Video: Highlights, transcript from Tom Felton's Harry Potter Ring*Con panel chat
Highlights from Tom Felton's appearance at Ring*Con this past weekend have been sent over by SnitchSeeker correspondent demilovegood, including videos and photos of his panel discussion about his work in the Harry Potter series, and a transcript from parts of the chat, including a question she got to ask herself. That can all be seen and read below.
demilovegood: What scene [in the Harry Potter films] are you most proud of and why?
Tom Felton: Wow, that's a really good question. Don't think I've ever been asked that. I'd say the one with Dumbledore. The night he dies. Because you get to see a different side to Draco. And for me it was great working with Helena, Michael and Alan. I really hope some of their acting rubbed off on me! So yeah, I'm really pleased with that scene.
Q: How was the last day of shooting at Harry Potter?
Tom: We were very British about it. We were sort of saying ‘Thank you very much, thank you very much, thank you very much’. And we just left!
Q: Emma Watson recently revealed she had a crush on you when you were younger, did you have a crush on her too?
Tom: No, I wasn’t having any crushes. But I quite fancied Helena Bonham Carter. Yeah, who was playing my auntie. So it was a little bit weird.
Q: Was it weird portraying a father with his son during the epilogue of the Deathly Hallows? And how was it collaborating with Bertie Gilbert?
Tom: Good ol’, Bertie! It was a lot of fun, yeah. It was very strange actually. It was almost ten years on since I was the child being put on the Hogwarts Express, so it was very strange for me to be putting on my son on the train. It felt like my life had flashed before my eyes. It was great fun. Bertie was a wondering son. I had him for three days, and then I gave him back to his mum. Bertie did a fantastic job as Scorpius. I was privileged to be his father.
Q: You know he’s a famous YouTuber now… Have you seen his videos?
Tom: I have, I have! Great talented actor and very good editor! He’s a very good editor. I was blown away. So yeah, props to Bertie!
Q: I was wondering if you’ve already seen A Very Potter Musical where your character walks around in diapers and rolls on the floor a lot?
Tom: I think she did a better job than I did! I think I was miscast. Is it Lauren Lopez? Lauren Lopez should’ve gotten the part, really. She did a marvelous job! It was very cool. I’ve only seen bits of it, I haven’t seen the full 3 hour production. But I was very impressed with what they did. And it seems to have spread around the world like wild fire. It’s one of the best things about Harry Potter, that it has inspired people to do their own artwork. Whether it’s actual art, whether it’s music, whether it’s other films or writing their own novels, or their own twist and turns of the Harry Potter characters. Which can be a little strange. But it’s wonderful that they felt inspired!
Q: If Team Felton came into your house, what would they find in your fridge?
Tom (laughs): You want to come into my fridge? Q: No Team Felton wants to look into your fridge!
Tom: Oh I wasn’t prepared for fridge questions, I should have taken a look into it. There is some ordinary stuff like milk, pancakes and beer
Q: If you could ask your fans a question, what would it be?
Tom: Why they came to be a fan, to share about their fanworld and What’s in your fridge?
Q: We are at RingCon which started as a Lord of the Rings Convention. Do you like Lord of the Rings? (Mark Ferguson - the moderator - warns him to give the right answer)
Tom: Of course! I watched the first one just before “Rise of the Apes” because of Andy Serkins and I am very excited for “The Hobbit”
Q: How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
(Tom does not understand this question, so it is explained for him)
Tom: I guess 18 is a great age, so I think I would be 18, you can already drink and drive then! But don't drink and drive at the same time, that's not a good idea. Don't drink and drive!
Q: Do you have any bad habits? Like having your hands in your pockets that often?
Tom (laughs): That’s considered as a bad habit? Mark: In Germany it is as it seems Tom: Oh well, yes, then I have a bad habit with having my hands in my pockets very often. And sleeping in! Is sleeping in a bad habit in Germany? I am sure it is! Germany is weird with bad habits.
Q: What was your favourite TV Show when you were little? Really litte!
Tom: Really little? Let me think. The Simpsons? What was yours? Q: Ducktales!
Tom: Yeah! Ducktales was great! And Looney Toons! (he told of something more but we don't remember! Sorry!)
Wow that was really a never asked question, thanks lovely!
Q: We know by now that you like Lush bathbombs and Molton Brown soap but with what do you wash your hair?
Tom (smiles): Ehm…shampoo? No specific shampoo actually, but when I had blonde hair, I had to use special shampoo and conditioner that my hair won’t fall out! Now I always use the cheapest shampoo, guess that’s a male thing.
Q: What’s the weirdest thing you ever ate?
Tom: The weirdest thing? Oh, I haven’t got a very strong stomach so I don’t eat many weird things. But when I was in South Africa I ate antelope, ostrich, which I didn’t like and crocodile! Crocodile actually is like chicken, so you can also eat chicken.
Q: Does Timber share the bed with you?
Tom: No! She doesn’t sleep in my bed. I am very strict with this, you have to be strict. She used to sleep in dog beds but she always destroyed them and I found this cellular material of the dog beds in the whole house , so now she has a part of the couch to sleep on.
Only once she was allowed to share the bed with me. We were stuck in France one night and stayed in a very cheap hotel and she was so scared, I let her sleep in my bed. But actually she fell out of my bed that night, because I made a move with my foot! (shows a kick move)
Q: What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Tom: Ehm…get out of bed? Haha, well, I do really normal things in the morning, making tea or coffee, brush my teeth, walk Timber. I must seem very ordinary now as I really have no special answer on this. I am very ordinary
Q: Do you play music by sheet or by hearing?
Tom: mostly by hearing. I can read music but I am not very good in it, so I play music by hearing.
Q: Describe something that happened to you for which you have no explanation
Tom: Like magical things? Q: Yes.
Tom: I tend to forget about these things quite fast because they freak me out. So I have nothing to tell right now, sorry!
Q: You've grown up on the sets, so are there any hidden corners we should check on the Leavsden Tour? Maybe something you put there?
Tom: I imagined Draco carving his name in the tables. So I started doing that, and then all the other kids saw what I did so in a matter of seconds everyone was carving in the table. But I think you should find Draco in the tables somewhere in the Great Hall. And some sets I've never been too, so I'm going to the tour myself.
Q: (A little 5 year old asks) When are you releasing your next song?
Tom: Thank you for listening to my music. I don't know yet. I've just released one called Hawaii. We'll see when the next one is. Thanks again!
Q: What are your inspirations for writing music?
Tom: I got different ones. It just comes from different things. I've recently been to Hawaii and I wrote a song about that. So yeah, it depends.
Tom at a Ring convention? Funny how LOTR and Harry Potter can share a convention! Anyways he could be at any convention and it would be fine just to see him.
I'm very excited for the Hobbit too and plan on doing a trip in New-Zealand once the two movies are finished, otherwise we won't be able to visit the outside sets like the Shire!
And plan to return to London for the Harry Potter tour... once I have the money XD.

Can you please credit me for the parts of the text that I've written for my site?
I know it's just a transcript of what has been said but as recording wasn't allowed I had to write it all myself from my memory. That was quite a work...
