The building was asleep, and so were its inhabitants. Isha stifled a tired yawn as she fumbled in the pocket of her robes for the key to her room, and opened it from outside. It was past midnight, and she had expected Sandra to be fast asleep but, to her surprise, her roommate was wide awake.

“Lots of work?” she asked sympathetically. Sandra sat behind the study table, a pair of lamps switched on.

“No,” Sandra’s voice was flat and odd. Isha thought there was something strange to it, something that wasn’t usually there – something that was never there, actually.

“You okay?” she asked uncertainly.

Sandra nodded. “Perfect,” she got up, and walked over to the switchboard, switching the main light on as Isha closed the door and locked it. “I just found something of interest.”

Isha looked up, perplexed. “I don’t get you, Dra.”

Sandra held up her document.

Isha raised an eyebrow. “So what?” The words had barely escaped her mouth when she realized what Sandra meant, what Sandra was trying to tell her.

“Sandra, it was in –”

“– Your suitcase, yes.”

With a howl of fury, Isha leapt towards the suitcase, only to see it magically sealed again: Sandra had probably resealed it after she had been done with it.

“WHAT ELSE DID YOU SEE?” The exhaustion had left, and now Isha sounded aggravated, like a wild animal who had been stabbed in the back. The howl of rage seemed to shake the walls.

“Something you seem very keen to hide, Isha, even from me,” Sandra replied curtly.

She held up the photograph, and Isha collapsed into her bed.

For some reason, I love being called 'Bad Maxie.' *huggles you*

Awww, hunny, it wasn't offensive at all. I mean, we don't celebrate Christmas either, but it's never wrong to join in the fun, is it? So the question was totally natural.

“Pascal?”

Mrs. Henry’s voice was sharp enough to take Pascal by so much surprise that she jumped almost half a feet into the air. “What?”

“That fool of a boy you met on your steamer,” her aunt growled. “What did he look like? Did he have light brown hair? Brown eyes? Amazing ones?” She looked ready to bite.

Pascal quickly shook her head. “N-no, Aunt,” she managed to stammer. “His hair was black. Grey eyes.”

Mrs. Henry looked at her, long and hard. “Promise me you’re not lying.”

“I promise, I promise. Now stop looking at me like that and tell me what the matter is.”

Her aunt continued to look at her, and Pascal held her gaze to show that she really was speaking the truth, and nothing but the truth. Her aunt broke eye-contact only when she had satisfied herself that her ward wasn’t lying, and even then with a grunt of discontent.

“Because there’s someone here to meet you,” she said acidly. “And he seems a darn sight nice.”

Shaking her head, Sandra watched Isha as the girl sank into bed. Eyes eyes reflecting her disbelief, she glanced at the picture again.

That familiar, handsome, smile, one that just about any girl would die for, and those eyes – Intoxicating, and deep.

And dangerous.

She looked up, incredulity never leaving her eyes. Isha could conceal things - sentiments, events, just about anything she wanted to - but Sandra had never suspected this, not even in the wildest escapades of her imagination.

“You still care,” she whispered quietly.

Suddenly, Isha was herself again: furious and snappy, and yet self-composed. She drew herself to her full height, and snatched the photograph out of Sandra’s hand.

“He didn’t understand. He still doesn’t understand. I wouldn’t have left him if he turned into a beggar, if he lost a limb or two. I swear I wouldn’t have. He was different for me. He still is.”

She was saying things she had never said, and Sandra knew by her tones that she was not lying. Wrapping an arm around Isha, Sandra brought a comforting hand to her cheek.

“I’m sorry, Ish,” she said quietly. “I’m so sorry. Then why Sirius Black?”

Isha looked up, eyes suddenly ablaze.

“Because I’m not going to waste my life sobbing for a jerk!” she spat and, before Sandra knew what was happening, she had stormed out of the room, her steps furious.

Could that possibly be Devon? =O
