Love Kildara xxxx Chapter Ten: Some Time to Think
"Lucius," Kildara breathed, jumping up.
"Malfoy," Josh said, inclining his head slightly.
"Simmons," Lucius said the smile still on his face.
Josh kept a hand on Kildara's back, determined not to let her go.
"Why are you here?" Kildara asked, desperately.
"I got your owl," Lucius said, holding the piece of parchment in his hand.
"You can't have read it. Artemis would have only just got to you."
"I'm a fast reader," Lucius laughed.
"What do you want, Malfoy?" Josh remarked.
"Apart from you to leave, it's actually none of your business."
"Well-," Josh started.
Kildara put up her hand to stop them. They both fell quiet immediately.
"Luc, why are you here? I will not ask again," Kildara hissed a part of her old self back again.
"I need to speak to you," he replied. "But not in front of him." He nodded in Josh's direction.
Kildara looked around to Josh, who had a hand on her shoulder. He shrugged. "I'll go." He leant in and kissed Kildara passionately. He broke from the kiss and whispered in her ear. "But I'll be back."
He got up off the bed and turned on the spot, Apparating from the room. Lucius closed the space between him and Kildara. She could feel his body heat seeping into her. She put her hand onto his chest to push him away but he wrapped his arms around her waist. Then he kissed her, making her head spin and her knees weak. He broke the kiss, a large smile on his face. A slight smile spread across her pale face and she looked up into his face.
"I have missed you my dear," he said kissing her forehead. "Now I can answer you letter."
She broke away from him and sat on her bed. He sat next to her and looked at the letter.
"Ok. First, my holidays have been dismal and annoying. Second, I had an alright Christmas. Third, Mother and Father are fine; they are not as pleased with Narcissa as they thought they would be. They miss you as well. Fourth, 'dear' Narcissa is fine. Fifth, my letters never stopped. I found only yesterday that my letters were being stopped by Narcissa. Sixth, Narcissa has not changed my feelings. Seventh, Congratulations." he took a deep breath and continued. "Can I see it?"
Kildara nodded and held her arm out. Lucius looked as though he was going to cry. He looked almost rejected. She pulled her robe over her arm and looked at him. "You will still join me in the summer won't you?"
He nodded. "Why couldn't you wait?"
Kildara was shocked. "You can't just deny the Dark Lord, Luc. When he summons you, you go." He looked at her, confused. "Bella came to me and took me to him. She said he was eager for my service. He summoned me, Lucius. I had to go."
He nodded, understandingly. "It's okay. I understand. Father said this would happen. That you would get chosen first. That my marrying Narcissa would hinder me. Not my fault though. If it was up to me, I wouldn't marry her!"
He laughed and Kildara's smile widened, colour returning to her hollow cheeks. Lucius noticed this slight change and said,
"What has happened to you these holidays? You are but a shadow of the magnificent women that I went to school with."
Kildara hung her head. "A lot has happened."
"Talk to me." Lucius took her head in his hands and made her look at him. That colour that had returned was gone, her eyes glazed over.
"My father died at the beginning of the holidays. He asked for me so I visited him and we spoke about everything. I was just beginning to think of him as my father and he left me. While I was with him, he died. Then I met Josh. Then your letters stopped. Then I started on Eileen's stash of Firewhiskey. Now there is none left. Then Bella coming to get me. Then Eileen disowning me for becoming a Death Eater. It's just been a hard holiday. Severus has been my rock. He has been so helpful."
Lucius looked at her and noticed she was not the same girl he said he loved. He needed that girl. He needed her strength, her smarts, her love. He didn't know how to help.
“How can
I help you?” he asked desperately.
“Love me,” was all she said.
He took hold of her and hugged her to his chest. He felt her start to shake. She had started to cry again. He lay back on the bed and she snuggled into him. He tightened his hold on her and tried his best to stop her crying. All of a sudden she stopped and tried to move away. He kept his arms around her, confused.
“What’s wrong?”
“I can’t do this, Luc. I can’t,” she said, writhing, trying to free herself. “Josh,” she whispered.
Lucius let go of her. They both sat up. “You told me your feelings hadn’t changed. You told me you loved me. Are they just words to you?” he hissed.
She started crying again. “My feelings haven’t changed. I do love you. I will always love you. The words match the feelings. Feelings I have never felt before. I don’t even love my parents, my brother. I don’t love easily, Luc. You helped me to do that. I have to distance myself, Lucius. You will be married in the summer. We cannot do this.”
He took her shoulders and shook her slightly. “I love you, Kildara. I will never love Narcissa. Even when she becomes my wife.”
She took his hands off her shoulders and stood up. “Please Luc. Do not make this harder for me. Just grant me some time to think. That is all I need. A few days. Please. I promise I will owl you in few days to talk to you. I won’t even see Josh for those days. Does that make you feel better?”
Lucius stood up and kissed her on the forehead. “Okay. A few days. I look forward to your owl. I will leave you now. I love you,” he said before turning on the spot and Apparating from the room.
Her door opened slightly and Severus stuck his head in. “Can I come in?”
Kildara nodded and Severus walked in and sat on his sister’s bed. “Did I hear Lucius’ voice?”
“Yes. He responded to my letter a little quicker than I thought.” Kildara sat down on the bed next to him and he slung his arm around her shoulders. She leaned in and rested her head on his shoulder.
“What did he want?”
“I don’t know exactly. Mostly he told me he loved me. Oh Severus this is all too hard.”
Severus hugged her and said, “What did you tell him?”
“That I needed some time to think about everything.”
“That’s a good idea,” Severus replied, hugging his older sister tight. He felt like the older sibling at the moment. Her life had run off the rails. He felt sorry for her. He looked at her arm. The Mark was pulsating. It looked as though the snake was alive. He was proud of her. He wanted to make her proud. He needed to get her better before they went back to school. She couldn’t go back like this. Some
time to think was a great idea.
