New information about Katie Leung (Cho Chang) plus a new photograph of the young actress have emerged via The Mail on Sunday.
The British tabloid told its readers that 17-year-old Katie, having been chosen to play Cho Chang just a year ago, has become "a hate figure for obsessive fans" on the internet.
The following is new information revealed by the piece: Quote:
- Katie goes to a £5000-a-year Glasgow college.
- JK Rowling insisted that the actress to play Cho had to be a complete unknown.
- According to Katie's father, she had never been in a school play and went for the audition "on a whim" and is still filming in London.
The picture of Katie can be seen below. Please note that it's a tabloid taken photograph therefore she's NOT in costume, most likely she's in her school uniform.

‘It is incredible, really. I can’t make sense of it, although I know how popular Harry Potter is.
‘Katie is only 17 and hasn’t even appeared on film. No one knows her, has seen her or heard her speak, yet there are all these things on the internet. Unfortunately I know she has seen them too. She reads them all and it is a great pressure on her.
‘At the moment she is filming in London and won’t be home for quite some time. She phones me, of course, but I don’t really know much of what is going on. Katie’s life has changed overnight.
‘With these websites, I cannot even think what may happen when the film eventually comes out. In a way I’m dreading it.
‘She’s been told she mustn’t give interviews or speak to anybody until the producers say it’s time. It’s all happened so fast. She just wanted to try it.’

‘Now,’ he sighs, ‘I think she wants to be an actress when she leaves school. I am very proud of her, but it is all very sudden and all very strange, very confusing.
‘As far as I’m concerned she is still at school, except that now she is filming and has a tutor with her. She hasn’t left school yet.’

that's kinda weird, though, that people hate HER even though she isn't really Cho. And why do people hate Cho anyway? I mean, no I don't really like her, but she's not like mean or anything or hateable. Just...a girl. Just a part of the story. Why hate her so much? And WHY oh WHY hate the ACTRESS?

People have a tendency of not being able to sperate the reel from the real.
That said, I don't know if I expected Cho to look like this... of course, the scan looks a bit wrinkly any ways... I'll wait 'til a better version of a Cho picture comes out.

Makes me feel sorry for all the serious candidates who auditioned, all the ones who genuinely wanted to be in the film or were genuine actresses. Quote:

I think the tabloid is playing around with words....I think everyone just hates Cho, the charcter (but Jo wrote her character that way, so its more universal) and having to see her on the big screen in real life and not in our imaginations just make us dislike this character more. But like someone mentioned earlier...we can hate malfoy and his gang, but we don't hate the actors themselves. It is just tabloid rubbish.
