| | |  Visually impaired kids can watch PoA
The Associated Press has a touching article about children who are visually impaired who are now able to watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (and hopefully more films) thanks to a special CD that lays narration over film soundtracks. Quote:
Giselle, who is sight-impaired, can only make out vague shapes of light and dark. But thanks to a special CD that lays narration over film soundtracks, she and a theater full of other sight-impaired people were able to enjoy "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" at the Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica on Sunday.
"It was great," said the 10-year-old who laughed out loud at one point during the film and couldn't stop smiling afterward.

Dan Walker, co-founder of the Sight & Sound Foundation said as many as 13 million visually impaired people in the United States could benefit from the technology, adding he hopes more Hollywood studios will add the narration to their films just as they now do with foreign languages.
"I think because of the additional cost involved, (television networks and film studios) have been resistant to embracing audio described narration," he said. "We hope to promote an increased awareness about its existence."
