| | | Snitchseeker.com presents a Harry Potter fan's dream... A Multi-Player Make-Your-Own-Adventure with Dozens of Winners and Prizes!
Here's your chance to become part of a worldwide collaboration to create a new Harry Potter Adventure! Written, voted on and chosen entirely by you -- the fans! With bragging rights and killer prizes for the winners! Plus, lots of bonus prizes will be awarded along the way to both writers and voters so everyone has a chance to win!
The Contest begins in late-August. But before the fun can begin, we need your input! Visit the new forum: The Potter Project now to discuss what kind of story we want to create! Here's How It Works:
Made possible by some amazing new software called FanLib, the contest works like a democratic "chain fanfic." Each week is a "Round" in which our moderator posts a "Mission" that briefly outlines what should happen in the upcoming scene to be created.
After a minimum number of scenes are submitted, the Preliminary Voting begins. Later in the week, a small handful of Finalists will compete in Final Voting. When the Round is over at the end of the week, a single winning Scene will become part of the story (its author gets a prize!) and a new Round will begin. This cycle repeats for several weeks until the story is complete. Then, a lucky player from among the weekly winners will be awarded the Grand Prize.
Stay tuned for more details, the contest dates, and an announcement of some of the great Harry Potter prizes we'll be giving away.
Until then, have your say in the Forums today about Your Harry Potter Adventure! |

Exactly how many are included in each pool and how often does a new pool appear? I was looking forward to the new pool, and I was ready to read twenty or so, but then after about three, it told me there were no more in the pool, is that because I've already read all the other ones in the pool previous to this pool formation, I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense to anyone, Algebra fries my brain and I can't quite tell whether or not I'm making sense to anyone but my delirious self.

There were a handful of blank submissions and some wildly off mission ones. They'll get eliminated from the competative pool pretty quickly so if you didn't see them soon after submission you never will. You can't see your own submission(s) or any you've already voted on. Those are ones you'll never be able to see again. But any others in the pool should become available to you once more scenes catch up in the "times viewed" category. Although, I'd think that the closer you get to the end of voting the less likely it is some scenes will show up as the "times viewed" limit get hit by more and more scenes and there isn't enough time left to fairly lift the limit for all scenes.

Vlad - I was lucky enough to find both of your scenes this morning. First I laughed my - er - head off reading "Queer Eye for the Evil Guy." (I also pasted it into a Word .doc so I'd have it for later.)
But I also really liked your "real" scene. I hope it makes the finals.

" Ron
I hope this is explained well I am not good at explaining things." I did put in any extra spaces at the beginning of any lines, and it formatted almost perfectly.
I just followed the instructions here: http://snitchseeker.fanlib.com/formattips.htm

| I feel stupid now, I didn't even know there was a formatting tips page, thanks, maybe now I can get it right, I really should start reading everything before I move on to the next step. That has always been my downfall.

Hi everybody,
Just thought I'd try to answer a few of the new questions... Quote: What will happen to the completed script? We'd love to see it produced or published somehow and are considering a range of options. We'll make an announcement when there's a definitive answer. But, even if it's only a script online, I think it's so well done so far that everyone who has participated should be extremely proud. Quote: Will there be another PProj in the future (and any chance of a Potter Parody Proj? That would be awesome!) We will follow-up The Potter Project with something, we just don't know exactly what yet. Sorry I can't be more definite with these answers. Quote: Also, why do scenes that I've given a 0 rating not show up on my list of rated scenes in 'my chamber'? They should. This is something we have to fix. Yes. Please look at the Formatting Tips page (see the link above). There should be no extra spaces. Writing in scene format for The Potter Project is not difficult. And, the vast majority of people are doing a beautiful job.

