| | | What makes Potter films British The Guardian has an article in which they define what makes a film 'British'. Harry Potter is referenced as a film funded by the US but made in the UK.
It is also highlighted that last year (2004) the British went to the cinema more frequently than at any time since 1972. They also note that British films were 49% more popular at the cinema in 2004 than in the previous year, according to a report from the UK Film Council. This is partly due to the 2004 release of ' Prisoner of Azkaban' and the fact that there was no Potter film in 2003. Quote:
Harry Potter comes into the fourth category: those part financed by the US but made in the UK, and with British cultural content.
A spokesman from the Film Council said: "It depends on your politics on film. You could be brutal and say that Harry Potter is made by Warner and all the box office revenue goes back to the US. On the other hand, looking at the upcoming Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, it has a British cast, crew and director, and is shot in the UK, and every penny spent during its making is spent in Britain. It is a Hollywood picture but is quintessentially British in its cultural content."

I guess I've always kind of seen the Harry Potter movies as UK movies. Just cause most of the actors and actresses are British. And the spokesmen from the film council is write, everything is pretty much done in Britain.

| Interesting news... Sometimes I regret that they cast almost only British actors, because it happens that there's someone perfect for a HP role and he/she is American for example... |

I thought they were British as well...Gee, I guess the big WB symbol in the beginning should have told me otherwise, I just now realized that! My grasp of the obvious is slippery at best.

Even though its made by WB, it's a british film to pretty any fan who sees it. When you watch it you don't think, "This is financed by the US, but it made and directed by a British director and all british cast, so then is it a British film or a US film..." to all whose concerned, it a British book so its a BRITISH film.

I think the WB and Hollywood are getting too much credit. Nearly everybody in the movie is british, including producers and director and its NOT filmed in US so yes it is a british film with HELP producing it from the WB. They should give more credits to the british people and its hot cuz i love the british accents hehe.

I can't believe so many people didn't know Warner Brothers was American, but still they've made very British films which I'm glad.
