Okay, I said it was coming ... and here it is! Again, thanks so much for everyone's patience and understanding. I love you all so much! It's a bit short and probably not the best, but that's sorta what happens when I come out of a block. So, bear with me! he he
Edit: This is my 1,000th post! ha ha I know ... pitiful! LOL But, I'm excited ROFL
Chapter Twenty: Coming To Grips With Reality
Kildara woke up to the sound of someone knocking on her door. She sighed, sat up in her bed and called, “Come in it’s open.” She held back a groan when Regulus came in, holding a tray of breakfast.
“Good morning Kildara. How was the ball last night?” he asked happily, placing the tray over her legs. “You look stunning as usual.”
Kildara raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow at him, and raised her hands to her hair. She was surprised to find it was falling in the same silky curls it was in last night.
“Thank you Regulus. The ball, well, it didn’t end very good. But it was okay. What did you do last night?” she asked, patting the bed next to her, motioning for him to sit.
He looked at her, his eyes wide in surprise then sat down carefully on the bed.
“I sat around here playing board games with the house elves,” he sighed heavily. “I beat them all.”
Kildara had a sudden pang of sympathy towards the boy. She smiled at him and patted him on the shoulder. He looked at her, rather surprised by that form of physical contact.
“I’m sorry. You’re just not old enough yet. I suppose I should get to know you. Seeing as we have to get married,” she said awkwardly.
Regulus’ eyes widened even more. Something was wrong. She was softening him so she could get him to do something for her. And, knowing Kildara, it wouldn’t be good.
“Mhm. I suppose,” he said, even more awkwardly.
She smiled at him. “It’s ok. I mean it. I’m trying to be nice. You should be honoured. I don’t talk to people very often.” She finished her breakfast and handed him the tray. “Thank you. You may go.”
Her usual cold distant tone was back, making Regulus almost jump off the bed and run out of the room.
For the last few days of the holidays, Regulus avoided Kildara, like his life depended on it. Eileen had to persuade him to go with them to the station, and had to physically pull him out of the car. Kildara strode into the station and through the barrier to the platform, her head held high. She put her things on the train, then smiled as a pair of massive arms engulfed her in hug.
“Mum says be home in time for dinner,” Crabbe laughed.
Kildara smiled happily and hugged him back. “Hey love. How was the rest of your holidays?” she asked, as Crabbe broke away, leaving one arm around her shoulders. She left one arm around his waist as they walked off to find the rest of the troupe.
“Oh you know. Boring as usual. Mum never stopped talking about you. I think she wants a girl,” he said thoughtfully.
Kildara laughed and shrugged her shoulders, which was actually very hard, considering she had the weight of Crabbe’s arm slunk across them. They found the rest of the troupe near the end of the train, standing in the usual circle. When they spotted her, everyone came over to give Kildara a hug, even Narcissa. The only one that hung back was Lucius, just in case he was tempted. Even from a distance she was intoxicating. Narcissa walked back over to him, slipped her hand into the crook of his arm so her ring was visible and smiled up at him. He smiled weakly back then looked at the floor. He didn’t know how Crabbe had her staying in his house and left her alone! Kildara and Crabbe joined the circle, asking everyone about their holidays, etc. Kildara looked once in Lucius’ direction, only to find him looking up at her. She gave him a small smile then went back to her conversation with Avery. The train whistle blew and they all scuttled onto the train. Finding a compartment wasn’t hard, the one right at the back was always free, people avoided it because that was the troupe’s compartment. They all settled in and continued their conversations. Narcissa managed to keep her new husband’s attention practically the entire journey, which was a first. Kildara and Crabbe seemed to be getting along very well. They sat together, talked together and laughed together for the whole train journey. People were giving them looks but they didn’t seemed to notice. Everything was going well, until Narcissa spoke.
“So, Kildara. How is Josh?” she asked innocently.
Kildara choked on the sip of water she’d just taken, and dropped the chocolate frog in her other hand. Josh was the only boy in her life that had ever dumped her. But she wasn’t going to admit to that fact.
