Videos: LEGO HP and Deathly Hallows video game at e3 Expo; EA Games studio visit
Warner Bros Games had a display set up for the LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 video game at the e3 Expo videogame convention currently taking place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. I was able to shoot some video footage of the game in action, which includes Harry and Ron dealing with a troll in the castle, Ron running Scabbers through a maze and Hermione, Ron and Harry running around the Great Hall alongside several ghosts – Grey Lady, Fat Friar and a few members of the Headless Huntsmen club – with Hermione casting various spells, including one where she nails Professor McGonagall. (Note: I had to mute the sound as there was excessive noise from all the other video game exhibits as wells as the massive crowd.)
The LEGO trio can be seen in hi-res here in our galleries.
EA Games, makers of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows video game, also had a booth at the convention where I was able to capture some video of Harry fighting off Snatchers and Dementors at an abandoned nuclear power plant.
Additionally, EA Games recently invited SnitchSeeker out to their studios in Guildford, England, for a fansite preview of the Deathly Hallows video game. We learned that, in the game, you play only as Harry, as he tries to protect himself, Ron and Hermione from Snatcher and Death Eater attacks. Harry doesn’t actually kill any of the attackers in the game. He just hits them with spells and when they get near death, they apparate away (as is evident by their turning into black smoke in the video above). Harry is able to cast the following spells: Stupefy, Confringo, Confundus, Wingardium Leviosa, Protego, Expecto Patronum and Crucio (although the last spell is weak as Harry’s heart isn’t really in it). He also has his Invisiblility cloak and Peruvian Darkness Powder, as well as various potions he can use to power himself up for a battle, such as Polyjuice potion, the Elixir of Life and Felix Felicis. The game makers told us that they took a bit of a departure from the film and book by creating a grove of smaller Whomping Willows for Harry to contend with - the idea being to create a sense of constant peril for the trio, as though they were being attacked at every turn. The trio also must face Inferi, trolls, Dementors (also seen in the video above) and various other creatures. There are also side games to play outside of the main game, such as trying to get into the Ministry undetected.
The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One video game will be released sometime near the film’s release this November. There is no preorder available for it yet.
The LEGO game, which will be out in the U.K. next week (June 25) and in the U.S. the following week (June 29), can be preordered in various formats at the links below:
I don't know whether I'll buy it or not though as the "3-point-shooter" thingy isn't nearly as awesome as learning spells and exploring ;P I guess I just really liked the first 6 games!
