| | | What the HBP injunction means
It was previously reported that J.K.Rowling was granted an injunction preventing anyone from publishing any of the contents of ' Half-Blood Prince'.
The injunction document can be read here - you need Adobe Reader to view it.
Technically, someone who has read the book cannot even say whether the novel has one line of dialogue in it.
It says the following in regards to fansites: Quote:
Nothing in the order bars people who haven't seen the contents of the book from speculating on what's going to happen in the plot or with the characters, or who new characters may be. It also doesn't bar discussion of material released by JKR or Bloomsbury, including the three chapter titles she released and which have been reposted in many places.
The recommendation from "the powers that be" to any forum, discussion board or mailing list is that any material which purports to be a new extract from the book or that discloses its contents, should be immediately removed as potentially infringing copyright and/or constituting a breach of confidence, and that if a moderator has prior notice of such a posting, he or she should not allow it to be posted, and may consider moderating all posts by the potential poster to ensure that no forebidden HBP material finds its way online.
The rest of the summary can be read here.

Even if you`ve read the book, you can`t even say "HBP is a book"! It is funny first, but then it makes sense in this unsafe world. |

First this order is only in effect until July 16th. It deals mainly with the two men who offered the book to newspapers and anyone else who might have what is now an illegal copy. They are prohited from reveal any information they may have discovered while the illegal copies were in their procession. They must also reveal how they obtained the copies. This order does not effect you or I after July 16 when the book is no longer confidental. The copyright court isn't going to get you if after July 16th you spill the beans to your best friend what happens in HBP. Do so before July 16th and you could have to explain how you read the book early.

Exactly, that's what's so funny/stupid. It's a technicality. But if you've read it, you know the contents therefore you cannot say ANYTHING about it, not even that it's got words.
I think I have DODO brains at the moment because i still able to understand. |

That's a given because after that, the book will be released worldwide. Quote:

In brief, if you read HBP BEFORE July 16th you cannot go around saying, "I've read and it has chapters with words in it!" because you'd be breaching the injunction.

HBP hasn't been released yet. Book reviews after it's released rarely say too much about the plot because they don't like to show spoilers.

LMAO... of course it's a book with words in it, guys. What this means is that nothing in the book may be quoted or reproduced. In other words, I couldn't say that somewhere, this occurs (if I knew it did):
Ron turned to Harry and said, "Pass the salt, mate."
Any reproduction or disclosure of the contents of the book (even of one line of dialogue from the book) before July 16 constitutes copyright infringement.
Also, moderators of fan sites are encouraged to monitor information on their sites to ensure that nothing from inside the book (other than stuff released previously by Jo Rowling or her publishers) is publicly reproduced on their sites before July 16.
Hope this clears it up.

*Fan procedes to punch reader and stomp off muttering.* ^ I was just thinking that. I can understand why she did that whole thing about the person reading it not being able to tell anyone. It's a great idea. I don't wanna know anything about the story till I read it for my self. My cousin keeps telling me that if she get to the part that says who the HBP is first she's going to call and tell me. I keep telling her I wont pick up the phone.

I think that JK did the right thing. There are so many crooks out there. But I am glad that it will be lifted after its release. I am definitely going to be discussing it with my friend, who is just as crazy about Harry Potter as I am. Only one month to go! Yay!
