| | |  Whomping Willow is 400 years old
Frithsden Beeches, a forest in Hertfordshire, England, is the home of a 400-year-old beech tree that was featured as the Whomping Willow in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
HP location managers wanted an area with “fantastical looking trees” and film crews spent two weeks at the spot. Quote:
It is well-known to film directors and location scouts having previously added to the atmosphere of menace in the Legend of Sleepy Hollow and starred in an episode of the BBC drama, Jonathan Creek, as the sinister Gorgon tree.
In 2004 alone, it is reputed to have earned £50,000 for the National Trust.
