A witch has won subsidies from the Norwegian state to run a business of potions, fortune-telling and magic. Article:
OSLO (Reuters) - A witch has won subsidies from the Norwegian state to run a business of potions, fortune-telling and magic.
Lena Skarning, 33, won the unprecedented start-up grant of 53,000 crowns ($7,400) after promising not to try out harmful spells with her business, Forest Witch Magic Consulting.
Skarning, who owns a white cat and says she has been practicing witchcraft for 13 years, said the runaway success of JK Rowling's Harry Potter books about a boy wizard may have made society more tolerant of sorcery.
"But Harry Potter is a fairy tale and I'm not," she told Reuters Tuesday. "I'm the real thing. And now I'm Norway's only state-backed witch."
She said the government subsidy would help her tell fortunes from Tarot cards, teach magic tricks at corporate seminars and develop products like magical bath oil, water potions or face creams meant to help users have clearer dreams at night.
"The ingredients are mostly herbs -- nothing scary," she said of her products.
Skarning said Harry Potter was unrealistic. "He rides his broom backwards. Real witches ride with the brush part in front," she said.

| That is too cute. Big ups to that chick for doing what she wants to do.
Real witches ride with the brush in the front? That just seems a little goofy to me, but to each their own. It might be neat to see a quiddich match done that way, lol :sorcerer: |

| Nah, I don't think that's logical. The twigs get all mixed up when riding backwards. And the speed would be pretty low... I tried. |

| | | There's this documentary in Discovery channel, where they talked about some stuff concerning Harry Potter... and a wiccan (I don't know if that's the right spelling... ) was holding this broom and he said that contrary to popular belief... yes, witches ride their brooms - the brush part in front... that was a cool documentary, they also showed a school in England that looks like a castle, like the Hogwarts' castle but not that big though... :scarejulie: | |

| Yeah that is funny. No-one can ride a broomstick, it defies all the laws of Gravity - silly woman - but the herbal potions really do work, Ive read up on it - magic or not, some strange things are unexplainable. |

| it's not funny. The norwegian people's money is going to a woman who claims she can 'fly' with her broomstick... It's sad, actually... (I am not from Norway, but I think this money could be used in more urgent issues.) |
