| | | The Pope outsells Potter in Poland
The late pope John Paul's last book ('Conversations at the Dawn of a Millennium') has become the all-time bestseller in his native Poland, eclipsing the previous record-holder ' Order of the Phoenix', according to Entertainment Canada.
"The initial print run of 600,000 copies of the pope's fifth and final book, 'Memory and Identity' has sold out and publisher Znak said it has an order for another 500,000 copies.
Even just counting initial copies sold, the pope's book has beaten out the fifth instalment of the popular Harry Potter series, which has sold 460,000 copies. Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code is in third place with 450,000 copies sold."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Jenna Reetz | Nope, not that surprising. Yes Pope John Paul was from Poland (the only pope that was from poland.) And since he died, more people will want to buy his books. And besides, maybe Poland isn't into Harry Potter as much as other countries. But if I'm wrong, please don't yell at me! I am only thinking! And almost everyone loves the old pope, and not everyone loves Harry Potter**. **Jenna is having a very hard time saying that.

if it was anything else defeating the record of "my" (ok, I WISH they were mine) beloved books, I'd be angry. But I'm not. It's the Pope's book, and I'm just glad HP beat the Da Vinci Code.

^ Agreeing with ya! MUCH better then the Da Vinci Code. Anyway, I know they are strictly referring to books sold, but comparing HP and the Pope seems like apples and oranges! i.e. Who's gonna complain about being beat by the Pope of all people?

Good for the pope, he was a great man. But like most books fiction usually wins out over non fiction.

I agree with Lissydove, one is fiction and the other is a biography or something on the lines of that. You can't compare them, but i'm glad HP beat the Da Vinci code

It's not the texts that are being compared; it's the sales.

Only joking .
Not everyone (even almost ) in Poland is all about the pope (although he was a great man, no doubt about that). And even though I know Poland is considered a Catholic country, not everyone here is a member of the Catholic Church either . Harry Potter is very popular here also and all my non-English speaking friends are very sad about the translation taking so long every time (with the sixth book it's going to be about a few months at least, last time it was more than half an year). We sure love J.K. Rowling as much as you do !

All of them were translated into almost every language in the world .

Owczarnia, that is most informing. Thanks. I am not suprised that the late Pope's book has topped the number one seller list. If there was to be a book that was going to do that, then this was the one and I just like the rest am every so happy that HP beat the Da Vinci Code, though that was an interesting read, to say the least.

| I'm happy for the Pope. He was a great man and I haven't read anything he wrote yet but I'm sure it was great because he was very interested in literature and stuff.

Same here. HPB will most probably outsell the Pope's book ones it realeases. Quote:

i guess because he just passes away he is really being acknowledged by the everyone now and because people keep saying that he was a great man and spiritual leader (which he was!) people might want to read his books and all. But when Harry Potter comes out, the rage will start again . it always happens... i think...
