Video: Harry Potter actors on nicking props from set at Deathly Hallows 2 DVD launch
Back in early December, HMV conducted a video interview with Harry Potter actors Warwick Davis (Flitwick), Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley), James and Oliver Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) and Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown) in conjunction with a DVD signing at Harrod’s of London to promote the Blu-ray/DVD launch of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Warwick and Mark talked about their first auditions with Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Columbus, the group joked about feeling a bit like The Beatles when people come out in droves to see them at events, and everyone divulged what items they had nicked from the set.
Mark Williams: It’s like being in The Beatles! Jessie Cave: (indicates the group sitting there)The weirdest band ever. (everyone laughs) Warwick Davis: Imagine it. If we were a band, right, who’d be doing what? Jessie Cave: I’d be Ringo! Mark Williams: I think you’d find I’d probably be the base player. Warwick Davis: I’d be on drums, like Animal from The Muppets. (plays like Animal, everyone laughs) Mark Williams: The base player was always the one who had the van, wasn’t it? Warwick Davis: Yeah, you’re the driver. (Mark with a sour face imitates driving, everyone laughs) Mark Williams: And then playing it exactly the same way. (sour face again, imitates playing a guitar)
Warwick Davis: “Steal” is not a nice word. James Phelps: We “borrowed” … if they wanted it back for any reason they could ask us and we’d happily oblige. But I do happen to have a Weasley Wizarding Wheezes Skiving Snackbox, complete with all the kit inside. Mark Williams: This is a new one. I didn’t know you had that. Jessie Cave: I actually do have something of Lavender’s. I accidentally wore home a stud [earring]. Just one though. Oliver Phelps: “Accidentally.” Jessie Cave: It was. I forgot to take it out. I still have the pink stud. I don’t wear it. Oliver Phelps: I actually “accidentally” have a bag from the Weasley’s joke shop. I found it. It was easier for you to take something, er “borrow” something that was going to be not missed as easy. Mark Williams (to Warwick Davis): Have you got anything other than the one you admit to? Because Warwick admits to a bag of sugar. Warwick Davis: A bag of sugar, yeah. It’s really sad. I was in the canteen. (everyone laughs as Warwick mimics taking the sugar) But I have a Gringott’s galleon from the first film, and that’s when they were properly minted coins. But it is legit because it was given to my daughter Annabelle by one of the producers. Mark Williams: I’ve got one. I wore Arthur’s shoes to something, and there were two sets of shoes. Jany [Temime, costume designer] said, “It’s okay. You keep them.” Warwick Davis: Do you wear them ever? Mark Williams: I haven’t. But I’m going to look them out. They were Yves St. Laurent by the way.
Can you imagine the money that props and costumes from this film would make if anything were to be auctioned off for charity? When Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended they auctioned off a TON of cool stuff, they had to have made close to a million!
