Hermione Discussion #9: Role in Deathly Hallows

Deathly Hallows is finally allowed in discussions on SS. Whether you hated the book or loved it everyone now has a solid opinion on Hermione. But what did you all think of Hermione's role in the book? This is a general topic so feel free to go into detail or stay vague. But please remember to keep it Hermione and Deathly Hallows related.

I think this book did Hermione Granger total justice. We have been waiting for her to step up in a big way, and I think JKR did that perfectly with Hermione's character for the last book!

Obviously, Hermione has been brilliant since book 1, and we have loved her...and been annoyed with her...for it for ten years. But, in this one, I think everything we knew about Hermione surfaced in the best way possible. Without her, there was no way Harry would have survived.

Hermione used her intelligence to her (and the boys') advantage in this one. Where both Harry and Ron lacked in magical technique, Hermione more than made up for it. With her absolute brilliance, she protected them through enchantments, transported them through skill, destroyed the Cup Horcrux (with Ron's help), and brought their Ron back through pure love. She knew, as JKR said in an interview post DH, that Ron held the Trio together. While Ron was gone, Harry felt distant from Hermione. Hermione knew...and sobbed for weeks about it...that Ron needed to be there. If she hadn't spoken his name, he wouldn't have come back.

Yet, she, like a good girl, wasn't so lenient with her true love. Though she was obviously ecstatic that Ronald came back, like he always wanted to, she wasn't going to let him off the hook so easily. She didn't hold back and told him everything that he needed to realize about himself before thinking of forgiving him.

She is basically superwoman with bushy hair, and Deathly Hallows only solidified this. That is why, I believe, that she deserved to live, to marry the love of her life, and have children with him. She deserved a happy ending just as much as Harry and Ron.

She is a true heroine and role model. She proves that the strongest power one needs is a good heart and an intelligent brain with a good head on your shoulders. She's brilliant, and she's amazing!

I thought Hermione was great in DH. I'm not gonna repeat everything Shannon said, because I agree with everything! She proved in this book that she has more than just brains, she has the will to act in a tough situation. I was completley satisfied with her part in the last book.

Yeah, those are good points. She is always getting the other two out of sticky situations, which were plentiful in DH.

I really loved HR's character in DH.
She kept a level head and for once didn't
discourage Harry from things that needed to be done.
She was extremely supportive,
even though she was going through some emotional trauma
with the whole Ron leaving scene.
I wish JK would have described a little more
of HR in the 'Battle for Hogwarts' though ..

This monkey is bananas.

I must say when things were rough she kept a loose head and apologized when Harry's wand was broken. It takes a lot of courage to do what she did, pretending to be someone diffrent during that part with the Snatchers, and also when they were in the Malfoy Manor, she was so strong and brave, taking the full brunt of the attack from Bella.

I must admit I'm envious of her. She finally did the right thing and kissed her man! I was thrilled when I read that; I knew from the first chapter she was in they would get together, but not like that, it was...amazing She's finally a young woman showing her true feelings.

She showed immense trust in everyone she knew she could trust, and in the end she fought so hard you could tell she was a powerful witch.

Basically I agree with everything Shannon said and more!

I feel as if it wasn't entirely her fault that Harry's wand broke. I felt as if Harry blamed her too much. She was trying to get them out alive. Nothing could of been done.

I liked how she was a little bit more mean in DH. Like, how short she was with Ron, and then she ended up kissing him. I was really shocked when the locket showed that Ron thought Hermione and Harry would end up together. I felt so bad for Hermione when Bellatrix tourtured her in the Malfoy Manor. That made me sad, and the way Ron was yelling for her and all, that made me almost cry. But I liked her in the epilogue, because she sorta let Ron rub off on her, so by the epilogue, they were a little more alike.

Hermione in the last book really proved herself in everything that she did. THere wasn't anything that she technically "lacked" unless you wanna count Ron .

She kept her head the whole time, although I think she could have done a better job at lying to the Snatchers, thats probably something that will never change about her

Hermione was pretty much perfect in Deathly Hallows in my opinion. She was herself, which is the best thing you can be. Plus, she proved to be the smart bookworm that we've come to know and love.

I think that the only real way that could have technically made her perfect would have been to have been to have her a better liarer

I think that Hermione's role was really the savior in this book (more so than in the others, not in this one alone), and Harry absolutely couldn't have done a lot without her, he was almost constantly being woken up by Hermione, with her saying something closely related to "Wow, Harry that was a close one". I also think that Hermione may have been at some points a reason for Ron to keep going, like seeing maybe picturing the horrible things Voldy and his followers were doing to people, to her made him keep fighting, and wanting to come back. Maybe not, but that's the way I see her in this book.

A major way I see Hermione is that she is the encourager. Throughout the book she is always trying to lift up morals. Like when Ron left, she tried to cover~up her tears, by one crying one week what Harry seeing and then trying to make it so as to not make it worse

Hermione played a very important role in the Deathly Hallows. It is her accurate planning which made them successful at last.Besides when Ron quarreled with them and left the place,Hermione was the biggest support for Harry..
