Well I was excited, until casting and storyline news began to come down the pike. There are some of us who are fans of the books first, movies second. I fall into this category, so for me, the unpleasant dread I feel is more than justified. I don't speak for everyone, but I think the films have become progressively worse since Prisoner of Azkaban...chopped to the tiniest of bits, with essential stories and plot to the septology just scooped out with a big melon baller, and bits that aren't in the books and add nothing to the story whatsoever being shoved down our throats. For instance, we get Bellatrix thrown everywhere she's not needed, and an attack on the Burrow that's not warranted. In the meantime, the entire story of Voldemort's family, the introduction of the new Minister, Tonks and Lupin's entire romance plot, all of that has been thrown to the wolves, no pun intended. POA gave us the corny shrunken heads and more or less left out the entire backstory of the Marauders. GOF perked up things a tad, but we're not shown the split with the Ministry, the whole Crouch subplot is shunted to maybe half a page, no Dursleys, etc. And don't get me started on how badly mangled and mashed up OOTP is. A travesty of Titanic proportions. So if there are some of us who are more than just a tad apathetic these days when it comes to the films, I think we have good reason to be. I cannot for the life of me understand how JK can put her stamp of approval on this mishmash of disparate elements that are supposed to resemble something she's poured a good portion of her life into. And if she thinks the films are fine as they are, then she's turned me into one disappointed, cynical "fan".
