| | | UPDATED: Handwritten Chapter by JK on display in UK
The Seven Stories children's literature centre in Newcastle, in the UK, is set to display a rare handwritten copy of ' The Journey from Platform Nine and Three Quarters', the sixth chapter from ' Philosopher's Stone'. Quote:
Elizabeth Hammill, Seven Stories’ artistic director, said: “A global phenomenon, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books have captured the imagination of children and adults the world over and we’re thrilled to be displaying this work.
“Seven Stories is all about exciting and engaging people of all ages with children’s books and how they are made.
“These exhibits, kindly loaned to us by JK Rowling, will help us to achieve this aim.
“Her work will be on display amongst artistic material by a veritable who’s who of children’s writers and illustrators from the past 75 years, including Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake, Philip Pullman and Philippa Pearce – much of it never seen in public.”
A picture of the segment can be seen here. UPDATE: The Guardian now has an article up which includes more details as well as a sketch by Jo Rowling of Hagrid, Dumbledore McGonagall and baby Harry. Quote:
The drawing shows how closely the casting and make-up of actor Robbie Coltrane as Hogwarts' caretaker, Hagrid, came to reproducing Ms Rowling's original idea. The black-and-white sketch was intended for the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which introduced the oddly-numbered King's Cross platform used to travel to Hogwarts. It leaves Harry's features to the imagination - he is just a baby about to be left by Hagrid and Professor Dumbledore with the Dursley family.
The progress of the writer's thoughts is clear from the manuscripts, with sections deleted and swapped around and space boxed-off for checklists of characters - Binns, Flitwick and Sprout are professors at Hogwarts school and Auriga is said to have been intended to be the name of another.

| That's really cool! I would love to see that. What a unique addition to that exhibit! Who else can say that they have one of the original chapters to HP? |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Ottery St. Catchpole Third Year | I wish I could apparate there...*sigh* Paris is ♥♥♥ Gone With the Wind The prevalent opinion seems to be : "Wow, that's really cool." So I'll go with that and do you one better by throwing in an "Awesome, Dude!" But seriously, I'd love to get a copy of it...to compare it to the final book chapter...you know after the editors have gotten their evil hands on it and cut it all to pieces... Just to compare...I wonder what they thought to throw out or change...it'd be interesting... |
