Hermione Discussion #4: Brains

We all know Hermione is the "brightest witch" of her age. But why do you think Hermione is so intelligent? Is it merely because she has a natural intelligence about her? Or is it just because she studies hard? Discuss your theories here.

I think that becasue Hermione is a muggle born she thought that in Hogwarts that only the smart of the smart get in so she had to learn more than "other" wizards.

And after she found out that she was the smartest she was under the pressure of keeping the grades up.

And also I think that she like to be the smartest!

I'm sure part of the issue is that Hermione did like being the smartest, so she was under pressure to keep her grades high. She's an only child, and most likely got a lot of attention from her parents so she wanted the same treatment at Hogwarts. This doesn't just go for Hogwarts, but any school, where it's the "dumb" students and the "smart" students that get the most attention. The just okay, or average, students just get overlooked.

Some of it is natural intelligence, because even in real life, we all know people that are just natural geniuses. However, I feel that it was more than that... Hermione is a muggle born witch, so she doesn't have the same background other witches & wizards had. She doesn't have parents that do magic at home, and because she got accepted to Hogwarts, she feels she needs to remain in the school by keeping her grades up. She has the right motivation as well.

^^ Yeah that is also a reason.

BUt another thing is becaue she is the only one (girl) in the trio that probably plays a role as well. She probably feels as though if she were to slack off her grades then Ron and Harry would care even less *as if that is possible ()*

I think that she wants to make herself the smartest to show that a muggle-born can beat a "pureblood."

I think it's because Hermione is so facinated with being a witch that she doesn't take it for granted and wants to be the best. Some people are like that. And I admire Hermione for it.

I think she's just a natural, and I think she might just have been so interested in the magical world that she learns everything possible, maybe it's just habit from a super strict muggle school she went to, the world may never know. Dun

Maybe natural but I think she want to have the best eduaction she can have and she is only child and she may want to make her parents proud... the older posts pretty much say what i think...

Usally when you are an only child all the hopes and dreams of paretns are placed on you.


With her being really smart it probably make it easier for JKR to make it Hermione to find out how the Basalik was getting through the castle, the Time turner, etc. So she had so much more stress on her and can handle more things than an avgerage student.

To thik of it yea. See if you think about it the trio has like their different job. Harry is the brave one and Ron...well we hav diffrent words for him so i don't know,but anyway Hermione has to be the smart one in the trio.Without her be smart Harry and Ron would have trouble while being in Harry's so called adventures.

Still....i wounder how Hermione is so smart.

Yeah, without her nothing would ever be done; Harry and Ron would probaly fail and NEVER pass anything except DADA.

A child prodigy??? There is a theory about a lot of children that are very smart like Hermione in real life. They are so smart becuase they were in their mothers' womb longer than normal average kids. Maybe Hermione's birth was very late and she overdeveloped or maybe more mature than other normal babies...

If anyone watched Kyle XY, I am talking about Albert Einstein's theory that Adam Baylin was talking about... Anyone?

but i like the idea of the child prodigy although... it does kinda seem funny in a way. it could also be because she's a muggle so she feels she needs to succeed in the wizard world so she studies more then most people would haha or at least ron and harry. but i could be wrong haha child prodigy probably isn't a bad guess haha

I think that she is natrually smart and because of that studies alot, and also to show to people who think muggle-borns are stupid (mainly Malfoy and the Slytherins) that they are not. She might have gone to a muggle school and was really suprriesed when she got her letter so she wanted to stay Hence her studying alot to keep up her good grades

She really works hard to get good grades

I think it's probably a mixture of both. We know for a fact Hermione is alwayz at the library and such, but, to me, she also has this air of born intelligence around her.

She's natural smart, but also book smart.
