There's a saying in show business "all publicity is good publicity". As long as it gets their names in the papers and out there for the public to see, it's a good thing. So it's very possible a publicity stunt. Wider audience and all that.

If they want that, though, it'd probably be easier to pull a Sandi Thom and just play over the net until it gets around the world.

Actually, since the Wryd Sisters didn't get together until 1990 (according to their website), Mr. Pratchett could sue them for copy right infringement.
