| | | Warner Brothers drops HD-DVD, opts for Blu-ray
Warner Brothers has recently made a decision to release their DVDs in the Blu-Ray DVD format rather than in both the Blu-Ray and HD DVD formats as they had previously been doing during the long-lasting format battle between Sony (Blu-Ray) and Toshiba (HD DVD). The change will take place at the end of May 2008. Harry Potter fans can imagine how this decision might very well influence their shopping for DVDs in the next few years, in regards to Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows. Quote:
With Warner Brothers' backing Sony's Blu-ray, high-definition format now has about 70 percent of the DVD market locked up.
Hollywood's squabble over which of two technologies will replace standard DVDs skewed in the direction of the Sony Corporation on Friday, with Warner Brothers casting the deciding vote in favor of the company's Blu-ray discs over the rival format, HD DVD.
Mr. Barry Meyer, Warner Brothers chief executive states that "We’ve been monitoring the situation with consumers for a while now and they have clearly made their choice. We followed."
Toshiba, Sony’s rival company, have been putting quite a bit of effort to lure Warner Brothers to their side, and get them to release their DVDs in the HD DVD format. Quote:
In a prepared statement, Toshiba said it was "quite surprised" and "particularly disappointed" by Warner's decision. "We will assess the potential impact of this announcement with the other HD DVD partner companies," the company said.

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

is always my laptop..

| Sweet.
But I don't have Blu-ray either...
But I got a new computer in the summer so I think it'l play Blu-Ray. I'd love to try that out now that I think about it...
But I got the Order of the Phoenix on DVD (two-disc special edition... in Walmart), so I don't mind. I just hope I won't have to be the one getting a new system if the next two movies will all be only Blu-Ray. Then I'd be sad... (cause I'd have to rely on the computer and then I won't be able to watch the movies in the early morning hours )

Don't worry kiddos. Eventually we will all have Blu-Ray DVDs when they become afforable. Back in the 70s when it was Beta vs. VHS they were expensive too until VHS won out and was able to drop their prices.

| I don't have Blu-ray and I can't afford to get a player either, so hopefully they'll release standard DVDs too. |
