| | |  Wyrd Sisters continue band name lawsuit
In November 2005, a band by the name of the Wyrd Sisters tried to prevent the release of the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie when they discovered that it would feature a wizard rock group - The Weird Sisters. Though they failed, the group is at it again. The folk trio is pushing for a $40-million lawsuit and they've asked a judge to order the destruction of any Harry Potter DVDs, CDs, video games or other merchandise referring to the group's name. Quote:
"The Wyrd Sisters have spent over 15 years working on and developing the goodwill associated with their band’s name," says the statement of claim the group filed in the Federal Court Of Canada in Toronto. "All of these efforts will be nullified as the goodwill is wiped out in the tidal wave of fame associated with the Harry Potter phenomenon."

don't they know they're being just an incy bit ridiculous? it's just a name. kind of like how fall out boy's name reffeers to a character in the simpsons... you don't see the creators of the simpsons suing. they should give up while they still have their dignity. they cant destroy all of those dvds and cds and such, it's practically impossible.

This is absolutely ridiculous! It's spelled totally different...and I don't think people are mixing up a wizard rock group with a folk group...and $40 million...they can keep dreaming!
I mean seriously...the book was out with the name in it before the movie ever came out...there wasnt' a problem then...why is there one all of a sudden when the movie comes out?
Oh and by the way...Terry Pratchett wrote a book entitled Wyrd Sisters in 1988...are they gonna sue him too?

There's a saying in show business "all publicity is good publicity". As long as it gets their names in the papers and out there for the public to see, it's a good thing. So it's very possible a publicity stunt. Wider audience and all that.
