| | | The recycled 'Half-Blood Prince'
It was previously announced that both Raincoast (Canada) and Bloomsbury (UK) would use recycled paper to print ' Half-Blood Prince'. However, Scholastic (US) did not participate in the 'green bid'. The New York Times says that some fans are being persuaded to buy the book from Canada rather than the US. Quote:
"If we get Harry Potter and the Bible, that pretty much covers the best sellers," said Nicole Rycroft, campaigns director of Markets Initiative, a conservation group in Vancouver, British Columbia, that is focused on the publishing industry.
Scholastic has failed to really meaningfully step forward to have Harry printed on the most environmentally friendly paper that it can be," Ms. Rycroft said.
Quote:
"I think the fans who know Scholastic and the people who buy from Scholastic understand that we are an environmentally concerned company and we don't endanger forests ever with the paper we use," Ms. Good, a spokeswoman for Scholastic, said.

Well, that's what I'm going to do! Go to Canada for a midnight party so that my book is made on recycled paper!
LOL Sorry, bit of sarcasm. Just seems crazy to ask people to get their book from another country because a company didn't do what you asked. I mean, the next time they reprint the Bible, are they going to beg people not to buy one until it's printed on recycled paper?

I'm getting the version I pre-ordered from Walmart, and that's that. The whole recycled paper thing... It's a good thing, but I'm not going to Canada to have it.

It's too bad about the paper, but I'm still getting my book. I'm not downplaying recycling, but I want my HBP, and on time too! (I do not feel like driving to Canada on the release date - sorry guys.)

I don't really think it matters, unless it makes a big difference in saving trees. |

Probably won't happen, like asking people to stop using cars to stop polluting the ozone. Hey, we can dream, can't we? Still great that some places are using recycled paper. Shows that some people care. I guess it's better for some people to use recycled paper than to have no people use it at all.

| I'm definitely still getting mine here, but it would be nice if they had used recycled paper. Companies need to understand the importance of recycling and asking their customers to recycle too. I mean how many people actually recycle their old cell phones, computers, etc. It would be great if they learned to start doing that. Sorry I'm very big on recycling.

Why couldn't the U.S do the same thing? I wouldn't mind saving some trees.

| I'm getting it from Canada, cause of living here an all Say I lived in the States, I would come here just to get recycled paper, unless I was SUPER close to the border, then maybe I would, but I doubt it, I would want all the same versions of the books. I am happy that the books here are being printed on recycled paper tho.

Same here. at walmart you can get a reserved copy and the book costs 17 dollars as opposed to the 23 i might pay at a bookstore. arent the other books printed on recycled paper? ya good idea to get on recycled paper, but i live a long way away from Canada and i live ten minutes (including lights and stop signs) from wal-mart.

Canada's British Columbia like what, double/triple times the amount of travel to Los Angeles from San Francisco (by car). And besides, I've already preordered it at my local Borders. Until next time, perhaps.

I already pre ordered from Amazon.com and thats that. I'm all for the recycled paper thing, but UK and Canada will sell plenty like that, and we can hope that Scholastic will do it next book.

for anyone who is interested if you go to http://www.chapters.ca it is a canadian bookstore chain and they sell the copies that are made by raincoast books. Although most people have already pre ordered it's just a bit helpful for anyone who wants to do the recycled paper book.
Raincoast is a great company when I was working in a framing store a few years back they brought in two HUGE harry potter quilts that looked identical to the Goblet Of Fire cover and the Order Of The Phoenix cover and measured at least 7 feet high by five feet wide. They were awesome.

Recycling paper is important so we don't destroy all the trees, but I don't think i'd go across the Canada for my book, and trust me I live like *right* there. Only about an hours drive, if that. I would get the book on recycled paper if they did do that here, but yeah.
