Video: CNN Harry Potter special Daniel Radcliffe interview clips; GQ magazine preview
Previews of Larry King's special on the Harry Potter series have been released online, featuring a couple of clips of the former CNN talk-show host's interview with star Daniel Radcliffe on the finale of the series in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and how he cried on the final day of production.

"Very, very emotional," Radcliffe tells King in the clip above. "I remember I kind of wept like a child on my last day."
"The most important thing is for me to remember, it doesn't matter who would have gotten this part. They would have gotten this attention," he tells King. "When you step out of the car at a premiere and you're hit with that wall of noise and screaming, it's very important for me to remember that they would be screaming for somebody else had he got the part. It's not about me; it's about the franchise and the character, and so that I kind of have to think about a lot just to keep it in perspective and stop myself from getting big headed."
"I've had such an amazing time on Potter, and it's been such an extraordinary experience to work with...It's actually the same group of people for 10 years. You develop such close bonds with so many people it feels odd that, although those bonds will still exist in the future, it feels very strange to not be going back to work with them next year," he says.
The Harry Potter CNN special, with new interviews from Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, and James and Oliver Phelps from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, will air on the cable network Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 8pm EST/PST.
Dan also spoke very candidly with GQ magazine, recently, where he commented on a dependence on alcohol in his late teenage years - around the time of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince filming - and how much he realised the partying lifestyle made him unhappy. Dan admitted that he turned a new leaf in life when he gave up drinking nearly a year ago.

"I became so reliant on it to enjoy stuff," Radcliffe said, adding that he had also become "complacent" about his job. "There were a few years there when I was just so enamoured with the idea of living some sort of famous person's lifestyle that really isn't suited to me."
"As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn't work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully. I'd just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh. There's no shame in enjoying the quiet life. And that's been the realisation of the past few years for me."
Asked what advice he would give to his younger self, Radcliffe replied: "Don't try too hard to be something you're not."
Dan also commented on how being rich has given him a sense of security and not the option to splurge, and his insistence to not be yet another failed child actor.

He said it was his "personal crusade" to prove that child stars do not have to burn out. "If I can make a career for myself after Potter, and it goes well, and is varied and with longevity, then that puts to bed the 'child actors argument'.
"If I can do it, in the biggest film franchise of all time, no other child actor who comes after will ever have to answer those same bloody questions."
"I don't know what to do with it. I'm very fortunate to have it, and it gives you room to manouevre. But the main thing about having money is it means you don't have to worry about it. And that for me is a lovely thing."
Dan's full feature in the August issue of GQ will be released later this month.

I must admit that I'm very disappointed to hear that he fell to alcohol. It's all over the internet at the moment and I have mixed feelings because he's going to be ripped apart for it even though it's considered "normal behavior" for kids our age and everyone is doing it. However, I'm glad to hear that he fell so low that he had to give it up. I try not to judge those who decide to drink, even socially, but personally, I don't believe in drinking at all. My college classmates think I'm lame, for lack of a better word, but the truth is, it's not necessary to make the most of your youth or your life.
So to hear Dan's decision to give it up speaks volumes about his character because not many people our age would give it up. It's easy to say yes, but even harder to say no so I have to say thank you to him, because I now at least know that one of the stars that I've admired since I was young has given up drinking and it gives me hope that there are more people out there that are willing to do the same. I have loads of respect for Dan more so than ever before.

I agree with you 100%. Even though I'm free to make that decision, I'd rather be cast out of a group than to join in drinking. Most of my friends drink. But I don't consider it cool in any way. I don't understand how one can find it appealing. I hate the smell of it. But that's a different issue altogether. The aftereffect of it drinking is the main issue. I've always wondered why people would actually choose to lose control and become less alert. When you are fully aware of the aftermath of drinking and the effect that it has on your brain, then why would you knowingly choose to drink it?
That's what got me worried about Dan. Many celebrities turn to drinking due to pressure and high expectations in order to forget about their worries and feel normal. I certainly hope that was not the case with Dan. It's just that the Harry Potter stars have always been so humble and their attitude has been exemplary for kids and teens contrary to many young Hollywood celebrities, that it's a pity to lose that positive image of the whole Harry Potter franchise so easily. It only takes one person in a group to spoil it for the rest. I'm so glad Dan kept a straight head and decided to put drinking aside. It's easy to get lost in fame and lose yourself with all the money you have in hand. His life is too valuable to waste it like that. He has the potential to be a much greater star than to fall down at this early stage in his life.

