| | | Various updates at Rowling's official website
It was revealed yesterday by the New York Times that Jo would participate in a charity reading at Radio City Music Hall, New York, in August.
In her news update JK informs us that the event [' An Evening with Harry, Carrie and Garp'] will take place on August 1st and 2nd. Quote:
Tickets ranging from $12.50 to $100 will be available through Ticketmaster from May 12, 2006 at 10 a.m (which is 3 p.m. in the UK).
Telephone numbers:
212-307-7171 (New York City)
212-307-1000 (MSG/RCMH hotline)
201-507-8900 (NJ)
845-454-3388 (Westchester)
631-888-9000 (Long Island)
203-368-1000 (Connecticut)
(Limit 8 tickets per purchase)
More information on ticket packages can be found here. Anyone who does purchase a ticket will have the chance to submit questions for the authors via email.
Hopefully, both Biochemkris and Lissydove will be attending the event and will report back to us!
In her rumours update JK comments on the assumptions that the recent W.O.M.B.A.T. test was marked in a way that enabled everyone to pass. Quote:
There were many variations on this rumour, for instance, you only needed two correct answers for an 'Outstanding', one for 'Exceeds Expectations', and everybody else got an 'Acceptable'. I have also been asked whether grades were assigned at random. All such rumours are false. I wrote the examination, determined the marking scheme (which was quite complicated) and set the Grade levels, so you can take it from me, as the sole examiner, that if you received 'Acceptable' or higher you really earned your grade. Of course, this meant that some people had to fail, but what would be the point of putting you through all that work without giving you honestly earned rewards?
Jo also briefly comments on the notion that it may have been an April Fool's joke ["When have I ever been that cruel?"] *hides* and she also says that another "more advanced" W.O.M.B.A.T. will appear some time in the future.
In her diary update Rowling comments on the press reaction to earlier comments in which she stated [in the name of humour] that she was horrified to find that she couldn't find a shop which sold lined paper. Quote:
Some of you sent single sheets, others entire pads, one enterprising paper merchants sent a large stack of notebooks embossed boldly with J K ROWLING, which I might not use in public, but which are very lovely all the same. Others took a different approach, telling me exactly where you can buy writing paper in Edinburgh; some even enclosed maps. Anyway, I've now got enough paper to write several book sevens, so no excuse there.
JK also informs us that she's having house-elf difficulties....so if you send one through via recorded delivery, I'm sure she'll be more than pleased!
In her rubbish bin update ["pure garbage"] Rowling responds to the media coverage of her previous update in which she ranted about the pressures on girls to be thin. Several newspapers [none of which are we going to link to because that would make them feel important, wouldn't it?] (wrongly) accused Jo of being hypocritical, claiming that she portrays fat/overwight people as evil. Quote:
I thought of listing all the many characters in the Harry Potter books who are on the plumper side, to demonstrate what a very diverse group of personalities they are, how they include several of my most important, admirable and lovable characters, and how 'overweight' in no way equates to 'bad' in my fictional world... but Andy from Mugglenet has done it for me. Andy, I really owe you, because I've used the time you saved me to type up half a chapter instead!
Finally *phew* in her F.A.Q. section JK confirms that the plural for Horcrux is Horcruxes, not Horcri.

| First to post Anyways, why would they say she's mean? huh? She's nice! And her having enough paper now for several 7 books is funny! And I just knew W.O.M.B.A.T. wasn't a april fools joke!

Yes, it was a chapter title. But John Noe from TLC repeatedly calls them Horcri on like...every Pottercast.

Love the updates. I enjoy the fact that she points out that she doesn't give phony things to us. That we earn the marks. I for one am prouder of my Wombat score than ever before. Can you fanthom the fun stuff she does with her own kids, if she puts that much effort in to stuff for us? I bet is a great mum. She is continuely amazing me as person, she is one the people I admire most in the world. We should all go over to Mugglenet and say thanks to their Andy.

Wow. JKR was a busy woman to update with all that! And I wish I could go to NY, but alas... If I can't go for Rupert, I can't go for JKR either. |

We spent time here. We made friends here. That's a part of us.
Cause Hogwarts is bigger than any of us, of any of it's founders,
and it's going to be around long after we're gone.
Maybe we'll see our kids come here one day.
That's the thing about Hogwarts.
No matter how long you're away from it, there's always a way back. |

I think I might go to the New York reading....although I don't really read much of the other authors...but if JKR is going to be there, I'll beg. Thankfully I get back from camp August 1, and I leave August 3 for Florida...so I will have that one day in between....
I think my parents will say yes...
