The fire was back in Mrs. Henry’s eyes. She had responded for Pascal even before the girl could try to understand his words. “I’m not going anywhere, mister, whoever you are,” her tones were brisk and business-like. “Anything you have to say to your 'Miss Beyoncé' can be said in front of me, or it can’t be said at all.”

Devon looked at her, expressionless. For a moment, Pascal thought he would say something, but he didn't. Instead, he turned around without a word, his handsome figure growing smaller and smaller until it had vanished completely in the distance. Mrs. Henry grunted.

“Don’t you talk to strangers, Pascal,” she suddenly sounded tired and exhausted, an old lady looking forward to her rest. “It’s not right. I wonder who he was though. Very – nice looking.” She blushed at her own proclamation, and hurried back into the house.

Only Pascal noticed the tiny card dropped at their gate.

Was she furious, or was she just exhausted, worn-out by her meeting with Devon? Maybe, she was both.

And, maybe, she was also heartbroken.

Ordering another butterbeer for herself, Isha let her fingers drum their way across the rim of the glass table at The Baron’s Hut. The place seemed small, but mainly because it was always so full of people, young and old, all clustering around the glittering counter and the polished chairs. A man in orange eyed her, and she gave him a look cold enough to freeze water; he instantly looked away.

He hadn’t given her a chance, a chance to prove that she was not as selfish as she had seemed at first. He had never trusted her, and she had been stupid enough to believe that he did. She had really fancied they would end up married, at one time.

How wrong she had been.
