Hermione Discussion #14: Relationship with her Parents

Hermione is one of the rare characters who's parents are not dead yet we don't really know too much about. All we do know is that both of her parents are dentists and seem generally supportive of her wizarding training. What do you think Hermione's parents are, and what is her relationship with them?

I think that her realtionship with her parents was more strong when she was little. Little is mentioned of them by her. I think as she grew older in a "different" world, they just backed off

Yeah, I think she'll always love them (as she proved when she made drastic efforts to save them in DH), but I guess when you are a witch and SO involved in this "other world," it's hard to relate to muggle parents.

I agree with you guys, I think they really support her when she's home and love her a lot, but it has to be difficult to be involved in something like the wizarding world, that you just can't be part of unless you're born to be. Like, she sends them presents at Christmas, and recieves presents from them...

Also, her parents probably really trust her in order to ledt her go with strangers in the magic world

Agreed - Hermione would have a strong bond with her parents.

Because they're dentists, they seem like very down-to-earth people - like their daughter, who is the smartest witch at Hogwarts.

As Muggles, they would have known nothing about the wizarding world they allowed their daughter to step into - however, the fact that they allowed her this implies that Hermione had persuaded them to let her. This proves their trust in their daughter, and that they want what's best for her.

They seem like tolerant people, too, when seen tlaking to Mr. Weasley upon one of their infrequent visits to the Wizarding World.

All in all, considering Hermione's attitude towards them, they seem to have a close and open bond with their daugter.
