| | |  Woman breaks Deathly Hallows speed reading world record
Most people read at less than 300 words a minute, so finishing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in just 47 minutes seems impossible, right? Wrong. Just last year, Anne Jones, a mother of three, broke the world speed reading record for the Mind Sports Olympiad at a Border’s bookshop in London. She sat down and finished the 250,000 word novel by reading at a shocking 4,251 words per minute.
To prepare herself for the competition, she practiced hard any chance she had. Quote:
“I read and re-read all the previous Harry Potter books beforehand, as I wanted to become as familiar with the plot as possible,” she says.
Anne found her special talent after taking a class on speed reading. She has won seven gold medals for it in her lifetime.

Wow. Just wow, that's amazing. I wonder how they judge that kind of thing, to make sure she isn't just skimming. Do they have to take some kind of 'quiz' on what they've read?

When I read this headline, I was like, "NO WAY!!!!! I wanted to break that record!"
But then, after reading the article, I realized that she broke the speed-reading record. And that's totally different.
So she skimmed a really long book really quickly? So what! I can do it too!  No of course I'm not jealous..... Anyways, now I have a new goal in life: break her record.

That's impossible!! No one can read that fast!!....How you are sure she is actually reading I say, I may just turn pages and say I was reading and I can tell you what it is about because maybe I'd read it before!!....
welll I think I say all this because I think is impossible to read that fast!! And I was proud because I read it in one day and a half  Good for her!! Super reader...hahaha

That just seems unreal. wow.
But yeah, that brings up the question of how does anyone know she's actually reading and not just skimming like every other sentence/paragraph or not? I mean honestly it would be a hard thing to judge.
I mean, my dad told me all about his speed-reading class, where they were taught NOT to read and how to just skim down the middle of the page, pulling in words from the sides to create their own sentences and figuring out the plot from there.
apparently, in that class, they were told the point of speed-reading was not to understand, but simply to finish.

For example: The cat sat on the mat!
If you speed read that sentence your eyes would only register cat, sat, and mat
You would be able to understand the gist of the sentence and then the words flow easier. You basically miss the one/two letter words and those little joining words that aren't really important.
I read it in an hour and understood the entire book. It is definately possible!
