Hermione Discussion #16: Hermione as Prefect


In the fifth book of series, we learn that Hermione is named girl Prefect for Gryffindor. This really does not come as much surprise due to her brilliance in every subject (except Divination). But what would have had happened if Hermione refused the position as Prefect? How might things have played out if just Ron were Prefect or if just Hermione were Prefect, rather then the pair? How much of an effect did the Prefect position really have on Hermione's life?

I think that Hermione was the best choice for prefect by far. She took the job with no reservations, and always did her best to fulfil it's requirements. She is someone that likes to be in charge, she likes to see things done the right way and she always fight for the weak. Hermione made an excellent prefect.

If Ron was not chosen as prefect, then Hermione would have made sure that whoever was chosen did all that was required. She was soft on Ron, especially when his brothers were concerned, but she wouldn't have given anyone else the liberties she gave him.

I think she's the one that really pushed Ron to be a better prefect. If she hadn't been a prefect, then Ron would have slacked off in his duties.

Being a prefect might have helped her in taking charge of things more often. And, helped her to assert her right when it came to real-life situations. It definitely gave her the experience she needed to be in a position of authority.

If Hermione had not been prefect, then Ron would have definitely slacked off in his duties and might have abandoned them all together. Hermione is certainly the one who was dedicated to her job and pushed him to do his properly. Being a prefect was very important to her, it was kind of a fulfillment of a dream, I'm sure, and we know she was the perfect choice for the job.

Hermione as a prefect was a great choice. She made sure everything went well and did not abuse her powers. She also kept Ron in line when he was tempted to abuse his powers or not take responsibility as a prefect.
