| | |  Tolkien vs. Harry Potter
J.R.R. Tolkien has recently released a new book - The Children of Hurin - that ranks number two in the Amazon charts. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which won't be released for months, has held first place for a solid sixteen weeks.
The Children of Hurin is exactly what one would expect from Tolkien: there are wizards, dragons, and elves. The story is based off a lot of his old manuscripts, which his son put together after Tolkien's death. The book itself is getting closer and closer to Harry Potter on Amazon.com
So, the big question is: Will Harry Potter still be number one by the time the book is released - or is Tolkien catching up? Either way, fans are going to have a lot to read - about wizards, that is.

To be honest, I think Tolkien's books are quite dull. So for me It's HP is all the way!!
HP is #1!! *gets out foam finger*
I think Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will win anyway.

Yes, I'm a fan of Tolkien, but I find it rather hard to read his books. There is a lot of description that I sometimes don't want. I love his stories, but the HP books are just a lot better read.

I agree....except with JK's is a "better" read. Just cos I don't like the description with Tolkien, doesn't mean I don't want it. I'll probably check out Children of Hurin.

I'm willing to bet Tolkien's book knocks off Harry Potter ... because the last book of his was published in the 80's I think and this is supposed to be new and a story not like those evil tomes that look like books but are academic nonsense ...  I swear they really know how to kill an idea ... and Harry Potter's last book was two years ago. Not to mention Tolkien has been around longer and has more rabid fans ... it's like if a new Shakespeare manuscript showed up ... seriously.

Tolkien's an awesome author, so this is going to be interesting. I might have to get The Children of Hurin... The thing is, I doubt it'll knock DH off the top spot. I mean, one is a book written a while ago, and one is the last in a well known series of books. Hmm.
Plus, it's already out here in the UK, so I don't think the hype will get as big as it is for DH.