“He - uh - We - uh - We decided it wasn’t going to work. What with not being able to see each other and everything,” she replied, after taking a few deep breaths, with Crabbe’s hand on her back.
Everyone looked at her with a slight bit of pity. Lucius looked guilty and Narcissa looked slightly angry. Now Kildara didn’t have anyone to distract her. She looked at the way Crabbe was comforting Kildara, and smiled. Maybe, just maybe, she’d get them together. Than Kildara would have someone other than Lucius to think of.
As the train slowed and came to a stop, the troupe gathered in the corridor, the crowd parting to let them through, as they always did. But the group looked different this term. Instead of the two Slytherin Prefects leading, it was Kildara and Crabbe at the front, the Lucius and Narcissa behind, then the rest. At the Feast, Lucius hardly looked up from his meal. He kept his head down, rubbing his left forearm every now and again. Kildara shot him curious looks, but he didn’t respond. She had to talk to him. They had a Prefect meeting after the Feast, she’d talk to him then.
The Feast dragged on. Kildara seriously didn’t think being back at school would be so hard. She was bored. She was angry. She was annoyed. She was confused. Hogwarts used to be her sanctuary. Now, everything about the place was just puddles of confusion. She had no idea about anything. A few times, Crabbe put his arm around her and pulled her to him, asking her what was wrong. She just replied with a simple, “Nothing”. When the Feast finished, Kildara and Lucius said goodnight to the others, and walked down to the meeting room behind the Great Hall. They sat through the meeting in silence, and left in silence, although behind everyone else. When everyone else was out of earshot, Kildara tugged on Lucius’ arm, making him stop.
“Lucius, what’s wrong?” she asked, concern written all over her face
He looked up at her. Into that beautiful face that had got him into so much trouble over the years. The angelic face of the devil of a woman he loved more than anyone in the world. The one girl he couldn’t have.
“Nothing’s wrong. What makes you ask that?” he lied. When she gave him a look of annoyance, he sighed. He should have known better than to lie to Kildara Snape. That girl had powers to rival Voldemort himself. “I’m confused by everything, that’s all. Nothing I can’t work out by myself.”
Kildara sighed, and pulled him into a hug. “Let me help. Please,” she pleaded, a tear escaping her eye, burying her face in his white-blonde hair, her tears sinking down onto his skin. He wrapped his arms around her, an unbelievable need to protect her overtaking him. “I don’t know how you can help,” he admitted.
She raised her head to look at him, her eyes almost clear, and liquidy from the tears. “Please, let me help. I feel so alone. Please, Luc, let me help,” she half sobbed.
Lucius sighed, kissing her forehead softly. He heard her whimper softly, making him sigh again. his was all too hard. “I don’t want to give you up. But, I know now you’ll feel second to Narcissa. I don’t want you to feel like you’re any lower than my Queen. But, I can’t give you that anymore. And there is no way Narcissa will let us spend any time together, at all.” he said, letting go of her again, to look at her properly. She looked like a shadow. She looked thin and vulnerable. Not as bad as she used to look, but she was definitely heading that way again.
Kildara nodded, tears still cascading from her eyes. “Josh dumped me. The only person in my life to do that. I’m so lost. Oh Lucius. Hold me,” she pleaded.
Lucius sighed, bordering on tears himself, sliding his arms around her and pulling her to his chest as tight as he could, be still amazingly gentle. She broke down into sobs in his chest, soaking the front of his shirt, her hands clutched to his chest, his arms tight around her shuddering frame, his chin on the top of her head.
They stood there for what felt like ages, until Kildara calmed down enough for them to walk back to the Common Room. When they reached the dungeon room, they found that the rest of the troupe, including Narcissa, had gone to bed. Lucius sat on the couch, pulling Dara down beside him. He wrapped his arms around her, and kissed the top of her head softly, making her burst out crying again. He cradled her, and calmed her, stroking her hair softly. That hair that seemed to have lost it’s shine. Everything about her seemed to have lost it’s glow. They just sat there, until they both fell asleep, and they slept til morning. | |

I know there was chapters where she's crying and stuff, and she got depressed etc, but this one was just an onslaught of emotion, I cried as I was writing it.