Right now FanLib is "The Potter Project" and is tied in with SnitchSeeker but it's obvious from the article in the newspaper (thanks bakbam!) that there are various future possibilities for FanLib.
I'd like to suggest that some sort of forum software be part of FanLib. Right now we can use the SnitchSeeker forums but it's possible that wouldn't always be the case.
I went to bed this morning (I work nights, it's not that I'm just incredibly lazy) with the "time left" box saying 10 hours. I woke up this afternoon with it saying 22 hours. A forum would be a good place to post explanations for things like that. And for the stuff we've talked about here. And people could do "self promotions" on the forum. I could see that as a place where "self promotions" would be appropriate since some folks would only read the forums after voting and others would want to read before voting and some people would be encouraged to vote based on self promotions and no doubt some folks might be turned off by particular promotions and vote scenes lower. But it would give people a chance to talk about their scene anyway. And a place for people to get answers.

I think It would be cool to find somewhere to get it published.
You could publish entire script and at the end publish all the choices that made it to the finals and maybe some other hand picked ones such as Queer Eye for the Evil Guy .That served as a great break from the norm I really enjoyed this story.
vladagain I also agree the forum is a must. If not a forumn being able to reply to the comments left on your story would be great to.

Gideon- Thanks for answering my questions. Hope I didn't sound too persistant :-) I would like to suggest that the script be made into a downloadable Flash movie; that would be awesome!
Some type of forum system would be good, but it would take a lot of planning. I think there should be a forum like this one, that simply discusses the project. A forum of additional promotion would be good, but should be seperate as I can see these becoming redundant pleas for reads. A forum for responding to comments left by readers would be nice as well, especially if there could be some sort of function inviting the readers to visit the author's page of responses (like PMs).

I am so confused, I went to vote about a half hour ago, and was told that i had already voted on everything in the pool and to check back later, at that point it said there were 13 hours left to vote, then I went back about a minute ago and it told me elections were closed. Only fifteen minutes elapsed between these two events occurred, and I'm pretty sure that I didn't get hours and minutes mixed up. Is there something wrong with the clock, or am I just dumb?

Only fifteen minutes elapsed between these two events occurred, and I'm pretty sure that I didn't get hours and minutes mixed up. Is there something wrong with the clock, or am I just dumb? you aren't dumb. The election clock has been erratic this round. Earlier today it said the elections were going to end at, like, 5:30pm (Tuesday evening), then they switched back to noon tomorrow, which would have fit with the pattern from previous rounds. Now the elections are (temporarily) closed. Remember that this is the first time FanLib's been actually used and that it's a work in progress the same as the story we're all writing. There are things they are fixing and things they are tweaking... it would appear the election clock would be one of those things.
(it's a good thing elections are ending though because Queer Eye's rating keeps getting lower... I get a kick out of the comments. Even with something as (what I thought anyway) wildly over the top as this scene some people still think it was meant seriously. And I was amazed and aghast that some people thought it was off mission... off mission? I thought I did a good job hitting all the mission points. Our critics are just soooo demanding....)

It must be a full time job for the SnitchSeeker admins to try to keep the forums on task.... I'd need a much bigger "bang head here" sign before I'd even attempt to do the job.

Vlad,
I have heard nothing but crazy awesome things about this "Queer Eye for the Evil Guy" script and it never came up for me! Could you send it to me so I can read it?
Thanks!

Sorry, we did have a little timing glitch this round. All stemming from human error actually. We'll get our processes smoothed out.
Vlad/Pixie - Don't forget, unless "Queer Eye" is in the bottom four, you'll be able to read it when the round is over by going to the Script so Far page and clicking through the Top Scenes list until you find it.

Further proof you learn something new every day.
Why do you eliminate the bottom 4?
I feel pretty confident Queer Eye won't sink that low. I did send PixieRouge a copy in an email though.

My "Out of the Frying Pan" scene I guess was deemed unable to compete, it hasn't recieved any ratings in days, oh well, it was fun to read people's comments when they were still making them, and I would probably guess it was a lot more fun for me to write than for others to read.

Vlad- The top one hundred scenes are listed to the left of the script so far page; since there's 104 scenes this round, the bottom four won't make the cut. But I am sure that "Queer Eye" will be in the top hundred! With all the hits its getting, it may even be in the top ten!

Neither does the player ranking box. All the info is in a heap at the bottom of the box. I am using a pretty old version of exploder and I think that's the reason...
so last round all the scenes were listed because there weren't quite 100. I get it.
