Default Win a walk-on role in GoF

According to Veritaserum Courtney there was an advert on TV detailing a contest to win a walk-on role in GoF. The show was apparently aired in the US.

Quote:
This morning on the WB during their morning cartoons, a brief
commercial appeared a few times announcing a new Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie sweepstakes as part of their "NEWvember" theme. The prize is a walk-on role in the movie, as well as $2,500 worth of toys. The sweepstakes doesn't start until at least next Saturday, so I guess this was just a heads-up.
This probably means it is only open to residents of the US. Also keep in mind that most of these competitions are aimed at children so the cut off age could be anywhere between 15 and 18. We all know how WB like to assume that none of us have grown up these past 7 years.

I could bet heavy money that this will be aimed at kids *grrrr* I think I should get a time-turner and become 10 again like I was when I first liked HP. I think someone needs to acknowledge that kids grow up! LOL That was JK's intention. Read and grow. It's so unfair to alienate all the fans who are in their late teens, the ones who were there from the word go.

See, this is why I despise little kiddie fans. They get everything.

that is so true. just because older fans are overage they cant go in any comps. and WE have been there since the BEGINNING!!!!!!!!! why cant they make it older than 15? its not as if they will be able to pick out a 16 year old!! WB, shame on you.

Why is this aired in America when JK said Brits only? If one non-Brit is allowed a walk-on role, it's unfair to all the others, especially when they've written to WB begging to be in the films. And why under 15? Aren't you allowed to like HP if you're older than that?

^ Well I'm just guessing. I don't despise them, I'm just bitter because I turn 18 next year which leaves me a few months before I'm officially too old to enter anything - it's basically my last chance of ever meeting JK and well I don't think it's fair to have liked something for 7 years and then be told, sorry you're too old now like it was a crime or my fault that I grew up! lol See <------- that's a very wound up young gal!

But really another contest the other day was from anyone under 15 to go to the PoA DVD Launch. That was so frustrating! Especially since Rupert and Tom are over that age - 16 & 17.

Don't get me started on the supposed fact that 17 year olds are too old to be extras, that's just rubbish too. Especially since alot of the cast is over that age. Oh the unfairness.

-ends rant-

I think it's fair that US fans get a chance but I think stuff like this should be open worldwide.

People make the stupid assumption that being British makes it easy to get HP stuff but it certainly doesn't.

Very true... people think that being British gives you a passport to being in the films, meeting JK everytime you go shopping, etc. It's not that way at all.

I'll tell you what's more of a cheek - I wrote to leavesden and was told that all positions were filled - they must keep positions behind for contests.

I have seriously considered writing to JK and telling her how long I've admired her work and how next year I'll probably be considered 'too old' all because I grew up lol I don't think she'd want her fans to feel like they're being chastised for growing up with her books.

I agree. Stuff like this should be for everybody. Not all HP fans live in America and the UK. They should also realize that not all Harry Potter fans are kids. That's what gets me real angry. It's an all age book that's enjoyed by everybody! Let older fans get the chance to win prizes and get walk on roles. It's not like the cameras going to be on the extras 24/7. There should be no age limit for contest.

Stupid people. I'm just glad I'm still young enough to enter contest and stuff. Not for long though. But hey, I got 3 younger siblings I can enter.

I just think the fact that some of the cast of kids are reaching adulthood makes all this laughable. It's like, they can see they're growing up and so obviously the fans must be too but they just don't recognise it. Or else they don't want to.

Ah dunno. I just don't think it's very fair to alienate the fans who've grown up - and that goes for the vast majority. I don't think JK would want us to feel that way.

True true

what's unfair too is the fact that others europeans can't even THINK of getting a good part in the movies which sucks so hard

My two cousins and I was watching Teen Titians or something, but anywayz, I saw that! My cousin and I are both 12, so, we can enter.
I don't like the "Britsh only" rule, and why did I have to be American? Even though I wish I was British, oh well, Sometimes being an American is useful. (but only sometimes, not usually)
You can see how much I hate being an American (no offense) My cousin is the same way. Sorry, off topic

i completely agree!! i'm 16, so the cut off age better be 15 or i'll scream...its sooo totally not fair how they aim these contests at little kids...i mean the older fans who have grown up with Harry Potter would surely appreciate and remember the experience more..don't you think?? the last contest for POA i think the cut off age was 18 though, so I hope it will be the same here. and i am a resident of the US, so it would be perfect!! plus i'm the girl who's been trying to be an extra for ages....so i NEED to win this contest...my wildest dream would be fulfilled!!! i have to keep checking back to see when the contest is!

you seriously should! i bet she'd listen to you!! its soo not fair they aim the contest for young kids and penalize older fans for growing up...it sucks!! and its soo stupid they say extras have to be under 17...i mean come on, that's the most ridiculus thing i've ever heard!

thank you! US fans should get a chance...but i also think it should be open worldwide...i mean Harry Potter is a worldwide phenomenon!

yeah being British doesn't make it easy to get into HP, but it certainly is easier to get into it if you are British rather than if you were American or any other nationality.

How do you think I feel? I'm 5 months older than Jo herself. Don't they think adults exist in Harry's world? I mean, c'mon, these kids didn't just spring up out of the seafoam like Aphrodite -- they had to have parents!

I totally agree with you......America is an ocean away from england.Which makes much harder for us (me) to ever try to be an extra....

England isn't the be all and end all of Brits! ^^^

Being British doesn't make auditioning easier by any means, it just means the difference between being allowed to do it.

But British kids aren't always allowed to audition. Americans make the mistake of assuming they're the only people told no. British kids get told no too because of having no contacts or whatever. It's not what you know, it's who.

Grrr, i'm mad now! I've been trying to get a role in one of the movies for the past three years. Even though i'm american i thought maybe there was a small chance i could get on as an extra, i was like it's perfect because i'm the same age as most of the actors (i'm 16). I've been attending an acting and modeling school for the past year and half, and now they're just gonna offer a role to some random little kid!?

Very angry at WB cause i will probably be too old and i dont live in the US. I think that they must be stupid like most of the Harry Potter fans are like teenagers and grown ups so just give them the parts. Of course as we are older we are wiser so they maybe want little kids so that they cna trick them easily and everything and screw them around and things like that.

That would be so cool to get a walk-on role, 'cept I'm undoubtedly too old.
