Default The tragedy in South Asia

This has globally shocked millions, billions, the news that so far, 59,000 people have died and hundreds of thousands more people are lost as a result of the devastating South Asian tsunamis.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to all who've lost friends & family, all who are out there giving relief, all who are lost or dead and all the people still out there, caught or trapped because of the disaster.

In this thread, you can share your thoughts, prayers & wishes for those who you know to be Asia at this time, or just for the safety of all who live there.

The following are charitable organisations which are raising funds for the relief of those caught out by the tsunami. Please, if you, donate a little, as every bit helps. As we speak, the UN are sending out relief to 4/5 of the worst affected countries but every penny/cent given, counts.

If you know of any other organisations, please give them a mention too.

The Penang Office of Human Development is asking for volunteer help
Oxfam (UK) -- please use the 'gift aid' facility otherwise your donation will have tax taken off it (appalling I know, but it happens.)
Oxfam (America)
British Red Cross
American Red Cross
International Red Cross
International Rescue Corps Give.org
Doctors without Borders
American Friends Service Commitee Care Mercy Corps

We also hope & pray that Kurisuchiina (Christina), a former Admin at SnitchSeeker, who is on holiday in Sri Lanka at the moment, stays safe and gets home safely.

Thanks to The Leaky Cauldron for the links.

Marcella_Riddle, I think what you said is definitely food for thought. I think a person who wants to give their meager life savings to tsunami relief is just as helpful as a celebrity. In some cases I've read, it's the actions that people contribute that make their non-monetary contributions so valuable. I read one story where a couple had bought like alot of tickets for people who were trying to leave the country/area. Another man in the newspaper I saw had taken in like over 200 people into his home. Then there was the little article about Prince Harry and Prince William who were so overcome they donated their time to packaging some of the boxes that were going to be shipped out. So yeah, the money helps, but sometimes those non-monetary actions do go a long way, too.
