| | |  Why PoA should win at the Oscars
As we previously reported, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has received two nominations for this years Oscars - Best Visual Effects and Best Music. Variety has a set of articles about the Oscars and the nominations and weighs up the chances of PoA winning an award. The Visual Effects section has the following to say about PoA: Quote:
"Potter" wowed the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences' effects branch with the complexity of its time-turner sequence and the realism of its CGI hippogriff. But the pic's crowning achievement are the digital dementors, made of fabric that floats in a way never before seen onscreen.

Why it'll win: The pic was good, and the effects get more impressive every time you look at them.
Why it won't: It's a sequel and it's perceived as a kids' movie, so a lot of Oscar voters may not have bothered to see it in a theater.
The Best Music section has the following to say about John Williams and the score for PoA: Quote:
Of the composers who remain in the race, John Williams received his 38th nom, for "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." While the score is varied and accomplished, Williams has a few factors working against him. "Prisoner of Azkaban" is the third "Potter" movie and voters might lump this score in with the others, lessening its impact. His dozens of noms coupled with his five wins may make Oscar want to give the award to one of his four competitors, none of whom has won.

the "why-it-wont" reason is totally unreasonable....just b/c his competitors hasn't won any awards previously doesn't mean the award cannot go to poa - that'd be unfair....i hope it does... i loved the music

I adored the music of POA and bought the soundtrack before the film came out just cause i knew John Williams would not dissapoint and he hasnt! I hummed and annoyed everyone with double trouble for about six months  plus the other nom is well deserved, really hope they WIN!i'm gonna try and stay awake on the night to see

i hope it wins both, i mean it deserves an oscar more than the ova nominations do. it annoys me wen a film as gd as harry potter duznt win an award, it seems 2 me that it dnt win just caz its a kids film, and thats discrimination and that annoys me wen it occurs
ok ive been going on bout discrimination  ...ill b quiet now...lol

PoA is good film but only this is not enough to won oscar. Usually the films which have more reality wins the best film oscar. At the other hand "the village" and "passion of christ" have better music than PoA but PoA absolutely best in the effects

come on it should win it is only up against i robot and spider-man2 in the visual effects nominations harry potter's special effects were so much better and they looked real. as or it being a sequel look and the lotr last year they won all the awards in which they were nominated in. for the music i think it might win but i dont know because it is up against finding neverland, lemony snickets's a series of unfortunate events,the passion o the christ,and the village but i think that it might win because the score was so much better than the first 2 movies so poa u have my support all the way

wow.... this will really bring reality to people who think that harry potter is just some stupid kiddy movie (if they win i mean)! poa has already won some awards..... but this is the OSCARS!!! yeah! i really hope they win... and i'm defiantely going to be watching it!! its just great that they are even nominated!
