| | | What's in & what's out for GoF Sci Fi Wire recently held a short interview with Potter producer David Heyman in which he tells us some of what's in and what's out of the ' Goblet of Fire' film and also adds that Rowling is fine with all changes made. Quote:
"Anything that doesn't really relate to Harry and Harry's journey is less relevant."
Quote:
"That's not to say that there're not minor detours. Inevitably there are. But there are certain things that we don't spend as much time with as they do in the book, just by the very nature of the material."
Quote:
The film will not deal with the subplot involving Winky and Dobby, two house elves, and the issue of elf liberation.
"It's Hermione's issue," Heyman said. "Not to say Hermione's [not important]. Hermione's a vitally important character. But you have to make some choices. ... One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works. ... The story works perfectly without [the elf story]. And we consulted with Jo [Potter author J.K. Rowling] about it, and she was fine [with it]."
That 'piece of information' I feel 99% certain is about the Gillyweed. Book fans will know in canon Dobby gives it to Harry whereas we saw set photos of Dan & Matt (who plays Neville) filming some lake scenes which seems to suggest Neville Longbottom will give Harry the Gillyweed (as Dobby doesn't appear to be featuring at all) which is in character in the sense that Neville is good at Herbology.
Scenes that have been shot include:-
* Inside the Weasleys' suprisingly spacious tent at the Quidditch World Cup
* Cemetry Scenes
* A trophy room filled with silvered plaques and cups of various sizes
* The Ministry Box at the Quidditch World Cup stadium
* A faux marble Trial Chamber, which rises several stories high
* All the three tasks for the Triwizard Tournament Quote:
Hogwart's Great Hall, meanwhile, has been redressed for the Yule Ball, a big dance that occurs midway through the movie. Every surface has been silvered, with giant icicles to hang from the beams, and a giant Christmas tree sits at the head of the space.
Quote:
"It's pretty interesting," Heyman said. "It's good. That's most definitely a different twist on the whole Potter thing. I think people will enjoy seeing the world getting bigger. I think the tasks are going to be great. And I think the kids [stars Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint] are better actors. They're just better actors, so you're seeing more nuance than you may have in the first film, and you saw more in the second and you saw more in the third."

Cool. I think what theyve taken out is relevant. A lot of people on mugglenet were moaning, saying that they have cut out too much and that the SPEW thing should be in the film. But i think everything is good.

You know I would like to see the books completly in the movies, but that's not realistic. We have to know that the movie are BASED on the Harry Potter books and are not the Harry Potter books itself, so i'm OK with the changes, as long as it doesn't change the main story line.

I loved SPEW and drunk Winky but the change isn't that big. I'm just glad it's Neville doing the gillyweed. If Kloves had got his way, I'd bet he'd have had Hermione do it.
I like the way they've cut out canon and replaced it with canon.
Heyman's a good man, in my eyes.

I'm disappointed that Dobby isn't in the film, I really like him as a character. I am also disappointed that S.P.E.W isn't going to be in it, not even hinted at in one line or anything. Like Ron could mention it or the audience could see Hermione making badges, of course it isn't the main plot but I feel it would do the film version of Hermione to be more like the book version, i.e. more of a bookworm like she was in the first film!
Anyway, I'm pleased with what has been filmed and think that if Neville is the one who gives Harry the gillyweed it'll be fine as Emma said it does fit into his character.

Heyman's a good man, in my eyes. Yeah I can see what you mean...better Neville than Hermione! Quote:

I would like to hear more about what they think is related and relevant...not saying this in a negative way ...just its interesting lol
But I think that it wasnt that important about SPEW but still one could relate to things in our world ...Because somehow we could relate to present things...thats whats so great about JK...
But I would rather see that cut then other things...

I believe the producers know what they are doing and as long it's ok for JKR I guess it should be ok for all of us...the scenes they took out or changed a little bit are ok...it's true that the house-elf thing is Hermione's business and not Harry's...and I'm also not saying that Hermione isn't important but if they have to choose between what is Harry's business and what is Hermione's business they will opt to choose Harry's business and use that in the film instead...great news once again...thanks!!!

I like Heyman`s talk. But I don`t like that The Yule Ball is "a big dance that occurs midway through the movie." The point is - I hate dancing
But the movie is going to be great!!!!!

this all sounds pretty good... i'm not really upset about not having the whole "dobby/winky" thing in this movie, because it really is not relavent and not needed. i am very excited about this movie, but i'm also still kind of "i don't know" about the whole thing. i'm just scared of how well the movie will turn out. i would love it to be excellent, because this one was my favorite book, and i will be very upset if it turns out to be not satisfactory. i have never seen any of mike newell's work, but i have faith and i hope that this turns out to be my favorite movie, as it is my favorite book. i would really love that.
i was just thinking, they're not putting winky in at all? it really isn't too important with the SPEW thing, but she is important during the quittich world cup. i mean, she is the one accused of sending the dark mark into the air, and she is important at the end when crouch jr. tells everything. hmmm... i hope they get something good to replace that.

I'd like to see Dobby and Winky in it, but I guess it's fine if they're not. I'd assume that to get it all on one disk they'd need to cut down on the more minor parts of the story.

I hope is at least presented because she is a vital part of the story...not just to Hermione's cause. And I'm glad that Neville gives him it...and thankfully NOT Hermione. I am kind of Poed that Mrs. Weasley isn't in it...and I am not sure if Percy's in it, but if Percy's not in it, I'll have a cow!!
Can't wait for the Yule Ball!

| In Love with Touz | | Lil Mikky-Mu Reading these replies, I see that Heyman is most likely aware that Potter fans are reasonable... I mean, we understand that the movies are translations, from one media to another rather than one language to another.
Let's face it, we've been lucky in what they've included up until now. Aside from Pigwidgeon and Peeves, they haven't been too ruthless.
Look at LotR. The changed some time sequences with Boromir's brother and all that, but they kept the spirit of the books alive. I think Heyman has all the right stuff to do the same for HP.
Besides, if Ms. Rowling OKs it, I'm OK with it

Heyman's a good man, in my eyes. Haha yes, Kloves probably would have done that! I'm also okay with the writers cutting out most of the whole SPEW fiasco...we won't be missing much.

Cool. It think it's a good idea to make Neville give Harry the gillyweed, it makes his character more important.

| i knew that WB would be pretty heavy with the cuts but dam!
i am still very confident with the movie, however.
we might be suffering the lack of sub-plots but the main parts are still in the movie.
i thought the whole spew plot line being cut was already public knowledge?
i think that although not all of the book will be in the movie, its nice to have something in the book you can look forward to when ever you re-read it. |
