh and then snapped back to business, folding her hands crisply on the desk. "So how do we fix it? What else can we - you and I, potentially as the administrators of this school - do to increase the safety of our students and to decrease the occurrence of these weird semi-annual events?"

"Yes... a tragedy..." that was a god word, a sad word, but an appropriate one. After all the death and all the destruction she'd seen in her time, particularly in her area, this was something high on her list of priorities.

Seren had been expecting the next question, it was the most logical way to proceed. How could they, fix this.
"Well, see... I've been thinking. I know it's practical for staff to patrol the corridors at night, but our efforts are largely expended on ensuring students aren't doing the wrong thing, and less so on other possible threats..." the ones that seem to just blend in to the untrained eye.
"Perhaps, depending on the schools budget and additional funding, we could acquire security personnel. Someone who is trained for the job."

Casually raising her teacup to her lips, she took a quick swig. "That aside, it probably wouldn't hurt to get someone to look into this.. curse thing, whatever it is. The number of incidents that occur at Hogwarts is not normal.." at all... "A historical inquiry might be of use... and if it's planned right, then the students could also learn a thing or two in the process."

Hmm, that was a good point. The staff usually was more focused on catching students in the midst of their wrongdoings instead of focusing on catching the possible threats OUTSIDE the castle. Interesting.

"I also like the idea of a historical inquiry... perhaps that is something the Deputy Headmaster or Headmistress could lead, no?" She was picturing a focus group of both students, staff members, and historians going through all the files in the library... heh.

As for her final question... "I think we're nearly done here, Miss Bentley," she smiled amicably. "Just a few more questions. What do you, personally, see the role of Deputy as being? What sort of tasks would you put yourself in charge of, if you were my #2?"

Hearing Annie... not disagree with her was greatly reassuring. It was a clear indication that she was not making a fool of herself. "Absolutely, I'm sure the experience would be valuable to the students, after all, there's nothing quite like putting theory into practice." And history was one of those irksome subjects with little room for practical learning.

Interlocking her fingers, Seren placed her hands on her knees. Almost over, either time was flying, which was probably the case, or this wasn't as long as she'd expected. Now it was time for end game. This question had the potential to ruin her chances of acquiring the position. "My role, primarily, would be to assist and support you in any way that I can... but more specifically... tasks I would undergo on your behalf would include sending out letters to first years as well as welcoming them to the school, escorting them to the feast... keep students informed by posting any announcements you deem important for them to be aware of.. assisting you in the management of resources, parents point of contact and paper work." She paused here for a moment, other tasks, "... and of course to act in your position should you be away or unable to fulfill your duties."

Was that it?

No.

Of course, "Not to mention the implementation of the historical inquiry.."

There... that, summed it up... maybe.

In all honesty, she was a little nervous about her question and what worms it might dig up. What if Annie was looking for something completely different to what she had to offer? Or perhaps what if she was missing a crucial quality for the role? ...

She'd been holding her breath without realising it, but as Annie slowly responded, she felt her chest expanding as air was carefully inhaled once more. To her relief, there wasn't anything of great value that she'd not addressed, so, in her point of view, this interview had been a success.

Standing, Seren took the headmistresses hand and gave it a gentle but somewhat excited shake. It must be the adrenalin. "No, thank you for the opportunity, this has been a valuable experience. I look forward to hearing from you." Because, she would hear from her, even if she didn't get it, right? Surely.

With a last smile, and a respectful bow of the head, Seren left her position at the desk and headed for the doors. Now it was out of her hands... but she had a number of things to consider, so she wouldn't be anxiously awaiting a formal response.

Dash had arrived early enough to see Seren enter the room, which was completely fine. He preferred being incredibly early than being late for anything. He was dressed to impress of course, and his hair was not exactly perfected, but it was much neater than its usual state.

While the other candidates may have been nervous Dash sat, cool and calm, with a thin small black folder in his hand. There was absolutely no reason for him to be nervous. An ex-Hit Wizard nervous over a simple an interview? Ridiculous. It was either he got the job or he didn't. One choice would benefit Anastasia and the school, and the other choice would just be silly.

His eyes flickered toward the door as Seren left and gave her a small nod. Standing up, Dash entered the office, with not a care in the world.

"Headmistress Truebridge." A thin smile crossed his lips as he made his way over to her desk. See he was being all polite too!! To think this was the woman who's coin purse he had almost stolen.

Aww, such nice parting words from Seren. And she seemed excited, too, which was as she should be. "Same to you, dear," Annie shook her hand back and showed her to the door. She had just re-taken her seat behind the desk when in came her next candidate for the job.

"Dash," Annie greeted the man who was already familiar with the office...and its password, apparently. She debated between giving him a formal handshake and all that and instead just gestured for him to have a seat. "Tea or coffee?" The redhead leaned over to give the pot a rap with her wand so it would warm up.

"Tea please." Taking a seat in the chair that she gestured to, Dash glanced at the red head for a few seconds. He was trying to be good, professional, but he couldn't help but smirk. "You look well rested. As if you aren't about to have a mental break down anytime soon. I'm guessing the time away from ghosts have been good for you."

Ghosts. Man eating plants. The whole lot really.

Remember the folder in his hand he placed it on her desk. She could open it or not, either way he'd bring it up. It held only a single sheet of paper, with a few neatly written things.