While i don't dispute that Dan said this, i can 'hear' his voice. I would love a 'video' of the interview. just to hear the context in which this was said.Have GQ blown up something that was a general coment? While i don't drink, i understand alas that is percieved as 'normal' behaviour. Emma admitted in her italian vouge translation she got drunk. Rupert admiited to waking up after a heavy drinking session in a church yard.What annoys me is Dan seems to nowhave been labeled in some reports as a recovering alcholoic. whereas i get the impression he woke up to the possibility he could go down that way if not careful. Also is this the complete interview? or have GQ highlighted this part to 'sell' the full interview. Still, it's going to make for some interesting interviews for Dan while he's back in London. I bet Vanessa and Stuart are going to earn their wages as Dan spokespersons in the next few days.Who said being a Dan fan was ever boring!
I am so glad Dan has determined to put that fatal habit aside. It is probably a lot harder for celebrities to get rid of, because of the stress and in certain movies, they will have to drink and smoke in their characters. I hope Dan will always be able to maneuver through the long and winding path of an actor (and a very good actor) with the courage of a true Grynffindor.

Yeah I agree I'm not thrilled Dan has gotten labeled as an alcoholic. It could very well be that he is but I got the same impression that he realized he was getting to the point of no return as far as alcoholism goes when he stopped drinking.
I still say good for him in that he admitted he is not capable in being a "casual drinker". He technically didn't have to go there in any interview since he was lucky and never got caught in a drunken situation ( that's got to say something about the british paps versus the US ones). I can see him really being hounded by the US talk shows and reporters once he begins publicity for part 2 though. The good thing though is that from what we have seen of Dan so far, he will handle the questions about his drinking with grace and humor.

And walking at the red carpet knowing that you're an idol to millions of people it's just amazing...I'm also gonna cry like A LOT when i see the last movie but unfortunately...Everything's got an end And this magical journey has been to me the most amazing in my whole life Plus,I'm so happy he gave up drinking cause that shows self-respect and self consciousness

What he said is IMPLYING that he WAS an alcoholic. His comments about not being the kind of person who has a few drinks sort of points to that. And I think it's even more impressive that he realized his problem, and stopped at a very young age. This makes me very proud to be a Dan fan.

I commend Dan for being forthcoming in sharing something that is very personal to him, regarding alcohol. He didn't have to say anything at all. By doing so, however, he kept his power and did not have to worry about the possibility of there being somebody down the road who would have said something about it. I'm glad he was able to recognize the road he was on and do something about it. Dan is very talented, and I would hate to have seen him go down a path that could have negatively impacted his future.
I think it's great that Dan at least realized he had a problem and stopped. I can't say I'm surprised he ever got involved with alcohol in the first place; that's common with child stars growing up. What's not so common is those stars realizing that what they are doing is not right or not them and stopping. I think what Dan did showed a lot of maturity and intelligence. And I'm glad we got to hear this straight from him (can u imagine if someone else had heard about this? They would have twisted this story sooo much!!)

I am deeply saddened to hear that Dan had a drinking problem around the time of the filming of Half-Blood Prince. After reading a couple of replies, I came across one about Rupert. I never new Rupert woke up in a church yard after a night of drinking heavily! This little tidbit doesnt change the way i feel about him tho. I still love him. lol. And I hope all the Potterheads are with me when I say this, that this information doesnt change the way i feel about anyone! I love all of the Harry Potter kids! And I am very happy to hear that Dan has been sober for nearly a year! CONGRATS to Dan! I LOVE the Harry Potter franchise! This is NOT gonna stop me from loving the actors and actresses and the whole franchise. It just goes to show that everybody has a good head on their shoulders and they are not letting fame and money get the better of them! LOVE HARRY POTTER!
Its not like he was trashed on the set of HP even if he was he was professional,none the less if people start degrading Dan for his abuse of alcohol they obviously don't know how hard it is to walk away from it therefore should not judge or point any fingers!I am very happy that HE decided and not by intervention and now that HE has come out and told GQ nobody knew it before hand on top of it It was over a year ago.Good luck Dan I wish for you have a successful and happy life after the "hype"of Hp fades away but you wont don't worry you will not fade away.
